Chapter 1
Ethan's POV The world seemed to be bathed in darkness that night. There was no moon today. Instead, the sky seemed to be replaced by a ceiling of endless dark clouds. As I approached the lake, I saw a figure glancing at the sky. Her long silver hair dancing with the wind, hugging her magnificent curves, her skin so white that it resembled the full moon. I was in a trance, completely immobilized, my heart pounded fast, and my breathing was erratic. All I could do was watch. I felt powerless... I wanted to take a step forward, reach my hand out to touch her, but it felt like her aura commanded me not to move. As if she sensed my desire, she turned in my direction, glancing over her shoulder. Her amber eyes burned into my soul, my wolf cried and whimpered, but I was stuck. Pain crossed her eyes and words slipped from her full lips, a single bloody tear ran down her face. Her eyes looked sad, lifeless. A gust of wind blew strongly in my direction and I almost lost my balance, a single piercing howl echoed through the woods, and in a blink of an eye, she was gone. I looked around stunned, but there was only darkness, my heart crumbled in my chest, my wolf trashed and howled in my head. I woke up with my alarm buzzing in my ears, still dazed in confusion over the dream I've been having for weeks now. "The Moon Goddess..." I whispered to myself as I ran my fingers through my hair trying to appease my nerves. That silver hair and golden eyes left no room for mistake about who my whimsical visitor was. It has been passed down for generations through countless tales that the Goddess was the only wolf in existence bearing those traits. I sighed, looking at my ceiling. After a couple of deep breaths, I felt like I had regained control of myself. I threw my legs off the bed and stumbled on my way to the bathroom, the sensation of the cool marble floor under my feet helped pull me back to reality. I got into the shower and let the hot water wash away the feelings from my dream, but as I closed my eyes those golden orbs filled with pain and sorrow flashed in my mind. My wolf howled and whimpered. I couldn't understand why, and he refused to tell me. "f**k Lucian, why do you have to be so stubborn?" I thought to myself. I finished my shower and picked a gray suit that had been prepared the night before. Just as I finished dressing, there was a soft knock on the door. "Come in." "Good Morning, Mr. Prentiss."said Royce, rolling in a cart with my breakfast. "Good Morning, Royce." Royce has been my butler for some time now. He used to serve under my family, but he's been exclusively in my service since my coronation as Alpha King. You could see how much pride he took in his position, his clothes were always perfectly spotless and wrinkle free, his gloves pristine white. He was tall and lean, in very good shape for a man in his 60s. If it wasn't for his white hair and the lines on his face, no one would know. "Mr. Caddel left your itinerary for the day, and is waiting for you when you are ready." He said, handing me a tablet with my scheduled meetings for the day. I nodded, acknowledging the information and scanned quickly through the info on the tablet. My schedule was full; almost no time for a break. Rob efficiently arranged my meetings, making sure that I was able to solve all matters pertaining to my business in this city before it was time to leave. Sometimes he worked too efficiently. One of these days he will overwork me, I swear. I looked at the clock and realized I was almost running late. I could already imagine Rob pacing impatiently in the lobby, wondering why I was taking so long. I gulped down the orange juice and toast, grabbed my coat and left. I walked into the elevator and waited till it made its way down and again those eyes flashed in my mind. Golden eyes, crying bloody tears... what does this dream mean? As the door opened I could see Rob pacing in the lobby, and I laughed. I was right, I knew him all too well. Rob was my right hand, we've been friends ever since I could remember, and as we grew up he became a powerful and important member of not only my company, but also my family. "Good Afternoon, Ethan" he said mockingly, hinting at my 3-minute tardiness. "Good Morning Rob." I said, not very entertained by the joke. "How was your rest?" He asked curious, getting a hint of my dark mood. I side-eyed him, and kept walking in the direction of the car that was waiting for me with the door already being held open by the driver. "Was it that dream again?" He questioned as we took our positions on the back seat. I nodded. "Look, we are almost done here, we only have a couple of more days. When we get back we can talk to the Elders and-" He stopped talking when I sighed. "I don't think this is something the Elders will be able to decipher." I couldn't be sure, but my instincts told me that there was nothing they could do, this was a problem for me to solve. "You can't be sure, let them at least try." "Look Rob, we both know that this Elder thing is just a show, they don't hold the knowledge or power they once held, they are just a bunch of ancient leeches, waiting for an opportunity to gain my favor." I hated the Elder Council, it was once the symbol of knowledge and power for our entire race, but today it's just a disgusting display of manipulative and cunning wolves, ready to stomp anyone that gets in their way, it resembled more a council of noble clowns, than actually and Elder council. "I know that, but we can't simply dismiss and discard them-" "Fine." I cut him, not wanting to stretch the conversation, I wanted to solve this mystery at any cost, but there were no clues, and I didn't know where to start. It's said that when the Moon Goddess appears in your dreams it's an omen, of good or bad luck, and my instincts told me it was the latter. I watched the city as we traveled through the busy streets, skyscrapers towering over the people that walked hastily, engaged in their own little world. Rob updated me on the details of the acquisition at hand, and I nodded in understanding. Nowadays, Rob did most of the scouting and managing our acquisitions. I was there just to settle the details and show up for meetings. He was very dependable and, in truth, I wasn't needed to run the business. Rob could do it all. We arrived at our destination, a famous restaurant to meet with the CEO and owner of Blooming, a company dedicated to AI technology, the latest trend in the market. The past fifteen days we've been working on the details of the deal and all that was left was signing it. The host directed us to a small private room. Rob and I were the first to arrive. We took our seats and ordered drinks while we waited for the guy to arrive.
