CHAPTER FOUR - THE ELDERS

To become an Elder in the city you have to have been in a leader position during your life. You also had to have lost your mate and survived the loss, with your wolf also intact.

An elder old wolf, nothing special!

A lot do not survive the loss of a mate. The severance of half of your soul is extremely painful and the wolf will usually die with the loss of the soul part.

Then there is also the high chance of wolf madness setting in that drives a person crazy with blood lust.

When a mate passes the other half is taken to a cell for two weeks. If at the end of the week they survive with their wolf they go onto a list to become an Elder at the age of 100 or older.

Wolves need mates. Mates complete wolves.

If the wolf has died and no madness has set in, the person is prepared and sent to live in the human world.

If the madness has set in then the person is put down. They tell us it is two simple injections, one to put the person to sleep, and the next is a poison that stops the heart.

Elders survive the loss of a mate with their wolves intact. None have ever taken a second mate. They have cottages that are similar to the unmated males that are located in the forest by the Leaders cottages.

Last year we had to study the history of our Leaders and Elders. A long and boring lesson! In order from top we have the Alpha and his mate, then the Beta and his mate, the Gamma and his mate, then the Elders, then the Witches.

I sleep during school.

Alpha is Dominic Lanciny Fume is said to be a fair and just Alpha. The Alpha Mate Caroline Dee is said to be a bit snobbish, acting even higher ranked than she is. I do not know how that is possible!

Beta is Sandy Lee Trent and the Beta Mate is Sunny Mae.

Gamma is Doug Man Lender and the Gamma mate is Sugar Francis

Elder 1 Jamison Leen age 139 Beta mated to Faith who had her wolf disappear then tried to leave the city and died in the passage of the veil. Leen being accepted as an Elder was highly contested.

As I approached he looks me over and grabs my hands and pulls me in to scent me. “ You look beautiful my dear!” He holds my hand for a few more minutes with his eyes closed then he drops my hand and thanks me.

Elder 2 Axel Zead age 152 Gamma mated to Thellsa who died in delivery of their second pup. Pup did not survive. Surviving pup male named Ryan Duke Zead. Ryan left for his year in the human world and did not return.

Did not touch me but stared at my hair and asked me what color my wolf is and if she had any markings.

I answered the truth that she is white with a black star on her forehead.

Then he says I see, thank you.

I am the only white wolf, special I am! Yet I have to hide! Not fair!

Elder 3 Damion Teal age 215 Alpha mated to Zena who passed in a Alpha mate challenge that Damion refused to accept. He was heart broken, and almost did not survive the loss of his mate. If you stop to talk to him he will fill you with wonderful loving stories about his mate.

He took my hand, inhaled my scent, dropped my hand and with a tear in his eye nodded at me. My Zena had a citrus scent just like you. She also wore her hair long! Beautiful straight black hair that fell forever down her back.

Elder 4 Zachary Daie age 320 Beta mated to Gessika. Her manner of death was not reported. Of course the rumors are that he killed her.

He smiles warmly. Takes my hand and says I know your father well. Then he leans in scents me and immediately drops my hand and frowns.

His cold dark eyes dismiss me instantly! Thank you that will be all. The rapid change in his mood was unsettling.

A creeper! Darkness in him!

Elder 5 Jason Alexander age 408 and the oldest living wolf survivor of the human attack and the start of the city. Beta Mated to Jennifer who passed in delivery of their pup that was also lost.

He pulls me in for a hug and rubs his head into my neck scenting me and rubbing his scent on me scent marking me! What the hell! Why would he do that?

Eww! Not mate! Why scent mark?

When he pulled away he said my child you look like my mother and even have her scent! My mother was the last white wolf as I am sure you know. But alas she had no powers and died getting me on the last boat to the island! How lovely you are! If I were to look for another mate I would look for someone like you!

What did he say? Want to scent mother?

Elder 6 Samantha Marine Dame age 216 the only ever female Elder. Alpha mate to Alpha Lee Douglas Dame a very much loved Alpha pair that served as Alphas for 35 years.

Douglas passed in a human attack on the mainland 100 years ago. But it is rumored that he left the city and just did not come back.

Witnesses to Samantha’s bond break said that she seemed to not show much pain. However, she did not come back into society for twenty years.

Ohhh Anastasia! I’ve been waiting on you my dear child! She says with a warm smile. She pulls me in for a deep hug and says quietly Do not worry about Jason scent marking you! He’s just a bored old flirt looking to see if you would react! He’s actually too old to have any scent left!

He scented! Your nose is too old to work!

Haha you reacted beautifully my child! She pulls away and holds my hands with her eyes closed and says again ohhh you truly are a strong and special wolf! I look forward to getting to know you more, my child!

Then she lets me go and with a warm smile she nods me on my way!

Witch 1 - Talia Elemental of Land. She controls things to do with dirt like dirt walls, mud holes, dust storms.

Talia is about 425 years of age.

Witch 2 - Delia Elemental of Water. She controls things to do with water like floods, ice, total waves. Delia is about 436 years of age.

Witch 3 - Rena Elemental of Air. She controls things to do with air like wind storms, taking the breath from a person, removing the oxygen from a room. Rena is about 504 years of age.

Witch 4 - Gineva Elemental of Fire. She controls things to do with fire like fire storms, fire balls, and even lighting. Gineva is about 550 years of age.

Witch 5 - High Witch - Sundia Elemental of Nature. A Nature witch can control some of every element. With her powers she can read minds, heal the injured, grow a forest. Sundia is said to be over 600 years old.

Witches can live to be around a thousand years of age. But they are not very accurate at keeping up with their age. The time goes by differently for them.

A complete coven of witches like ours can do anything.Our witches have been working together for just over 400 years, since they were brought to the island at the beginning.

They never have Fated Mates but on occasion will take a chosen mate. Sometimes a child will be born of the union. The male is expected to raise the child rather it be male, or female. Till it is of age for the dorms.

However there is no child born from our witches on record in the city.
