CHAPTER1
Alpha Dave's phone vibrated as he received a text from his mate, Jane, requesting for them to meet in the woods. He was puzzled, yet curious to know why she would wanna see him this early. Narrowing his gaze at the wall clock hanging on his wall, Dave could confirm it was just 7:25 a.m. “What's she up to? She could have called or come over to my place. Now I have to forfeit the pack meeting just to see her. This is inappropriate! I just hope it's worth it,” Dave groaned. He tossed off the bed in frustration and hurriedly dashed for a quick bath. "It's Delano. Can I come in?” Dave's BETA stood in front of the doorstep, asking. "Sure, you can,” Dave replied from inside. He was already dressed up and ready for the impromptu meeting with his mate. Stunned to see Dave already dressed up to what seemed like he was stepping out, Delano was forced to ask. “My Alpha, the meeting at the pack is slated for 9:40 a.m. It's barely 8 a.m. and you're already dressed?” "I know that look on your face. Surprised, right? Jane just texted and requested my presence in the woods. I will be back shortly.” "And your father? He asked me to come fetch me. Remember, he wants to introduce you to other Alphas today. What should I tell him?” Delano prompted. "The introduction can wait until I get back. My mate is equally important as my Father. My Father would do just fine,” Dave rudely replied. "As you wish!” Delano conceded and bowed out. Dave quickly stepped outside and drove to Scottsdale Avenue where he parked a car by the roadside and sauntered to the woods searching for Jane, but no sign of her approaching Jane. He looked worried, curious, and scared about her safety as enormous questions plagued his mind. Suddenly, he smelled her scent from afar. That was when he knew she was nearby. He screamed. “Jane, where are you?” Yet, no one responded. His eyes widened and turned blue as anxiety hoarded his face. Now, he could tell she was in danger. He paraded the woods and sniffed the atmosphere to discern it and confirm if Jane was nearby, but it wasn't working. He repeatedly called her cell phone, but it wasn't reachable. This got him angry and prompted him to vacate the woods. But then, his instincts prompted him to halt a bit, which he did. And behold, he spots Jane approaching from a distance smiling and looking so radiant. With the smile hoarding Jane's face, it was evident that she was happy. “Why take forever to show up? You got me worried about you. For a second, I thought you were in danger. Learn to stick to appointments. I've got a meeting with my Father and other Alphas at the pack. Yet, I canceled it just to be with you,” Dave scolded Jane. "Take a chill pill. I apologize for making you go through the stress. I didn't intend to…" "Save it! I don't need your damn apology. Why are we here? Your text was worrisome. I needed to show up immediately after I received it,” Dave interrupted the apology. He was becoming too impatient and curious. Her apology meant nothing to him. “Okay. I know you are mad at me for keeping you waiting for so long. I mean, you've got every reason to be. But guess what? What I am about to say will blow your mind. Trust me,” Jane smiled and blushed. "Blow my mind? Tell me about it. You know I am horrible when it comes to guessing.” "I'm pregnant. Excited, right? I'm too. We'd be having our first child. This calls for celebration. I'm pretty sure your father would be so elated to hear this.” Jane unleashed the bombshell and jumped for Joy. She had always yearned for an opportunity to be glued to Dave for life, now she has got one. "You kidding right? This is nothing but a mad joke. Are you pulling another stunt on me?” Dave's mouth widened in a fly-catching position. He couldn't believe his ears. He thought it was a mere hallucination, but unfortunately, it was reality scrubbing his face in the mud. "Joke? Of course not. Why are you shocked? You should be happy about it. You've always wanted to start a family with me. You said it yourself. If you are still doubting, here's enough proof. I guess it's enough to arrest your conviction.” Jane slipped the pregnancy test result on his palm to back her claims. He glanced through, looked at her in the eyes, and shivered like a kid. He was glued and remained speechless. "Wow! This is more serious than I ever imagined. So what are you gonna do about it?” Finally, regaining himself, Dave stunned Jane with the provocative question. "Me? What about us? We need to start planning how to raise a family. Your father needs to know. It's about time you introduce me to your pack as Luna. Don't you think so?” "In your wildest dreams! You're never gonna become my Luna. Never! I mean, look at us. We aren't compatible. Making you the Luna of the blood moon Pack will be a slap on my face. You don't have what I need. I'll become the Alpha after my father's demise. I require someone better than this misfit standing in front of me. You've got the IQ of a toad. As for the bastard you're harboring in your castrated womb, I can swear it's not mine. Terminate the pregnancy! If you need money, I'll be so generous to assist you,” Dave proclaimed and denied the pregnancy outrightly. He was ready to defend himself as he claimed the pregnancy test result was forged. Jane did her best to make him see reasons, but he was obstinate. His decision still stands. Jane was traumatized, shocked, dumbfounded, and lost. At some point, she wished the ground would just open and swallow her. Life has suddenly become worthless, and she feels death is the remedy. First, she lost her parents in a cold-blooded assassination by some Male wolves while she struggled to escape. Just when she thought her relationship with Dave was gonna erase her horrible memories, it worsened it. “You're so despicable! How did I end up with you? You fooled me into thinking you ever loved me. In you, I thought I found my mate, which the moon goddess had destined for me. Now I know the moon goddess detests me. She watched helplessly while my parents were killed. And now you? To hell with you! Damn you, Dave,” Jane walked away amidst the ocean of tears dropping from her eyes. "She's finally gone. No way I was ready to accept that pregnancy. My Father would have me beheaded if he found out about this. It'll become the next Alpha. I should display the traits of good leadership, and getting married out of wedlock isn't one,” Dave said after her departure. Jane might be his mate, but he never loved her genuinely. He capitalized on her emotions when she lost her parents. He considers her a misfit to become the mother of his child, let alone the Luna of the pack. *************** A few months into the pregnancy Dave hasn't called or shown up to inquire about her pregnancy. He never bothered to find out if she kept the baby or died attempting to terminate it. Having a baby for the first time without assistance, Jane has a difficult moment surviving alone. Countless times she reached out to Dave over the phone, but he never responded. "I cursed the day I met him. Dave has successfully ruined my life. How do I survive this? I could have died by terminating the pregnancy. I made the best decision, keeping the pregnancy,” Jane muttered in agony and bemoaned. She wished they didn't cross each other's path. Her immune system and body were gradually developing into a woman, and the thought of raising a baby alone scared her. She knew the significance of having both parents when hers were still alive, and she was never gonna allow her child to suffer the pain of not growing up with a father. "I need to relocate to Texas and get him off my head. My child must not live in the same city with that son of a bitch.” Jane made the shocking decision. *************** The light of the new day peeked into Jane's room as she itched her blurry eyes and motioned to the window. “Texas is cool though. I would have moved when my parents passed away. It's never too late to get it right. I pray that the bastard doesn't find me. I'll be fine without him," she assured herself. The pregnancy seemed a lot heavier, restricting her movement to a far distance. Less than a month after she arrived in Texas, she gave birth to a boy whom she named after her father, Fabian.
