Chapter 35 Scary Mutant Dogs

1014 Words
Richard smiled as his eyes finally fell on the four strong police dogs behind Dempsey. A blood-red stain was spreading through the dog's eyes as if an invisible spider were quietly spinning a web of boiling blood.   Genetic degradation had begun and the mysterious Radiation D was quietly reprogramming the genes of all living things on earth. The police dogs began to get irritable; one of them started foaming at the mouth and nose. His large teeth were on show as it smelled the blood in the air. The swat team did not recognize any of this; totally unaware of the crisis unfolding behind them.   "Ha, are you kidding me? Your people are not in this room. f**k you. I have no time to mess around with you anymore. Arrest him and let the dogs search for the hostages.”   An officer began to approach Richard when there was a loud noise behind him. A short policeman in the police dog squad was screaming.    “Tiger, what are you doing? Listen to me! Sit down!”   Captain Dempsey whirled around to see the normally very obedient police dog snarling wildly at its master. Within seconds, the dog's ten-centimeter long teeth were piercing his master's throat, and a mass of mangled human came flying off the police's chest.   Dempsey went pale. As someone who was familiar with the structure of the human body, he recognized that part of the discarded tissue was the police officer’s larynx. The dog had torn out its master’s throat and seemed to be wanting more.   It growled in his master’s and with just one tear, tore the man’s neck from his body. The head, still in its helmet, rolled all the way forward until it hit another policeman’s foot.   It was a terrifying scene that went far beyond anyone’s accepted reality, even for the trained SWAT team.   "What the hell is this? Why are the dogs attacking?”   Captain Dempsey jerked back and stared at Richard with a look of disbelief in his eyes.   Richard smiled and raised his forefinger to his lips, signalling him to be silent. In fact, on this occasion Richard had good intentions because the police dogs had already mutated; any big movement or sound could arouse their gruesome attention.   Unfortunately, Dempsey misunderstood it as an act of defiance; a slap in the face.   " I am gonna f*****g kill you!"   He pointed his gun at Richard, but before he could pull the trigger, a black shadow was upon him. After the mutated police dog bit his master to death, it was attracted by the shouts. It leaped forward, its huge fangs exposed, aiming right for Dempsey’s throat.   “DaDaDa...” The sound of gunfire filled the air.   Acting purely on instinct at a critical moment, Dempsey automatically pulled the trigger. He fired a whole round into the dog. However, he didn’t have time to take a breath because his eyes fixed on the other dogs in the ground.   He saw the dead body of another policeman who had been bitten by his dog. His body lay motionless on the ground. Blood was pouring like a fountain from a hole in his neck. In seconds, another stocky looking policeman suffered a bite to the throat. Standing over the body, another mutant police dog was frantically gnawing at the body.   "What’s the f**k? What's going on here? Did the virus break out already?”   Janet, Lily, Toby, and the others were still dumbfounded by what had happened. They crowded together in full panic, their faces full of terror. It was too much to comprehend. One minute they saw the police dog being completely obedient, the next it suddenly turned evil.   Having finished off its master, one of the dogs went to attack Captain Dempsey. Fortunately, he reacted quickly to kill the mad police dog.   "What the hell is this? Someone please f*****g explain this!"   Dempsey finally recovered from the terror and touched his throat. If he were just a little too slow, he would have died just like his colleagues!   "Captain, we don't know why this happened. The dogs are totally obedient, they would never attack without an order.   "Bullshit! If they were obedient, they wouldn’t have killed their f*****g masters! Forget it, call headquarters and ask them to…"   Dempsey trailed off mid-sentence. His eyes opened wide and he could not say a word. As everyone also stared in total shock, the police dog, which had just been shot to pieces, managed to get up again, shaking. Its bloody eyes were fixed on Dempsey and blood was dribbling from its sharp fangs and scarlet tongue.   "Impossible. Is this a dog or a wolf?"   Terrified, Lily tried to hide behind her boyfriend, Wayne. Her eyes were full of fear.   "Look at him! He is filled with holes… how is he still alive? It’s a zombie dog that can come back from the dead like we’re in some doomsday novel. It's one of those horrible creatures that was infected with a virus and now loves to eat humans!”   Janet, being easy to anger, was annoyed by Lily’s display of affection in front of her. She wanted to frighten Lily and Wayne so that they couldn’t show their feelings.   "From a medical point of view, there is no such thing as a zombie virus. It looks like rabies to me, and Captain Dempsey didn't succeed in hitting the dog in the head, that is the reason it is still alive. Everyone can be assured that although the dog is still alive, it will not last long with such excessive bleeding."   In the crowd, Milos whispered his guess. As a doctor of veterinary medicine, he had examined and treated many animals. The dog was bleeding so much so that it was clearly dying. However, there were still two other dogs left. He stared at them with a worried look.
