Chapter 1
"Us humans don't wear masks in the society like you people have to. Yet somehow I feel as if you people are freer in your masks than we are without them. You're free to be who you are and don't have to worry about what people think about you. I wish I could be able to experience a world where I could be able to live a life such as that," the youngest princess, Quara, asked as she was sitting in the library across from a mage staying in the palace.
"Why can't you?" the mage asked curiously, as she stared at the princess' mentally broken state.
"One I am a princess, so I have to present myself well or it could end in a nightmare for my family." Quara began to explain. "Two, I am a human woman, so I have less of a chance to make a life for myself even if I wasn't royalty. Three and the biggest issue, have you met my family?"
"Okay you make a good point," the mage admitted then made a connection. "Wait is your family the reason why you are hiding from your own party?"
"My family's party you mean," Quara corrected her. "They are just trying to find me, someone of good connections, to marry me off too. I almost envy the fact that my oldest brother doesn't have to worry about these matters. But, I do pity him on the fact that he has to be king instead of getting to choose what he wants."
"Wait is that why he's always at the taverns at night?" the mage questioned as she grabbed a book from the section for legal studies.
"He's been where?" Quara asked her friend concerned.
"The tavern down the trail," the mage confirmed. "He went that way a half-hour ago."
"Oh this is not good," Quara told her friend. "We have to go get him. If he is caught there it could spell disaster for him."
"Okay," the mage responded, upset at the idea of leaving her studies. "But let's be quick. Your mother will be furious if she finds out you left the castle during another one of her suitor gatherings." With that, the mage put her blood-red cloak with ease and helped Quara put her fancy midnight purple cloak on her and the two proceeded to sneak out of the castle, unknown to Quara's family and their guests.
