"GRANDMA!"

1033 Words
I don't know what woke me up, maybe it was the sunlight peeping from the window or the feeling that something was wrong. It wasn't any of the options. I needed to pee real bad. I lazily stood up from the bed and winced from the pain I felt in my neck. I must have slept in a very weird position, judging from the fact that my whole hand was also stiff. I opened the door and dragged my feet towards the bathroom but on passing my bedroom, my feet drew to a halt. Memories from last night came rushing back and I started to feel like crap once again. Breathe in and out. You're to act like nothing happened. Just say hi and go back to being at each other's throats. I opened the door but the room was empty, "That's weird, where did he go?" I walked towards my wardrobe and opened it expecting to see him hiding in there but he wasn't. I turned around also expecting to see him behind the door but no one was there. "This is what I get for trying to make things normal--oh", I ran to the toilet to finish my business, a task once forgotten. I didn't have to go to work until 12pm because of my afternoon shift so I decided to help my grandma make breakfast. Seeing that she isn't out of her room yet even prompted me to do so. She also had a doctor's appointment by 11am so I was going to drop her off and head to work. "What to make?" I whispered to myself as I paced around the kitchen while thinking of what would be quick and easy for me to do. We were running out of foodstuffs and I made a mental note to go shopping later so I settled for one thing. "Toasts would suffice." I was in the middle of cracking the eggs when my phone rang, interrupting my moment of showing my amazing dance steps to my invisible audience. "This must be damn important if you're calling me by 9am." I growled, making Junior laugh. "Was just checking if any of you guys are alive. Is Grey dead?" "I wish." "So you guys lasted the night without killing each other. Nice" If only he knew what we were actually doing. "I wouldn't say throughout the night. He wasn't here when I woke up. Didn't even let me know he was going to leave." I placed the bread into the toasting machine. "Damn. Rude." "I know right. I get why he would have left though. I'm pretty sure he had this paranoia that I was going to cut off his balls while he's asleep." Junior laughed again and I ended up chuckling along with him. "Is that Dee? Hi Dee!" I laughed. Andrew can be such a drama queen at times. He even sounded like a female right now. "Yes Drew. How can I help your stupid ass?" "Are you coming to the party? Don't worry, it starts 9pm. Enough time for you to rest and change after work." "Sounds good. Just text me the details." I positioned the phone so my shoulder could hold it against my cheek. Lifting the tray with my grandma's share, I walked to her room. "What are you doing now?" "About to serve my grandmother..." I dropped the tray on her bedside table. She was still asleep so I decided to wake her, "She needs to take her medicine anyways." Her skin felt cold, "Grandma. It's time to eat and take your medicine." No response. "Grandma, wake up. We still have to meet up with your appointment. Won't you stand up? For me?" No response. At this point, I panicked. I placed my hand against her chest and I didn't feel her heart beat. Well. It could be playing tricks with me. Sometimes I don't feel my heart beat too. I placed a finger under her nose. I didn't feel anything. I tapped her cheek. She didn't respond. "Grandma, don't do this to me. It's too early to be playing with me. Answer me!" I screamed. "Dee! Dee! What's going on?" "Grandma! Grandma! Don't leave me. Please wake up. Please. PLEASE!" I kept on yelling as tears flowed freely down my cheek as I shook her body just to get any response. ANDREW'S POV The moment I heard Deola's screams, I knew something had gone horribly wrong. Junior had left me to go chat with the club manager about the bookings. She kept on screaming about her grandmother. God, don't let it be what I'm thinking. I stood up and quickly walked into the manager's office, "Junior. Something's wrong at Dee's." I didn't have to talk twice before he excused himself and grabbed his keys. We rushed out of the club we were at and jumped into his car. "Call Grey." He said, focusing on the road while I nodded and unlocked my phone. After I found his number, I dialed it. "Sorry, the number you're trying to reach is switched off. Please try- " "Damn. It's switched off." Luckily, we got to her house on time as the club isn't that far away. Immediately Junior parked, I was out of the car like the seat was on fire. I ran into the house and I could hear her screams come from down the hallway. I followed them until I got to the room and I saw her gripping her grandmother's shirt like her life depends on it. "Dee!" She turned to me and shook her head, "She's still alive right? She is, I know she is." She kept sniffling and rubbing her nose. I walked up to her and grabbed her hands, releasing her grip on her grandmother's shirt, "Dee.. " "Don't f*****g lie to me! She's fine. She's just playing with me, right Junior?" I turned to see Junior standing by the door and taking everything in. His mouth hung open like he was looking for words to say and his eyes were sorrowful. "She's dead Deola," I whispered as she clung unto me, "She's dead." Then she went limp in my arms.
