Chapter1
The Secret Daughter Reveal
*****************
The scent of antiseptic hung heavily in the air, a reality that contrasts with the fading warmth of her mother's hand. Sophia held onto her hand, the skin thin and fragile, her own heart pounding heavily. Her mother, Ava Sophia, had been slipping away for days, the cancer a relentless tide pulling her own. "It was so painful to watch your own mother, who was your only companion, drifting away in pain and agony with slim hope of living again. "Mom, please, Sophia whispered, her voice thick with tears shed. "Don't leave me." Ava's eyes, once bright and full of life, were now clouded with distant weariness; a faint smile flickered across her lips. " My sweet girl, she rasped, her voice barely a whisper. "There's.... there's something you need to know." Sophia leaned closer, her breath catching in her throat. Anything, Mom. Tell me.” Your father.... he's alive.
The words hit Sophia like a physical blow. Her world tilted, the reality she'd known for her entire life shattering into fragments. Alive? But.... you said he died in an accident."
Ava's gaze drifted to a faded photograph on the bedside table. I lied, Sophia, I was young, scared. I thought I was protecting you. Protecting me from what?" Sophia's voice was barely a whisper.
Jack .. Jack Reynold. " Ava's voice was weak, but the name was strong. Sophia stared at her mother, confusion and a drawing of horror warring within her mind.
A name she'd seen on the news broadcasts on campaign posters. Jack Reynold, the billionaire, is the presidential hopeful. Before Sophia could understand the implications and digest her thoughts, even as tears and anxiety filled her heart with the pain of her mother on the sick bed with the breaking news. She was completely at a breaking point. Before Sophia could process the implications, Ava's breath hitched; her eyes closed. Life drained from her face, leaving behind a profound silence. Sophia's cries were swallowed by the sterile hum of the hospital machines.

Helen's Decision (Helen was Sophia's late mum's closest friend)
Days blurred into a haze of grief. Sophia moved through the motions of the funeral, numb and disoriented. Her mother's best friend, Helen Elizabeth, watched her with a mixture of sorrow and fierce determination.
"Sophia," Helen said, her voice firm, "We can't let this go." You deserve to know the truth."
Sophia looked at her, her eyes red and swollen. "What truth? That my mother lied to me my entire life?"
"That you have a father, and he's Jack Reynold." Helen pulled a crumpled piece of paper from her purse. "I've written a letter."
Sophia stared at the letter, her heart pounding. "What did you write?"
"Everything. About Ava, about you. "About how he needs to know he has a daughter." Helen’s expression was determined. “I know that this is a lot, but you deserve to know, and he deserves to know.”
"Helen, this is insane. He's a billionaire running for the presidential seat. "He's not going to care." Sophia was incredulous.
"We don't know that. "And we won't know unless we try." Helen sealed the letter in an envelope. "I'm sending this, Sophia." For you."
A growing sense of dread crept through her body, and Sophia, at Helen's odd statement, could only nod; Helen walked out the door, leaving Sophia alone with the weight of her mother's secret and the uncertain future that lay ahead.
Sophia, while she lay down on the couch to rest a bit after spending the whole night moaning about the loss of her mother, tears drenched the whole place. While she had to lose her own companion, the only one she shared her life with? Why would her mother wait till the last moment before unveiling the secret about her father? Didn't she teach me that nothing good comes out of lies? The pain lingers on the question and seems to keep coming without anyone close enough to give her a response.

Sterling Brooks loosened his tie as he climbed the wide staircase, followed by the thick Persian runner. He didn't know what to expect when he walked into his stepfather's study room. Earlier that afternoon, his mother called, insisting he come into the family estate in the Hilton as soon as possible and talk some sense into her husband. Something she'd never asked him to do before.
Sterling wonders in his thoughts all day. What could have made her mother call him to speak to his stepdad? Maybe it is all about the family business or somehow issues with his mother and stepdad.
Both her mother and stepfather, Jack Reynold, sat in Jack’s study room. Sterling, whatever made this meeting be held here must be some sort of important issue to discuss, while not discussing in the central setting room? Maybe I'm just overthinking everything.
After placing a kiss on his mother's cheek, he moved to the leather wing-backed chair across from the matching leather sofa.
His mother didn't waste any time getting to the point. I'm glad you're here. Maybe you can get Jack to see the reason. "He won't listen to me,’ Elizabeth Reynolds said uncharacteristically, wringing her perfectly manicured hands. She was normally a cool and collected woman. For something to get too riled, it had to be serious.
Sterling focused on the man, who was like a father to him. Jack Reynolds had treated him like his own son from the moment he married Sterling’s mother after his parents divorced when he was 10 years old. And if he'd ever had any doubts about how his stepfather felt about how they’d disappeared, when Reynolds handed the reins of Jack Reynolds' Enterprise over to him when he had decided to enter politics. Jack Reynolds Enterprise controlled the multi-million-dollar real estate company, one of the best real estate chains in the world.
“ Will any of you tell me what is going on? Sterling asked anxiously. Jack Reynolds remains silent as to why his face is fixed on the ground.
"I received this letter yesterday. “ Mr Jack handed Sterling a pale pink envelope. It's a letter from a woman I knew a long time ago.
His mother seemed to be bothered, was she? Everyone knew Senator Jack Reynolds loved his wife. There was one of the true love marriages in Los Angeles.
“She claims that her daughter is Jack's child," Elizabeth added when her step-husband didn't continue.
