NINETEEN The darkened streets of Broadway were lit up by store windows and passing traffic. A cold wind hung in the air that nipped the noses or ears of those not prepared for the winter chill. People moved about sluggishly from place to place, some with no purpose other than to get home. The girl walked steadily, endeavouring to blend in with the crowds of people. The judge had left the courthouse hours ago by taking a cab, so there was no hope of her following her to the next location. No, tomorrow was another day, the girl would get to her then. She pulled down the hood to shield her face as a bitter wind came rushing down the street. She just wanted to go home and sleep so she would be ready for tomorrow. She stopped at the mouth of an alleyway and looked around before disappearing
