Alice, a young lady of 20 years who travelled to the states a few years back to make a living for herself in order to support her folks back home, was suddenly given the greatest shock of her lifetime. One day as she had returned home from another busy day at the office, she turned on the television to watch some news when she received a phone call. “Hello, are you miss Alice?”, the lady on the other side asked politely. “Yes, and who might you be?”, Alice replied. “I’m afraid I have some terrible news for you. Please remain calm as you listen…”, the lady pointed out as she then received the tragic news. When Alice heard what she said, she immediately dropped the phone as one could faintly hear the lady on the phone repeatedly asking if Alice was there. An earthquake had occurred in her hometown which had led to the deaths of hundreds, including her parents. She immediately dropped down to her knees and started sobbing loudly. Her parents, who had raised and supported her throughout her life, had been crushed to death in their own home as the earthquake took place when most of the victims were asleep. She couldn’t believe what she had been told and confirmed through various news channels till the confirmation of the sad news finally sunk in. Like any other human, the news broke her and gravely affected her performance at work to the point where her bosses couldn’t take her conduct anymore and decided to lay her off. However, Alice was fine with it, since the reason why she was working hard in the first place was gone and she would never see them again. One night, as Alice was returning from the supermarket in her car, a kid suddenly jumped out of the side of the road as she almost ran him over. She immediately got out of the car and rushed over to the kid. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”, Alice asked in a panicked tone. The kid slowly got up and just looked at Alice. The boy looked scared as he kept looking over his shoulder all while shivering. Alice realized the child was in hospital clothes and had a few scars. As Alice was looking around to see if the boy was being chased, she finally noticed that the bumper had been dented but the kid was perfectly fine. “Were you being chased by someone? Do you want me to call your parents?”, Alice asked, trying to make head or tails of the situation. “Please… help me”, the boy said. At the moment, all Alice could think of was to get this kid to safety as she picked up the boy, placed him in the car and immediately drove off to her apartment. As Alice sped off with the kid, a tall man appeared from the roadside and stared in the distance at the car that was almost out of sight. The man chuckled lightly and walked away with the gentle passing breeze of the night.
