Ariadne Ember Crest was born an anomaly in a world that worships power — a werewolf without a wolf. Hidden from birth, separated from her brothers, and raised under another name, she spent her life learning how to survive in silence. But when tragedy forces her back to the Crescent Pack, her secret becomes harder to conceal.

Among wolves who call her weak, Ember burns quietly — until one night changes everything. A rogue attack. A black Lycan savior. A prophecy whispered in the dark. What begins as an a*******n reveals a truth she was never meant to uncover — that she is no ordinary wolf at all, but the Guardian, chosen by the Moon Goddess to restore balance between worlds.

Now hunted by the Hollowblood Alpha, an ancient force who calls her Queen and seeks to use her power to awaken chaos, Ember must confront a destiny written in blood. Witches rise, loyalties fracture, and love itself becomes a weapon when Alpha Reece, the Lycan who once saved her, returns to stand between duty and desire.

But as the darkness spreads, one truth remains:

The world does not fear Ember because she is wolfless.

It fears her because she is becoming what she was born to be.

The Reckonning
I had been back for a month. One month since my grandmother’s death. Thirty days of silence. Thirty nights of whispers. And every week, without fail, I was sent to the healer. It wasn’t a request. It was a ritual. A quiet reminder that I was incomplete. That I was the anomaly the pack didn’t know how to name. "This is the fourth time," I said, sitting stiffly on the healer’s bench. "What are you expecting to find?" She was older, with silver-threaded hair and eyes that had seen too much. Her fingers pressed gently to my pulse. "I don’t expect...," she said. "I observe." My jaw tightened. "And what do you observe?" "You’re strong. Your body is ready. But your wolf..." She hesitated. "It’s silent." I looked away. "It’s not coming." "You don’t know that." "I do." She sighed, dipping a cloth into a bowl of cool water. "You’re not broken, Ember. But you are different. And difference frightens people." I stood, pulling my braid tighter. "Difference gets challenged." I left before she could respond. Outside, the pack’s training field buzzed with energy. Wolves sparred in pairs, claws flashing, bodies shifting mid-strike. I walked past them, feeling their stares. Whispers followed me like shadows. "She still hasn’t shifted." "She’s not one of us." "She’s dangerous." Alexander and Andreas waited near the edge of the field. Their identical faces mirrored concern. My brothers. My protectors. If they could trade their wolves for mine, they would. But some battles must be fought alone. "What did the healer say?" Andreas asked. I shrugged. "Same as always. No wolf. No explanation." He stepped forward, protective as ever. "You don’t have to keep proving yourself." "I’m not proving anything," I said. "I’m surviving." Alexander nodded. "Then we’re surviving with you. No matter what happens, we’ve got your back." I gave a small nod, grateful but still guarded. The original twin, I called them. I was the afterbirth. The anomaly. My brothers had shifted before their sixteenth birthday. Early bloomers, the pack called them. Yet here I was, nearly four years later, still nothing. The only reason I hadn’t been cast out was because the pack thought I was their cousin. If they knew the truth, I’d be hunted. Then came the voice. "Still standing on the sidelines, Em?" Lila called out, stepping into the center of the field. "Watching. Judging. Pretending you’re dangerous." Lila Richard. The Beta’s daughter. Sharp-tongued, cruel, and always circling me like a vulture. Her voice was designed to cut. I turned to face her. Silent anger surged through my veins, but I didn’t react. "You think you’re untouchable because you trained overseas? You're nothing without a wolf," she sneered. Alexander and Andreas were already fuming, ready to intervene. But I didn’t need saving. Still, Andreas stepped forward, voice low and firm. "Back down, Lila." Alexander added, "You don’t want this fight." Lila laughed. "I’m not afraid of her. She’s just a girl with good reflexes. A wolfless girl." The crowd began to gather, sensing blood. I wasn’t afraid. I had taken down men twice her size. This was just a warm-up. Gamma Marcus stepped forward. "Is this a formal challenge, Lila?" Lila nodded. "Yes. I challenge Ember Zhou." I looked at my brothers. They nodded. I stepped into the ring. "I accept." The pack formed a wide circle, murmuring. Lila stretched, her confidence radiating. "She’ll tear Ember apart." someone muttered. I stood still, calm, calculating. But deep down I was angry at everything, no wolf, Grandma's death, Lila. Gamma Marcus raised his hand. "Begin." Lila struck first. Fast and vicious. I blocked and countered. My movements were precise, honed from years of training. I didn’t flinch. I didn’t falter. Then came the shift. A guttural growl erupted from Lila’s throat. Her body convulsed. Bones cracked. Fur burst from her skin. In seconds, she stood on four legs. A sleek brown wolf with glowing amber eyes. Her snarl was feral, confident. I adjusted my stance. She lunged. I rolled aside, fluid and fast. Pivoted, grabbed her mid-air, and slammed her into the ground. The crowd gasped. She scrambled up, snarling, and charged again. I sidestepped, spun, swept her legs out from under her. The wolf hit the dirt hard. Anger. Energy. It surged through my limbs, wild and electric. When she leapt again, claws extended, I ducked, twisted, and struck with more power than I thought I had. My body moved faster than instinct. Stronger than training. I flipped her onto her back, pinning her with a knee to her chest. "Yield," I growled. She snarled, struggling. "I said yield." The wolf stilled. Gamma Marcus stepped forward, stunned. "Enough." He studied me for a long moment, then nodded with quiet approval. Gamma Marcus raised his voice. "You should join us for training. Others could learn from you." A ripple moved through the crowd. Surprise. Annoyance. But no objections. I nodded. "I’ll think about it." I stepped out of the ring, my brothers flanking me. The pack parted as we passed. Behind me, the whispers resumed. "She still doesn’t have a wolf." "She’s just lucky." "She won’t last." I didn’t turn around. I didn’t flinch. But the words dug deep. Sharper than claws. That night, I sat restless and alone in my room, staring at the moon through the window. Full. Radiant. Mocking. But I wasn’t just restless. I was burning. The fight with Lila had left something behind, an energy I didn’t understand. It left me raw. My body had moved faster than it should have, stronger than it should have. I had felt something rise inside me, something ancient and wild. I needed to breathe. To think. To run from whatever had awakened in me. My brothers were on patrol. My parents in council meetings. And I was here. In a house that didn’t feel like home. In a pack that didn’t want me. I needed air. Space. A little drive to clear my head. I grabbed Alexander’s keys, texted him that I was driving out, and headed downstairs. The pack’s kitchen was quiet. Everyone had something to do. Except me. I stepped into the cool night air and slid into his car. The engine roared to life as I pulled out of the pack house and headed toward the border.
