FIVE McCall stood by the hotdog vendor located just down the street from the precinct. The evening sun was fading, and most of the rainwater had disappeared, leaving dark grey patches on the sidewalks. Some of the streets still had pools of water, but the oceans of rainwater had gone. She’d waited in line for only a few minutes, but it was time enough for her to check on missed text messages. McCall looked up as the woman in front finished drenching onions with ketchup and mustard.
