Damien POV:
The priestesses were doing their nightly prayers to the Moon Goddess when I arrived. They bowed to me in greeting and I bowed back in respect. "Offering for the Moon Goddess?" Asked a young maiden, she was dressed identical to the rest of them, all in white dresses that covered one shoulder and flowed down them like water. They all looked ethereal, some believe it is a gift they receive for choosing to devote their lives to the Moon Goddess. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a silver medallion. It was a Moon coin and the only thing ever accepted in the temple. You couldn't do anything with it but it was thought to have magical qualities or even grant wishes. I would wish for my mate to be someone else if I could or even to know what the Moon Goddess was thinking when she paired us together.
"Is the high priestess here?" I asked and maiden bowed and gestured to dark oak doors, "go through," she said and continued to walk away. The smell of incense was all over but it felt peaceful here. There was a kind of serenity that you probably could not find any where else in the world. I walked towards the heavy doors and knocked but the oak doors opened on it's own. I continued inside and a young woman with silver hair sat with her legs crossed and her back straight, "welcome young Alpha," I bowed my head to her before approaching and sitting down and mirroring her. "You're here because you have questions," she said, her voice ringing through my mind. "Yes, I just don't know how to ask them," I said nervously, "you know what to ask." Her all knowing vibe was making me super nervous.
I took a deep breath, "does the Moon Goddess make a mistake with mates?" I ask and she smiled at me, "The Moon Goddess is not human, she does not make mistakes." "Okay, uhmmm... let's see, has the Moon Goddess ever mated a brother and sister?" She smiled again, "She has, long ago, except they were not brother and sister." She was confusing me now, "what do you mean?" I asked confused, "I mean exactly what I said." She smiled again. "How can two people be related but not related?" I asked and she smiled at me, "young Alpha, you have a long way to go if you must ask these questions." This was frustrating, I needed answers but I wasn't getting any. "Is there anything else you can tell me?" I asked, "your mate is the one chosen for you by the Goddess herself. You will only get one." There was a sudden coldness in the room with the last bit of her sentence and I couldn't help but shiver, I nodded to her once more. "Thank you." She smiled and continued on in her blissfulness.
Well, the library it is then. The temple hall had cleared and it was just serene and empty now. I walked down the stairs and out of the temple. The priestess left me with more questions than she did answers and my head was throbbing from the backwards and forwards. I wanted nothing more than to go to sleep but I knew I couldn't rest, I had three days to figure this out and save Olivia from being married off like some pedigree horse. However, that wasn't the only reason. It had been two years and in those two years I still could not forget her face or even the way she smelled. Getting hit with her scent tonight just proved to me that my memory didn't even hold a candle to her.
I headed out to take the route past the school. That would be the quickest. I jogged up hill, when I noticed some of the lights were on, which was strange. I don't remember the school leaving the lights on at night. Regardless, I jogged up to hear some hard breathing and her scent. My palms were sweaty and my heart was thrumming against my chest, afraid of what I might see happening.
Each step felt like my shoes had been filled with lead. I looked out at the scene before me. Olivia and Micheal were training, I knew they were training but the way the sweat glistened and dripped off her body, her skin was flushed from exertion and I wanted that. I wanted to be the person making her sweat like that. Then Micheal pinned her against the wall and I let out an involuntary growl.
"Get your hands off her!" I commanded and immediately, Micheal backed off. Olivia looked scared at the interruption. I didn't mean to scare her. f**k! "Damien," greeted Micheal with a smile, he bowed to me and even though I wanted to rip his head off for being that close to her, I bowed back and tried to remain cool. "We were just training," said Olivia, her voice was like a melody to me and my whole being itched to hold her close to me. "Let's go! Mom is worried sick!" I lied and she hung her head as she followed me. We left Micheal standing there awkwardly as we walked down together.
