CHAPTER 004
Amélie’s Point of View
“Vile, hateful trash! I’ll rip her apart!”
The furious voice of Astrid snarled inside my head, which made maintaining my calm even more difficult. The scene before me made my heart pound painfully against my chest.
Mattias didn’t believe me.
He doesn’t love me.
He never loved me.
I watched Élise, who remained in his protective arms. She held onto him tightly while sobbing as if I had done something terrible. She was his now.
And he was hers.
“Treacherous scum! She’s disgusting!” Astrid kept attacking me with words, but I suppressed her voice while forcing my despair into a hidden mental space. I had to hold it together.
I would withstand this situation because of my baby.
My arms formed a protective circle around my stomach while Élise sobbed dramatically against Mattias. The room had become stifling because of intense tension throughout.
I followed your instructions exactly, but maintaining my calm voice required all my strength. “ I guided her through the various areas of the packhouse. I have no power over what people might have said regarding your decision for Luna.
The intensity of Élise’s crying increased until it interrupted my words.
Mattias lifted his hand to demonstrate his clear command. “Enough.”
She stopped crying instantly but continued to stroke his arm with exaggerated care while her head rested against his chest. She exposed her neck to him through a practiced submissive act, which caused my stomach to twist uncomfortably.
He let out a sigh while he massaged his face with his hand. With time, the pack will recognize what I recognize because Élise demonstrates kindness alongside her gentle nature and passion as a protective she-wolf. Luna would not find an ideal leader beyond Élise.
A victorious smile caused Élise’s mouth to curl. The fluorescent lights made her teeth shine while I squeezed my hands together to prevent myself from speaking words I would later regret.
“Amélie,” Mattias addressed her with a polished yet sudden tone change. Your professionalism has remained your strongest quality since my father's time. Have you lost track of his deep care for you? How did he mentor you?”
When Mattias mentioned King Maximilian Jupiter, my late father, I felt a sharp pang in my chest. Only that man showed faith in me when everyone else refused to. He advanced my position to Beta despite objections about my low birth status.
His acts of kindness remained etched in my memory permanently.
Mattias’s voice pulled me back. I hope your… personal feelings… haven’t influenced your objectivity in this matter.
I blinked at him, stunned.
Élise suddenly screamed that she was attempting to regain your affection! She wants me out so she can take my position!
Her hysterical behavior irritated me, but Mattias remained unaffected. He gave a small nod, which showed he believed her words mattered.
My heart pounded. He permitted her to fabricate lies that contradicted everything I had devoted my life to creating..
I dedicated three years of my life to this pack, and as I said this, my voice trembled with barely controlled anger. “How could you even think—”
“Apologize,” Mattias cut in. The force of his command struck me with physical intensity.
I froze, my mind racing. He couldn’t mean that.
Your abusive behavior toward Élise requires an apology. When you disrespect my Luna, you show disrespect to the entire pack. He spoke with a cold tone while choosing his words carefully.
His Luna.
Élise moved toward me before I could speak while her fake tears continued to flow.
“You’ll never find happiness unless you become Luna in person!” Élise wailed. She confessed to me that she desires the status above all else and would take any action to obtain it.
Mattias stiffened, his expression darkening. This situation revolves around status. Status? Money wasn’t enough for you?”
His words stabbed my soul with surpassing precision. I wrapped my arms around myself tightly as if that action could protect me from the incoming attack.
He didn’t know.
He remained unaware of the developing life within me, which belonged to him.
I tried to speak to him, but my throat tightened and the words wouldn't escape.
Mattias spoke with a cold and low voice as he confessed his shame about calling someone his Fate Mate.
The room seemed to tilt.
Élise screamed, "Fate Mate?" while turning to face him.
Her response conveyed everything. He hadn’t told her.
Everything weighed down on me until I lost my ability to speak. Astrid fiercely roared through my thoughts while showing intense chaotic energy, yet I restrained her power.
Élise moved away from his embrace while her tears fell in heavy, dramatic drops. “I didn’t know… You never told me about your connection to her. I can’t believe this…”
The room echoed with her increasingly dramatic sobs. “I’ll leave,” she whimpered. I will return to Pack SanguineLune to inform my brother about the way they treated his only sister here. I’ll be fine… I’m sure I’ll be fine…”
Her voice faded away as she began another bout of pitiful crying.
Mattias remained motionless while his eyes shifted back and forth between us. The unbearable tension stretched out endlessly while seconds turned into hours.
His shoulders straightened while his jaw clenched with determination.
He faced me completely before speaking my name, "Amélie Jakob." “I reject our Fate Mate bond. Now and forever.”
His declaration slammed into me like a physical assault, leaving me speechless..
A sharp and overwhelming pain spread throughout my entire body. The pain appeared inside my chest then radiated outward until it controlled my entire body.
This wasn’t just a severance. The bond broke apart with brutal force, which destroyed something holy.
My knees gave way beneath me as I fell to the ground while holding my stomach. I whispered, "Please," with a voice that barely carried. “Wait. I need to…”
I needed to tell him.
About the baby.
But the pain was too much.
“Accept the rejection,” Mattias ordered with a voice that sounded like stone. The consequences will follow if you choose not to accept.
The fire inside my chest surged upward to burn my throat while my vision blurred and I choked.
My mind was full of the painful wails from Astrid, although I was powerless to calm her down.
“Accept!” Mattias barked.
“I…” My voice broke, barely audible. “I accept.”
The connection broke, and its finality pierced me like a jagged blade..
Mattias released a sharp breath, which showed his relief. He brought his hands together in a clap while dismissing the moment as though he had finished a basic task.
“Good. Now we can return to normal. You will continue your role as Beta after you pledge your allegiance to Pack SombreLowLand and its Alpha family.
I pushed myself up from the ground while each movement caused intense pain.
“Please,” I croaked. “Just let me leave the pack.”
He froze, his brows furrowing. “Leave?”
Élise’s smirk spread slowly, her delight evident.
Why was she smiling? What would he say? Would he even let me go?
My hands tightened into fists as I prepared myself for what he would say.
