Chapter eleven Nia's pov The whole room erupted into chaos, as all eyes turned towards Nate whose smile had faltered as I dropped the bombshell. He looked like he had been punched in the gut as he stared at me with some unreadable expressions. I smiled gently, walking to the podium. Bryan gently pulled me towards him and I fell right into his embrace. He pecked me on the head, checking me out for any physical injuries. “Hey, I am fine,” I muttered to him, stealing a kiss from his lips. The shocked crowd were amused. He opened his mouth to talk, but i blocked it with my finger. “I need to clear up the air” i said to him, standing up straight before walking to the podium. “Attention everyone” i said into the mic immediately i lay my hands on it. All attention towards my direction eager to hear what i have to say. “As we have all seen on the screen how lowly the Lumbec incorporation can stoop so low just to get the most approval ratings” i said, facing Nate directly. The spotlight shone directly on him as he clemched his hand in a tight fist. “You should have thought well before trying to set me up” i thought inwardly. EARLIER ON I stormed out of the restroom the moment i realized it was Nate who sent me the gown i have been rocking since in the party. I felt choked and out of air so i went to the rooftop just to clear my head and breath in some fresh air. But two steps close to the open area on the rooftop, i heard a familliar voice, instructing someone. I quickly hid myself behind a statue, popping my head out just to catch the glimpse of the person talking and it turned out to be Nate and one of the male server. “What are they talking about?” I asked myself, curosity getting better of me as i strain my ears just to get some of the informations they are sharing among themself when i heard the most dreadful thing. “How could he?” I muttered, my hand flying to my mouth to cover up the scream building up in my stomach. “What the heck!” I thought, seeing him handling the server some powder. “The lady putting on the red gown, serve her drink with this p9wder in it, make sure she drinks it” he instructed, ahowing him a picture on his phone. I tried fighting a part of me which says i wasn't the one being referrred to but at the same time, this was the man who paid a prisoner to beat ne to pulp and also dumped me in a cold street for me to die a lonely death. I gently removed my heels, carefully walking back before they notice my presence. I breath out the air i didnt know i was holding when i got into my car. “Time to show you who the real boss is” i muttered, stepping out of the car with another outfit. BACK TO PRESENT "I want to assure you all that I, Nia Emirates, will not be intimidated or bullied by such underhanded tactics," I continued, my voice firm and confident. "I will not be swayed by false accusations or manipulated by deceitful schemes. I am a strong and capable businesswoman, and I will not be taken down by the likes of Nate Lumbec." The crowd erupted into applause, with many people cheering and whistling. I smiled, feeling a sense of pride and satisfaction. I had stood up for myself, and I had come out on top. Nate, on the other hand, looked like he was about to explode. His face was red with rage, and his eyes were bulging with anger. He took a step forward, his fists clenched, but I just smiled at him. "I'm not finished yet, Nate," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "You see, I have proof that you and your company have been engaging in some very shady business practices. And I'm going to make sure that everyone knows about it." The crowd gasped, with many people looking at Nate in shock and disgust. Nate's face turned white, and he took a step back, his eyes darting around the room. "You can't prove anything," he sneered, but I just smiled. "Oh, I think I can," I said, pulling out a folder full of documents and files. "You see, Nate, I've been doing some digging, and I've uncovered some very interesting information. Information that proves that you and your company have been engaging in some very illegal activities." The crowd erupted into chaos, with many people shouting and screaming. Nate's face turned red with rage, and he took a step forward, his fists clenched. "You're going to regret this, Nia," he snarled, but I just smiled. "I'm not afraid of you, Nate," I said, my voice firm and confident. "I'm not afraid of your threats or your intimidation tactics. I'm a strong and capable businesswoman, and I will not be taken down by the likes of you." The crowd cheered and applauded, with many people whistling and shouting my name. I smiled, feeling a sense of pride and satisfaction. I had stood up for myself, and I had come out on top. As the crowd continued to cheer and applaud, I turned to Bryan, who was standing beside me, a proud smile on his face. "Thank you," I said, smiling up at him. "Thank you for being here for me." Bryan smiled, his eyes shining with pride and admiration. "I'll always be here for you, Nia," he said, taking my hand in his. "I'll always support you, no matter what." I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude and love towards him. I knew that I could always count on Bryan, no matter what. And with him by my side, I knew that I could conquer anything. I pulled out the account ledgers in the brown envelope, throwing it across the room. The guests all struggled to have a copy so they could use it to their advantages and boost their approval ratings. “So much thirst for power and money” i muttered to myself, walking out of the hall, hand in hand with Bryan towards my car. I entered the car, letting go of his hand but he nudged me to make space for him. “Are you going with me?” I asked suprised, my eyes never leaving his. “You invited me for dinner yesterday but i balled out on you because of some family business so i want to make it up to you” he said, sitting beside me while i smile nervously. I couldn't help but feel a flutter in my chest as Bryan sat beside me, his eyes locked on mine. I had been looking forward to dinner with him yesterday, and I was disappointed when he had to cancel. But now, as he sat beside me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. "I'd like that," I said, smiling up at him. "But I have to warn you, I'm not cooking. We'll have to order takeout or go to a restaurant." Bryan chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I wouldn't have it any other way," he said, taking my hand in his. "I'm just happy to spend time with you, Nia." I felt a warmth spread through my chest as he said my name, his voice low and husky. I looked up at him, my eyes locked on his, and for a moment, we just stared at each other. The driver cleared his throat, breaking the spell. "Where to, Miss Nia?" he asked, looking at us in the rearview mirror. I smiled, feeling a sense of nervousness. "Let's go to that new Italian place downtown," I said, looking at Bryan. "I've been wanting to try it out." Bryan nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "Sounds perfect," he said, smiling. As we drove to the restaurant, the tension between us was palpable. We arrived at the restaurant, and the driver opened the door for us. Bryan got out first, then helped me out of the car. We walked into the restaurant, hand in hand, and I couldn't help but feel like I was on cloud nine. As we were led to our table, I couldn't help but notice the way Bryan looked at me. His eyes were filled with admiration and desire, and I knew that he wanted me. I felt a flutter in my chest. We ordered our food and wine, and as we waited for our meal to arrive, we talked and laughed together. The conversation flowed easily, and I felt like I had known Bryan my whole life. As we finished our meal and prepared to leave, Bryan reached across the table and took my hand. His eyes locked on mine, and I could see the desire and attraction in his eyes. "I had a great time tonight, Nia," he said, his voice low and husky. "Would you like to do it again sometime soon?" I smiled, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. "I'd like that," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Bryan smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'll call you tomorrow," he said, standing up and pulling me to my feet. “Bye” i waved him off as i step into my own car and drive off. The drive home was just somehow. I cant really tell what my mood was but one thing was sure, i had successfully engage Nate's company in a scandal they might keep on fighting till they go bankrupt. Immeduately i got home, i went syraight to bed not bothering to remove my clothes or makeup. I was really exhausted. I woke up with a loud, banging throbbing headache. I blinked my eye lid rapidly, my vision blurry. “Ouch” i winced in pain as i held my head up that was threatning to fall off my neck. “I really drank way too much at the gala party last night” i said to myself, dragging my lazy feet on the floor straight to the bathroom. As I stumbled into the bathroom, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and couldn't help but cringe. My makeup was smudged, my hair was a tangled mess, and my eyes looked like they had been through a war. I looked like I had been put through a wringer. I turned on the faucet and cupped my hands under the cool running water, splashing it onto my face in an attempt to wash away the remnants of last night's party. The water felt refreshing, but it did little to alleviate the pounding headache that was threatening to split my skull open. I reached for the bottle of aspirin on the counter and popped two tablets into my mouth, washing them down with a glass of water. I hoped that they would kick in soon and provide some much-needed relief from the agony that was wracking my brain. As I stood there, waiting for the aspirin to take effect, I couldn't help but think about the events of the previous night. The gala party had been a huge success, and I had managed to expose Nate's company for the shady dealings that they had been engaging in. It had been a risky move, but it had paid off in the end. As I stood there, lost in thought, I heard a knock at the door. It was probably Maria, come to check on me and see how I was doing after last night's party. I made my way to the door, still feeling a bit wobbly from the effects of the hangover. I opened the door to find Maria standing there, a look of concern etched on her face. "Miss Nia, how are you feeling?" she asked, eyeing me up and down. I smiled weakly, feeling a bit embarrassed about my current state. "I'm feeling a bit rough, Maria," I admitted. "I think I might have had a bit too much to drink last night." Maria nodded sympathetically. "I'll get you some coffee and some toast," she said. "That should help to settle your stomach." “Nah, just make hangover soup for me or spicy noodles with lot of water in it” i said to her, almost falling but quickly held on the door for support.
