THE INVITATION

232 Words
As I stepped off the plane in Singapore, the humid air enveloped me, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. I had been dating Nick, my boyfriend of three years, and he had invited me to meet his family in Singapore. Little did I know, Nick's family was one of the wealthiest and most influential in Asia. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. As we drove to Nick's family estate, I couldn't help but stare at the breathtaking views of the city. The sleek skyscrapers and bustling streets were a far cry from my humble upbringing in New York. When we arrived at the estate, I was taken aback by its sheer grandeur. The sprawling mansion was surrounded by lush gardens and a private pool that sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight. Nick's mother, Eleanor, greeted us warmly, but I could sense a hint of disapproval behind her polished smile. She was a woman who valued tradition and expected nothing but the best from her family. "Dinner will be served at 8 pm," Eleanor announced, her voice dripping with elegance. "Please make sure to dress accordingly." I felt a surge of anxiety as I realized I had no idea what to wear. Nick, sensing my unease, took my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "Don't worry, Rachel," he whispered. "You'll be perfect."
