Chapter Twenty-Four
The men had set up the gaming table, tightened the bolts and were on their way to find a hamburger joint. Ava took her place at the head of the table, broke open a new deck of cards and started to limber up. Kathrine watched her cutting the deck one-handed and then start pitching cards against the opposite bumper. Dell was in the bedroom unpacking her travel case.
When the knock came at the front door, Kathrine was in the middle of verifying the liquor delivery. She assumed it was the events planner stopping in on her way home to check at the Cottage and be sure everything was to Kathrine’s liking. But when Kathrine opened the front door, Sisco stepped through from the porch. “Sisco. You’re not scheduled to play tonight.”
