"Today is a good day to be a great day." - Germany Kent I'm starting my new job as the head designer at an architectural company that works to build and design homes, work places and more for supernatural beings, but now they are incorporating humans into their list of clients, which means hiring humans, and I am one of those lucky humans that got hired. I'm very grateful and excited about being one of the first humans hired and for a high position no less. I parked my car, got out, locked it (very important folks, always double check), took the elevator and pressed the button to the 12th floor, which was the design department. Once I got out, I headed to the office door and saw two people there: one was a pretty and seemingly cheery brunette by how she was talking with her colleague. Although it looked like she was doing all the talking, he didn't seem bothered by it though. When I got closer, I noticed how his skin had a slight glow to it. When he noticed my presence he turned to greet me and I saw that his eyes were a very light shade of pink, it matched his strawberry-blond hair. He smiled warmly at me. "You must be our new head of design". "I'm Kiran Dawn, the Senior Manager of Everlasting Architectures". He extended his hand and I smiled "I am, my name is Mauve Hue, nice to meet you". I said, shaking his hand. I turned to the brunette to shake her hand and she gave me a bright smile. "Hello, I'm Beatriz Cruz, I'll be your personal assistant. But please call me Bea, I'm very excited to work with you, your name is also a play of words like Kirian's right?". I looked at her a little confused about that "My family has a tradition of naming their kids after colors because of our last name, but what do you mean by Kiran's name?" She turned to mr. Dawn a little panicked "I'm sorry Kiran, I shouldn't have". He looked at her with a smile "Don't worry, she can know". He turned to me with a smile "I'm a light fae, my name means beam of light and my last name means the first appearance of light in the sky". He chuckled a little. "So we are the same but different" I said smiling. His smile got bigger and his skin glowed a little brighter. "Kiran, you are glowing," Beatriz giggled as Kiran blushed "Oh, I'm human miss Hue". "Oh, are you a recent hire then?" "Yes, I've been working here for about 3 weeks but you should know that Kiran and I are mates". They smiled and looked at each other with so much love that it made my heart warm. "Well, I figured something was going on, but I didn't think it would be a mate-bond, I'm happy for you." They smiled and Kiran glowed a little. Maybe he glows when he is happy. That is really sweet. "We will guide you to your office boss." We entered the office and mr. Dawn spoke "Everybody this is mrs. Hue, your new head of design." at that all the workers stood up. Most of them seem like some sort of supernatural, but I don't want to guess which kind. I'll know only if they want to tell me. What they are does not matter, what matters is who they are as a person and the quality of their work. "Mrs. Hue? Would you like to say a few words?" I nodded and motioned for them to sit down. "Thank you for the welcome. I noticed that most of you are supernatural. I'm not going to pry or anything like that. I still have a lot to learn about working in a mixed environment, but I'm in the process and more than willing to take advice or suggestions. My goal is to have a healthy workplace, for humans and supernaturals alike. My door is always open, but on the off chance it's closed, please knock." I smiled "We are here to work, create beautiful spaces that meet the clients' wants and needs but also help each other, now let's resume work, I'll go into the office to start settling in and catch up with the work that we have." With that, everybody resumed their work and I was led to my office by mr. Dawn and Beatriz. "This will be your office, mrs. Hue. If it's not to your liking, please let us know and we will change it to your style." "Don't worry mr. Dawn," I chuckled "I'll be the one changing it." "It's not an inconvenience, mrs. Hue and please call me Kiran." Beatriz nodded "Me too, please call me Bea, Beatriz makes me feel like I'm in trouble." I chuckled "Okay, okay Kiran and Bea it is" she smiled at that "But it really is no problem for me to change the style, I already have the furniture, I just need to bring it here." They nodded but I saw Bea was a little hesitant, "Okay, if you are still set on helping, then I'll just need help organizing and rearranging the furniture." They nodded and Bea spoke "Just let me know when you'll want it to happen and I will make the arrangements." "Will do," I nodded "Now, let's start with the catch-up." With that the two of them started explaining the office dynamics, how each department works independently and together, they showed me how the computer system worked and the future projects that we would be working on and before we knew it 4 hours had passed and it was already lunchtime. "Oh wow, it's already 1 pm," I said looking at my watch "how about lunch break? We'll resume what's left later." "Yes, boss" Bea said leaving with Kiran for lunch. I looked at the office and saw all the cubicles empty. I should probably go to the cafeteria and after work I'll see what good restaurants are available, if they take orders, make deliveries and how their reservation system is. Just when I was about to get out of my office I saw Bea walking my way. "Did you forget something Bea?" "No, Kiran just got a call from the CEO's assistant, he said our CEO wants to have lunch with you." Huh? "Okay, I'll go to his office" Bea nodded and signaled me to follow her "Bea, is that a common occurrence?" She pondered a little "Yes and no, he sometimes has lunch with higher executives or the heads of departments, but later on, not when they have just started, or at least that's what Kiran's saying." "Saying?" "Oh yes, due to the mate bond our minds are also linked." "Even though you are human?" She nodded. "Apparently, it doesn't matter if you are different species, as long as you are fated mates or your bond is strong enough, see?" She showed me her neck and there was a beautiful little sun "When you are fated mates a symbolic figure appears once you mark each other, if you are chosen then it looks like a small scar." "Oh wow, I don't have a mark but this counts, right?" I showed her my wedding ring chuckling a little. "Oh, yeah! That definitely counts." "Mr. Ardere is waiting for you in his office, 20th floor, good luck." Kiran gave me an encouraging smile. I smiled and took the elevator. Why does he want to have lunch with me? Is it to welcome me?
