Prologue
Have you ever read stories about growing up in a small town? They are mostly true. Well, depending on what side of the tracks you live. I won't get into the differences because no one's story is ever the same.
I had a normal childhood even though I was raised by a single mom. It was only us and my little sister. My father left years ago. He fell out of love with my mom and in love with a new woman. At the age of eight, it's hard to understand why your daddy would leave. As I grew older, I understood. He is just selfish. When my dad left, mom became our rock. She never let us know the pain her heart felt. Raising an eight year old and a five year old was difficult but she was strong. We survived!
Today is the last day of my freshman year at college. After months of only phone calls and facetalk, I will finally see my mom and sister. Going home makes me happy. I love being with my girls. They are the reason I'm trying to accomplish my dreams.
*Sorry the mobile number you have dialed has a mailbox that is full.*
I knew mom had two meetings today. I just wanted her to know I was on my way. Sending her a quick text, I let her know I'm leaving and will be home in four hours and that I love them.
We have this rule.... If leaving face to face, over the phone or through text, you always say you love them. You never know if it could be the last.
