CHAPTER 41
ALICE SMILED AS she zipped up her skirt. She’d managed to lose exactly seven stones in a year, and she felt like a new person. Her long auburn hair shone with health, and her skin was clear and radiant. She twirled a little pirouette in front of the mirror as her daughter clapped and cheered. With their new diet regime Lucy had also lost several pounds, and was no longer being teased at school about her weight.
“Come on, we’re going round to see Auntie Roz.”
“Yeah! Jimmy’s got a new bike. He’s going to let me have a go on it.”
Alice could hear raised voices inside as she rang the doorbell. Roz took longer than usual to answer, and as soon as Alice saw her she knew what had happened. Alice noticed Mark giving her a wink as he passed her on his way out of the front door
