Chapter 5

1923 Words
A blurry image of the world appeared when I first opened my eyes. I hadn’t even realized I had passed out. It made me think of a new born, he would see the world like this. The thought didn’t last very long. My head was on fire and my body hurt like hell. Soon my eyes adjusted and the walls flashed red and blue. I don’t know how long I was passed out for. I was on the couch while Kale, pale and exhausted, was leaning on the piano talking to an officer. Kacy and Trisha were by my side, waiting patiently for me to awaken fully. The man, that killer, was dead with a bullet to the back of his head. Kale must have killed him before he killed me. The greatest amount gratitude fell over me. I gently hoisted myself up, pain pinching my ribs, till I had a clear view of what was happening around me. I walked slowly, minding my aching body, to Kale, but before I could say Thanks. He nodded and smiled saying no problem. I smiled at his mind reading and turned to assess what was happening around me.    The people in the chairs were sitting still, untied and unmasked. My eye caught the person I helped kill, it was the doctor. I couldn’t breathe. Looks like I live up to the name that evil man gave me. Death seems to just follow me. I must have been turning blue because a medic rushed to my side. He lifted my head and made eye contact with me. He nodded to Kacy and Trisha, and they simply left the room. He smiled and started to shuffle me out of the room; I couldn’t really walk properly, the pain was a lot to take in, so I leaned a lot on him. I watched the number of people rush past me. I couldn’t understand what going on. He dragged me further into the passage. He had hazel brown hair with a few grey hairs here and there, brown eyes and a very rough appearance for a medic. We walked past the people in the chairs. First, the doctor who sat limp and blood stained, dead. I turned my head away in guilt. Second was one of the goons that were, by the window staring at Jai and I, shivers ran up my spine instantly. Next was mama and following her was Jai. I had never been so excited to see him breathing.     I leaped of the medic shoulder, forgetting my pain and headed towards his chair. He stood up the instant he saw me. I stood so close to him, that I could feel his breath on my cheek. I stared at him relieved. He cracked a weak smile and I reached my hands out and hugged him with all the strength I had left. At first, he was shocked but in an instant he wrapped his strong arms around my waist, pulling deeper into him. My breathing hitched at our proximity. I can feel his deep breaths against my body. I broke out his spell of warmth and I squirmed under his grasp, for release. He loosened his grip but still held on to me, I gulped feeling his intense eyes staring at me, I couldn’t stare at him directly. I was sure to give in to him. My mind wanted to tell him so much. I whispered in the softest voice, “I’m glad I didn’t kill you”. Jai chuckled, I looked up shocked, he heard me, I blushed a new shade of embarrassment and Jai caught my chin with on of his palms, as I tried to duck my shame and raised it so he could see my eyes. He moved face closer to mine, I started to panic and tried to move out of his grip. He tightened his one arm around me, still holding onto my chin, No escaping now. He let his hand holding my chin fall to my neck then my shoulder, down my arm and back around my waist. Each part he touched inflamed. I didn’t dare move. He dropped lips next to my ear. A heated breath escaped his lips and feathered my ear, a shiver ran down my entire body. He must have felt my shiver against his body, because instantly his breathing deepened and pulled me closer to him, if that was even possible. His voice was deep and slow in my ear. Every word, making my whole body shake. “I am happy you didn’t kill me too” I felt deep in me, something was stirring and this was all Jai’s doing. I let out a soft nervous laugh, my movement caused him to move and his lips brushed the edge of my ear. I gasped and we both froze. He lifted his head slowly almost like he was to scared that my reaction would be to pull away from him. He was looking at me, for some sort of reaction, I think I was still in shock. He opened his mouth to say something but the medic interrupted. I pushed myself out of his grip and he let go unwillingly. What just happened and did I let that happen in front of other people. I need to shut down this weird feeling I have for Jai, I shouldn’t be letting my guard down. My cheeks burnt red with embarrassment, just thinking people were watching us. Jai growled at the medic and sensing my blush next him. He reached out his hand, once again, and placed it gently on my waist, he hesitated for a moment, to see if I regretted the past two minutes. My face must have been unreadable, so to test whether I did, he pulled me close to his side. I gulped, It has the most comforting feeling which only inflamed my face more. My body betraying my mind.      The Medic interrupted us once again and started talking to Jai like the moment between Jai and I had didn’t even happen. It made me stop and double check that I didn’t make up the scenario in my head. “We need to get everyone out of here before something else happens. Get everyone into the medic van as quickly as possible.” He stopped turned around and took a deep breath and ended with “I’m sorry Jai. I wasn’t in time to stop this from happening. I am really sorry son.” The last word stung me and I looked up to Jai who just nodded in response to him. I was so confused. Jai was still holding me, he was so warm, but I wasn’t paying attention to that. I was still shocked that his dad was here. There was some major tension between them; I could feel it. Police kept streaming in, searching and taking pictures. Jai started moving while I was still attached to his side. A sharp pain from my rib radiated with the our movement. I slumped a little in his grip. He must have noticed and slowed his pace. His one hand firmly around my waist, unwavering. As we passed Mama, he grabbed her hand and pulled her along with us towards the medic van. I kept up even though the pain radiated through me. Mama and I got in but Jai turned back and walked into the house.     Kacy, Trisha, Marcus and Kale were already inside. The van was cramped and hot. Finally, Jai came back but this time with a bag. Jai got in and passed me a half smirk then out of nowhere Jai’s dad appeared and closed the doors. There wasn’t much space with all the equipment but we made do. Kacy, Trisha and Kale had not healed much so they took the seats and Jai, Marcus, mama and I stood pressed against each other like canned sardines. The drive was extremely shaky due to the terrible dirt roads and I kept losing my balance and bumping into everyone, Marcus was getting a little annoyed so in a low voice so Mama wouldn’t hear, he spoke to Jai. “Would you just hold her, she won’t hurt you any more than those idiots back at the house” then smiled wickedly at me. I narrowed my eyes and held back a smile. Then the van hit a pothole and everyone went flying upwards, Marcus hit his head on the roof and used every vulgar word in the book in one sentence, some in a different language too. Mama landed on an open gurney and decided she was more comfortable on it than standing. Jai fell on his back on the floor, he moaned in agony, as I landed on him. I winced at the sudden impact. Jai turned to Marcus, and gave him the finger. Marcus laughed hard eventually he had to stop because it began to hurt.     I managed to hurt Jai. I forced myself not smile even though I really wanted too. I felt really bad and attempted to remove myself, whilst keeping his shirt down covering my body but only ended up elbowing him in the gut. We both knew that this was not going to work because I kept hurting him every time I moved, so he grabbed me firmly before I tried to move again and turned us both over so that he was on top of me. In a soft but stern tone he told me to stop moving. I smiled, feeling the color return to my cheeks, and nodded. He gently pinned me down while he recovered from the blows. I could feel his body on me and his warm breath on my neck and smiled to myself. He looked at me and caught me smiling. I blushed more and turned away which in turn made him smile too. Kale whistled from where he was sitting limply and Kacy joined him by telling us to get a room. Mama turned to see what was all the commotion about and decided she would rather go back to her nap than to ask Jai what he was doing on top of me. We hit another bump and this time, we knocked heads. We groaned loudly in unison. Marcus was now barely able to stand after he hit his head a second time on the roof.     Mama turned around again looking absolutely shocked as she heard the moans. I whispered into Jai’s ear, “Mama thinks we doing…things, we should get up” he gave his mother a side glance and laughed in pain. Jai lifted himself to his elbows and stared down at me and smiled. He was absolutely gorgeous. I can’t help smile back at him. There was a moment of silence in the van then a massive bang and the van was rolling on its sides. Jai grabbed hold of me and we were being thrown in the van together. It was like we were coins in a piggy bank and some greedy little child decided to violently shake it. Everything was breaking around us; screams filled the air until the van came to a stop. Silence struck the crashed van.
