Chapter 1

“So, you’re telling me that this kid says he was born and raised in another world full of monsters who were planning on using him to hurt us, but then he refused and somehow made his way back here. I am getting this right?”, a lady in a white coat spoke to Alice and the boy as she turned to face them after putting down some notes in her file. “Yes, I mean it sounds crazy but that’s what the kid keeps telling me. I mean I don’t get it myself”, Alice replied after hearing what the lady said. “What’s his name?”, the lady asked. “Uhh Lexus, he said his name is Lexus”, Alice replied. “Any last name?”. “I can’t pronounce it. It’s crazy, I know, but can you help me, Liz? I found this kid after I almost hit him with my car in the middle of the night and I couldn’t just leave him there”, Alice spoke with a bit of desperation in her voice. “Fine, you also mentioned that he doesn’t recall any parents or relatives as his only memories are…sigh, of him living and being brought up by uhh monsters. When he escaped from there, he was then caught by scary men who wanted to run experiments on him as he managed to run away until they found him. You could write a book with this”, Liz went over the notes again as she couldn’t help but add the comment. “Yeah, that’s right. It’s messed up”, Alice said as she couldn’t help but look at Lexus who still had the frightened look on his face. “Have you tested him for any drugs or strong narcotics that could potentially leave you in, well, his current state?”, Liz asked. “Well, I did run some tests before coming here and they couldn’t detect anything in his system. In fact, he’s very healthy”, Alice replied. “Okay, in all my years as a medical assistant this has been the worst case of brain malfunction I have ever had to diagnose. Looks like he has mixed up parts of an illusionary world into reality and hence this jumbled up state he’s in”, Liz gave her opinion. “Okay, so what should I do?”, Alice asked. “Well, you can take care of him till the kid finally straightens up all the bad information locked in his brain till he finally readjusts to reality. It’s a hell of a job, believe me, but nothing you can’t handle right”, Liz answered. “Yeah, I get it but…”. “RIGHT?”, Liz asked once more with a pissed off grin when she cut Alice off. “I understand, thanks for your time, Liz”, Alice said as she left with Lexus. The moment the two left the office, Liz couldn’t help but to chuckle. “Well damn”. That night, after Alice brought the kid home, she changed his clothes and fed him before asking him about how he ended up where he was that night, only for him to tell him the story about another world and being raised by monsters. Alice was convinced that the boy must have hit his head or something and so decided to take him to a hospital that her friend Liz works at for assistance. But that was even more than they could handle, so she had to call it quits and take him back home. “So, I just have to help him re-adjust to reality, that’s not so bad”, Alice spoke to herself as she and the kid entered her apartment. That evening she prepared a delicious meal for the boy, who ate with tears flowing from his eyes as Alice couldn’t help but to think, “What if what the kid is saying is the truth, and that there’s another world filled with monsters? No, we’re not doing that!”. Alice straightened her thoughts as she watched Lexus finish his meal. “Will I be safe here?”, Lexus asked. “Of course, dear. Big sister here will take care of you. Those monsters and bad men won’t be able to lay a finger on you”, Alice did her best to comfort the kid. “But they’re way more powerful than you”, Lexus said with a straight face. Alice felt like she was gonna pop a vein as she gently answered, “I’m sure I’ll be able to do something about it”. “If they’re so powerful then how the hell did you survive?”, Alice thought as she continued to converse with Lexus in hopes of understanding him more. As the two continued to live together, they gradually bonded together as Alice decided to become his legal guardian. A whole year had quietly passed away as the monsters and bad men that Lexus was afraid of never showed up. Life was good as Lexus could speak more freely now and Alice also did her best to teach him whatever she could about life in the states. When Alice felt the time was right, she finally enrolled Lexus in high school in order to give him some more education than she could currently offer. When the day came, Alice took Lexus to the school of her choosing as the two went to meet with the head principal. “Good morning and please have a seat”, the lady welcomed Alice and Lexus. “Good morning, thank you”, Alice replied as she and Lexus both helped themselves to the seats available. “My name is Linda and I’m the head principal. So, you must be Lexus’ guardian?”. “Yes, I’m Alice and I’d like to enroll him in your school”, Alice answered. “Well, there were no issues with your application, but I usually prefer to meet the kid and parents before finalizing the process. He looks like a good kid”, Linda spoke, looking at Lexus, who was feeling very nervous. “Yeah, he is”, Alice said while rubbing the shoulders of Lexus to calm him down. “Is it okay if I come here?”, Lexus asked after calming down a bit. “Of course, dear, our school here offers the best in terms of education, the teachers and other students here are all friendly and caring as I’m sure we’ll be able to help you grow even further, as for safety, well we’ve got you more than covered as we have security personnel and surveillance cameras in operation 24/7. I’m sure you’ll have fun too”, Linda answered with a sweet voice. “Okay”, Lexus said as she nodded to Alice, who smiled back. “Okay, so that finalizes the process as I hereby welcome Lexus to True North High”, Linda said as she got up to shake hands with Alice. “Oh, thank you so much. He’ll report first thing tomorrow ma’am”, Alice spoke with a delighted tone as she shook her hand and left the office with Lexus. Before she left the school grounds, she was given a pamphlet which stated all the necessary items that Lexus would need. She then went to buy all the items on the list as they two then headed back home. In the car, Lexus asked a question which startled Alice. “Do they teach you how to fight in school?”. “What? No. I mean there are clubs like the boxing club, karate and the likes, but it’s only a place to have fun and learn, so don’t worry about that, okay”, Alice answered. “Oh okay”, Lexus went quiet again. “I can’t believe I’m sending a kid to school, this is exciting”, Alice definitely had fun buying all the stuff that Lexus would need as it made her recall the time when she was about to go to high school. She was this shy and weird kid who just couldn’t fit in. Alice chuckled slightly at the thought as they reached home. That evening, Alice finished all the preparations and then prepared supper. After eating, Alice made sure Lexus was asleep since she didn’t want him to be sleep-derived since tomorrow was going to be a big day for him. The next day came without a hitch, as Alice took Lexus to school after they both had breakfast. Before leaving, Alice made sure that Lexus had taken whatever he needed in order to make sure that everything was okay. Alice then drove Lexus to True North high but before dropping him off she had a word with him. “Lexus, this is a very big step for you. You’re going to meet a whole lot of kids your age and things are going to get hectic, but don’t let that overwhelm you. You must be strong and remember not to freak out. Always remember what I taught you and you’ll be fine. Also make sure to make lots of friends, okay”. “Yes ma’am, I will. Have a great day”, Lexus said as he put on his backpack and got down. “Aww you too sweetie, have fun!”, Alice shouted out of the car as she then drove off with a smile. “Okay, school. Let’s get this over with,” Lexus thought as he entered the building through the main entrance.
