It was a beautiful autumn morning a couple weeks after Mr. watcher and Lilac visited the palace, Lilac was washing her face in the kitchen basin it was a day of rest her father said they did what was most important providing for the royal family. Free time was unknown now to Lilac and she was trying to decide what to do, she walked into the living space and looked at her mother sewing, her father reading, and Aiden playing with some new toy their father bought from the city. A loud horn made an announcement outside all three of them looked at each other while Aiden continued playing. Mr. watcher went outside and Lilac followed and stood in the door way. A man on a horse followed by eight other men on horses climbed off his horse "Good morning watcher family I am here to present a invitation from King James to invite you to the ball he shall have outfits prepared for you by the royal tailor please show up one day early to be measured and prepared" the man turns to Lilac and walks towards her and prevents a letter "for you miss watcher". Lilac hesitates and takes the letter and thanks him. Both of them go back inside after the kings men leave and Mr. watcher goes to explain to Mrs. watcher what just happen while Lilac stays in the kitchen and opens the letter.
Dear Lilac
how are you? I am afraid I am not good at writing letters nor talking to others I am sorry if I came off strange when you and your father visited I am learning from my father how to deal with commoners
with that word Lilac rolls her eyes and decides the prince is ignorant, she continues to read the letter
I asked my father to invite you to the ball I believe we could be what people call friends. I hope you attend I shall see you soon
From Prince Onyx
Lilac closes the letter and joins her family and notices her mother is excited about the ball and is talking about the food and how her husband and her will be dancing all night. Later that night Lilac looks at the letter again and was thinking why would the prince send her a letter? be friends? they were both from very different statuses perhaps they could be, her father and king James seem rather close but they were both men Lilac thought she was just a young girl and not just that she was a commoner, a farmer, a farmers daughter. What possibly could her and the prince of Altria possibly have in common enough to make them friends. Lilac put the letter away in her desk and closed the drawer and looked out her window thinking what the upcoming days had in stored for her and her family.
