CHAPTER5

Day of judgement. "You're choking me. I know nothing about his kidnap. I was passing by his school and saw two men come to pick him up. That's it! I swear. You gotta believe me. Fortunately, I took a photo of their vehicle's plate number should anything happen. Passing by the school this morning, I heard some students discussing their abduction.” Struggling to speak, Gyle explained. At that moment, Jane was on the verge of shifting forms and devouring his skin with her leopard claws before he hurriedly explained. “Why should I believe you?” Still gripping his shirt, she doubted him. Her eyes were gradually turning red and scary like a beast. “I came with the photo evidence. If you could let go of me, I'll show you,” “Have you told anyone this aside from me?” "Of course not. You're the first person I'm telling. I know how dangerous it is to trust people with this sensitive information. I'm not stupid to disclose to anyone.” "Good! So where's the evidence you brought?” Jane demanded. "Here we go. What do we do with it?” He showed her a photo from his phone. “We need to track the plate number. It might lead us to the abductors.” Suggested, Jane. "You're right. I've got a friend who might help us. He's trustworthy,” Gyle assured. "How long will it take?” Giving an inpatient look, Jane asked. “24hrs I guess. I will show up at your place tomorrow to give an update,” “24hr? Ah! Isn't that too much?” She screamed. "No, it isn't. I'll try my best to get it done before then," “That works. I'll wait. My son is worth it. I just hope the plate number will aid in getting my son back.” She said hopefully. “Yeah, I hope so too,” Gyle sighed as Jane saw him off. ************** The night was fast approaching as the dark clouds gradually encircled the earth's surface. “Oh, my Fabian. Come back to Mama. I miss you!” Holding his passport photograph, Jane fought back tears. She's lonely, yet feels Fabian's presence hovering around her. She wished he'd just walked home and dived straight into her arms, saying, “Mom, it was all a prank. I wasn't abducted.” After weeping for so long, she developed a swollen eye. But somehow, she was confident that Gyle would show up with positivity. Amidst her troubled soul, she forced herself to sleep. ************* It's a new Dawn. The day Jane has been yearning to hear from Gyle. “Oh, my son! He'll be late for school.” She screamed and rushed to Fabian's room to get him dressed for school. It took her a few minutes to realize he hadn't been rescued yet. She sobbed as tiny particles of tears strolled down her cheeks. She returned to her room to see a notification popping from her phone's screen. She grabbed the phone, looked at the text, and behold, it was her Boss Andros. “If you don't show up at the office this morning, kiss your job goodbye,” "How do I explain to him my son was kidn*pped from school?” Jane muttered and sighed. She tried reaching out over the phone, but he wasn't responding or returning the calls. He was upset at her for skipping work the previous day without any notice. Now she's faced with a dilemma of going to work or waiting for Gyle to show up with evidence that would help in finding her son. Jane wished she exchanged phone contact with him. “What if he shows up, and I'm not home? This job is my only source of raising funds for the ransom. I can't quit now,” with great determination, she had a quick bath and got dressed for work amidst the anxiety scrubbing her face. She was pretty sure of the backlash that awaited her in the office. Andros is most likely to strike her with a suspension. Pulling up to the parking lot, She remained glued to her car seat, gasping and unable to step out as many thoughts invaded her mind. “What if I get dismissed? What if he withholds my salary for this month? Now I have to start begging the same person I detest.” Placing her head on her car steering, Jane was exhausted. She hasn't gone in yet, but she already sees the challenges that await her. Finally, she eradicated her anxiety and motioned inside the institution. “Hey, girl. Why didn't you show up yesterday!” Her colleague asked in excitement as she welcomed Jane. "I'd tell you about it once I settle in. Is Mr. Andros in?” She asked in a weak voice. "Of course, he is in. I could go tell him you're here.” “No, I'll do that myself. Thank you.” She refused, bracing up for the worst to happen as she entered his office. Immediately, she went on both knees, explaining her reason for skipping work the previous day. Focusing on his computer, Andros replied. “Go home! You've got 4 weeks to sort yourself. You'd still get paid. Good luck finding your son,” She remained on both knees, to be certain she heard him correctly. "I don't wanna repeat myself. Now leave my office. Report to duty 4 weeks from now.” Andros reaffirmed, with a loud voice, discarding Jane. “Thank you so much. This means a lot to me,” Jane quickly stood up to leave before he could change his mind. Andros isn't always that nice, but when it does, he makes the best decision. Fortunately, Jane was opportune to be at the right place. Despite refusing his relationship advances, Andros was fair in his decision-making. He overlooked the rejection he got from her. A blessing in disguise for Jane, who never wanted to be at work. She saw this as a perfect opportunity to quickly rush home to receive Gyle when he shows up with the evidence. Hurriedly, she drove home, and to her surprise, he was already outside awaiting her presence. "Never thought you'd show up this early,” she teased Gyle, who maintained a straight face as though something was wrong. "What's wrong? Were you able to track the plate number? "I'm afraid, no. Wasn't. I guess they deactivated the plate number immediately after their operation. Those nuisances won't get away with this,” Gyle was so infuriated at himself for failing Jane. Just when he thought his heroics were already manifesting, he never knew the abductors had other plans. “So what do we do now? We can't fold our arms and let those kidnappers get away with this. They must be brought to book,” "Then we sought help from Dave. He's the only option I've got now” Jane answered succinctly. "Alpha Dave? Who's he? Are you sure he can rescue your son? Do you need a tag alone? I wanna help find your son,” Gyle asked, curious to know who Dave was and why Jane had so much confidence in him. Barely 48 hours after meeting Jane, Gyle has proved to be a better mate and confidant. “Please give me a second. I need to go call Catherine, the woman living next door. She'll take us to see the Alpha,” Jane replied as she gestured to Catherine's apartment. Finally, she swallowed her ego to allow Dave to help find Fabian. She couldn't deny the fact that Dave was deemed fit for the job, but her hate for him shut her eyes to see the truth.
