Ready

Nina's pov I had to hear an earful from my father. He scolded me for being reckless. Until our return he worried about my safety. “At least you're both alive. I can breathe now,” he said over the phone. “Dad. If I had taken anyone with me, he wouldn't have shown me where he took her,” I tried to reason. “You should have informed us what you were going to do. Blake would have kept an eye on you from a distance,” he insisted. “Okay dad. Next time I'll do that.” “Next time?” He paused for a while. “There better not be a next time. I've had enough. What are you trying to do? Give me a heart attack?” I chuckled. “No dad. I'd never do that.” “Good. Now watch Bree, get better and come back. Zoe is asking for more toys. I have to go.” I put my phone back into my pocket. It was good to be back. It was good to get scolded by dad. That meant everything was fine. I looked at Bree who still hadn't regained consciousness. My girl was drugged. The tests proved it. I knew she wouldn't have slept like nothing happened. I doubted she remembered Drake and even if she did, those memories wouldn't be pleasant. Why would she trust him? The results pissed me off but at the same time, I was glad I got to take her home before the drugs did major harm to her body. She slept for the entire night and most of the following day. I knew she was making progress. Regardless, it was hard to watch my daughter in that state. “Hey.” Blake said, breathing out heavily as soon as he opened the door to the hospital room. “I came as soon as I could. How is she?” I smiled, my heart fluttering when I saw his handsome face. “She's getting better. He drugged her. So it will take time.” “Damn,” he whispered, gently caressing her little hand. “What kind of a father drugs his own daughter?” I shrugged. “The kind that wants everything his way? I bet she resisted and wouldn't go to sleep so he drugged her. He probably knew I'd go looking for her… so he…” I sighed. “I'm just glad I found her.” “How did you find us? I didn't know where to look. That farm house in a rural village would be the last place I'd look.” “Your father was worried when he couldn't find you in the room. He contacted us and told us about a text you sent. We knew you must have taken off to look for her so we followed your scent.” I frowned. “My scent?” “Yeah. The queen? She's a lycan, remember?” “Oh yeah,” I mumbled. Werewolves and lycans had a super sense of smell. “I must say, what you did was brave. Dangerous, but brave. I'm glad you and Bree are fine,” he said. My lips twitched into a smile. “When you're a parent, you don't have a choice except to be brave.” “You are the strongest lady I have ever seen,” he whispered, raising his hand to tuck a hair strand behind my ear. I couldn't help but suck in a sharp breath of air as soon as the sparks of the mate bond erupted. I leaned into his touch. His lips parted. Did he notice that I liked his touch? “The queen told me you seemed hurt,” he said, lowering his voice a little. “Hmm, a little. He grabbed me a bit hard. It isn't anything compared to what he did before.” His eyes darkened. He didn't appear pleased with the news. “Let me see.” I unbuttoned my shirt so I could show him the bruises on my upper arm. They would fade with time, but at the moment they looked horrible. I saw his jaw clench. He was angry. “I'll be fine,” I whispered. “He has to be punished,” he said in between gritted teeth. I nodded my head. “I think you should investigate what happened to the previous owners of that farm. He blurted out something about killing someone. I doubt the nice couple just gave him that farm. I think he killed them. I wouldn't put him past murder.” Murder was a crime punishable by death. If he really killed them, he deserved to die. “I'll do everything in my power to find out.” He said, cupping my cheeks. “I promise.” A smile curled at my lips as I watched him leave. I knew he wouldn't leave a stone unturned. He would do everything to keep Drake away from us. How lucky I was to be mated with him. He was mine… all mine. “Blake!” He turned around. I walked briskly towards my mate. Mate… mine. Those words kept repeating in my head. With every stride I took towards him my heart soared. With a frown wrinkling his forehead he stepped towards me. “Is everything okay?” I didn't answer. I rushed right into his arms, locking my lips with his. Closing my eyes I savoured the feeling. The sparks, the thudding my heart in my chest and his scent… gosh why did he smell so good. He seemed shocked at first but then quickly wrapped his hands around me. I allowed him to deepen the kiss. I let my tongue dance with his. If it weren't a hospital room, I would have allowed him to undress me. By the time we were done, we were both panting. “Nina,” he whispered. “Blake,” I interrupted him. “I am ready.” A smile was about to curl on his lips, but he seemed to hesitate. “Ready?” He asked, almost scared to ask that question. I nodded. “I am ready for us. I accept the mate bond.” A broad grin spread across his face as he lifted me up and twirled around. After a long time, I giggled like a school girl. I felt the excitement of being loved running through my veins. He was so right for me. I should have trusted fate from the beginning. But who could blame me for having trust issues? “You know what? This is the best day of my life,” he said. “I got my girl.” I giggled. “Now put me down and go. You have a pending investigation, remember?” “Right,” he said, gently placing me on the ground. “I'll make sure he never reaches you and the girls ever again. Oh, and you will live with me in the second-command's wing of the castle from now on. You are not moving out.” “And dad?” I asked, raising a brow. He smiled. “Him too, of course. He is my family too.”
