Chapter One - Meeting my New Parents

916 Words
I stayed with Mr. Fox for many days. He hunted for the both of us and spoke very little. On the 11th day, we had come to a clearing full of wildflowers and a creek. Berry bushes sat near the creek. "This is where I leave you, Stay put. Patrols will be here soon. Good bye young kit. Perhaps we will meet again." I watch Mr. Fox trot back to the safety of the forest. "Thank you, Mr. Fox," I whisper smiling to myself. "SolSkin, I'm hungry. Can't we just be one again?" "No. We wait like the fox said. There are some blueberries by the stream though." I followed her directions and sure enough, there were bushes and bushes of blueberries. I ate so many blueberries, that I fell asleep to the sound of the water in the stream. Crunch, crunch, crunch. I awoke startled to the sound of paws walking along the creek bed. I held my breath and froze. "Alpha, something at most of your blueberries." I slowly move into a crouched position. A large wolf rounds the corner of my resting spot. He has honey-gold eyes and light blond fur. I look straight into his eyes. Fear. I felt afraid. I bolted, not sure of where I was running to, but best to just run. As a human, it was a feeble attempt to escape. I wasn't fast nor nimble like I was in my wolf form. I was so fearful I retreated to the back of my head forcing SolSkin forward and easily shifted into her. Unfortunately, we weren't a great fearsome beast. Nope, we were a snack-size meal as a pup. There were three large wolves around me. A blonde, muddy brown, and a chocolate chip. "Oh! It's a pup!" the chocolate chip one said aloud with his wolf. I growled at them baring my little puppy teeth. Yes, they will fear me, even if I am small. A howl broke their focus on me and the blonde wolf looked up. "he, he, he. That's the Luna. You're in trouble now." the muddy brown one said to the blonde wolf. "Yeah, Cedric went ahead and called for his mate Carmen. Told her it was a pup." The blonde one huffed. "She-wolves and their need to protect any pup." Says the muddy brown one shaking his head. A she-wolf bounded toward our little circle. She was silvery blonde and nuzzled the blonde wolf before growling at the two other males. Both bowed their heads to her and backed off me. I still kept my focus on the two blonde wolves. "She's so small. Who would abandon such a young pup?" Her wolf asked her mate. In anger, I shifted and marched up to that she-wolf. "I WASN'T ABANDONED!!" I screamed at her. The wolf looked at me confused. "Mommy told Nana to run. Bad men were in the forest." I sniffed back tears threatening to fall. I shivered to be in my pink skin. "She can willingly shift at such a young age! Most werewolves have to wait till 15/16 to be able to complete the shift safely." The chocolate chip one said. Another wolf appeared at the edge of the field and came forward with a thick wool blanket in its mouth gesturing me to take it from him. I looked at the wolves, "Mr. Fox, the Forest Guardian told me to wait for you here. That you would be on patrol and visit here often." They seemed to be communicating with each other through the mind-link. The she-wolf turned to me, "I am Carmen. I am Luna of Cypress Bay Pack. My mate here is Cedric and he is the Alpha." I looked at her and nodded. "We will be right back. I'm going to allow my human forward so she can help you pup." Carmen leaned forward and gave me a gentle lick on my cheek. The four wolves moved off a bit and met up with what looked like soldiers. A woman with silver blonde hair and hazel eyes approached me with some children's clothes. She knelt in front of me looking at me at eye level. "I am Jasmine, Carmens human half." She said with a warm smile. She was patient with me while I wrestled with wearing clothes for the first time. Wolves didn't wear clothes so this was a first for me. Once decent she led me to her mate. He was tall and had handsome features. He had shaggy blonde hair and golden pools of eyes. He shifted his gaze and smiled kneeling to my level. "What is your name?" he asked kindly. "My name is Freya," I told him. "Well Freya, would you like to home with us? I can send search parties out for your mother and family." He offered. Jasmine looked to her mate and then to me. "Come, we can wait for them at the packhouse while they search. Get you some food and a hot bath. How does that sound?" 'SolSkin, should we go with them?' 'Yes, you will be very safe with them. Jasmine's wolf has already imprinted on you. She and her wolf will protect you no matter what happens.' SolSkin tells me, I can feel her smiling. "Ok." I was able to mumble out. Bobbing my head trying to stay awake. With my answer, Luna Jasmine scooped me up and carried me off to their home. Her warm embrace made me feel safe once more.
