Chapter 61: Mimi 8125

1092 Words
Tommy was five years old, and it had been a year since he’d first appeared in the Villa zone. He’ had first been seen wandering around aimlessly and people called the police to try and help him. Before long, though, he reappeared. People were curious about him, so they called the police again, but he seemed to think the Villa zone was his home. Several days after being taken away, he showed up again. Thus, they had no choice but to accept him. After all, he wasn’t annoying. Tommy was friendly, but there was one thing about him that made people uncomfortable. He called the men “Father” and the women “Mother,” and there was nothing that they could do to stop him. Eventually, they stopped trying, and they accepted him as their adopted son, and from time to time, they offered him bread and water. When that happened, he would smile at those people and happily take the food. The reason Marry did not recognize Tommy right away was because she was too excited. Now that she did recognize him, she had mixed feelings. It was hard to believe that he had survived the disaster, and judging from the bag of biscuits in his hand, she could tell he hadn’t suffered a lot. Marry gazed at those biscuits greedily. She forced herself to smile as she knelt in front of Tommy, and she said, “Sweetie, can you tell me where you got these biscuits? Can I see them?”  Tommy handed Marry the biscuits and said, “Biscuits… Mimi… Biscuits… Mother… Take it!” Who is Mimi? – thought Elmer. Marry: “Thank you. But I don’t need them. I just want to know where you found them. Can you tell me?” Elmer walked forward and his eyes were wide with anticipation. Tommy shook the biscuits in front of Marry and said, “Biscuits… Mimi... Yummy… Take it!” Apparently, he could not answer the question. This was because he was too little to have a proper vocabulary. Marry was disappointed. Shaking her head, she took the biscuits and walked it over to a ten-year-old girl. “Here,” she said. “You can have them.” “f**k you!” Elmer roared. “You lied to me! How dare you!” He had planned to get the biscuits, but the woman had fooled him and got to them before him. He raised his knife and was about to stab her, but, luckily, Mabel was near enough to intervene. She stepped forward and knocked the knife out of Elmer’s hand. Elmer turned on Mabel, and he was about to punch her in the face when Tommy began to shriek. “Mother! Father! Don’t fight! Don’t fight!” He reached out with his dirty hands and tried to hug the lawyer’s legs. “Get the f**k away from me!” Elmer roared. He kicked Tommy and the boy flew across the room, and as he hit the wall, the thing that he had hidden behind his back slid across the floor. It was a small albino mouse. Its red eyes showed that it was also scared. To a mouse, people were giant beasts, and it knew that if someone stepped on him, that would be the end.   The mouse screamed and ran towards Tommy. Before it could get to him, though, Elmer scooped him up from the ground. Then he grinned at Tommy and said, “So, Mimi is this mouse. What should we do with him? I say we boil him and make a meal out of him. After all, meat is meat. Right?” The lawyer held the tail of the mouse and swung it in the air. The mouse screamed helplessly. “Mimi! Mine! Father! Father… Let… Father… It… Mimi…” cried Tommy. “Go away!” Tommy shouted. He walked over to the boy and kicked him in the face. Blood splattered everywhere as his head snapped backwards. “I am not your Father! You silly boy! f**k off!” Marry could not believe what she was seeing. “Stop it!” she roared. “He is just a kid!” She rushed over to the boy and cradled him in her arms. Then she looked up at Elmer and said, “Why are you so cruel? He is just a kid! I can give you food. Just don’t hurt him. Or his mouse!” “I should have intervened sooner,” Marry muttered. She wiped some of the blood from Tommy’s face and said, “I am so sorry, little one.” The lawyer was shocked by her words. “Do you actually have food?” he asked. “How much do you have?” Marry: “Promise to stop beating this boy and give him his mouse. Then we can talk.”   ***   When Marry returned with a backpack full of food, Elmer was shocked. “God!” he gasped. “There is so much food here!” His group had not eaten anything for a whole day, and they hadn’t had a proper meal since the day after the Doomsday event. Thus, this bag of food was more precious than anything else in the world. “It is a magic that you still have so much food,” Mabel said. “Can you sell some to me and my friends? We are also hungry.”  Marry sighed and said, “I’m sorry, but I don’t have food for sell. This is my house. You can leave now.”  “Why are you so mean?” asked Mabel. “We are neighbors. We should help each other. I can give you money. Lots of money...” She looked at the people she had brought with her and tears welled up in her eyes. Marry: “I’m sorry, but the answer is still no. What would I do with money anyway?” “f**k that,” the lawyer muttered. “Nobody is leaving here hungry.” With that said, he turned around and walked to the door to the room with the food. He pulled out his knife and began to work the lock. “What are you doing?” Marry shouted. “I gave you food, and I won’t sell any more!”  Elmer’s face turned red from rage when the door wouldn’t open. “Damn it!” he roared. “We are starving, and you have so much food! Open the door! Give us all that you have! Otherwise, I will kill you all! I swear!” By now, Mabel’s group had joined Elmer’s, and when Marry saw that, she began to sweat. “Are you with him now?” she asked. Mabel: “I don’t want to be, but what do you expect. I saved your life, and you still won’t share your food with my people…” Marry frowned. This is my own fault – she realized. Not knowing what to do, she tried to think about what Richard would do if he were in her shoes.
