Nikolai’s POV
As Gideon tried to restrain me from attacking Lumis, I collapsed to my knees instead, overwhelmed by the site of my father’s body just feet away from me… His neck broken.
Valric went to step from behind the desk to approach, but the guards Lumis had brought with him quickly flanked him at each side, warning expressions on their faces.
Gideon put his arms under mine, trying to pull me to my feet, but I couldn’t look away from my father, rage building inside of me. I knew if I moved I might shift, try to take down Lumis… I worked to calm myself, knowing if I gave him any reason to have me executed, too, it would be the worst thing that could happen for Isadora or our pup.
I had closed my eyes now, and was swallowing hard to work the anger down, when Lumis kneeled before me.
