THE MEET
THE MEET.
It saddens me that this is a typical story of boy meets younger girl, boy takes her virginity, girl falls madly in love with boy type of story but hey, God works in mysterious ways. And f**k you John Green.
I’m a little city girl from Lusaka who grew up too quick for my family's liking. I blame Tumblr, it taught me way too much at a young age. I honestly had no business coding at age 12. After living in an Arab country for nearly 5 years, moving back to Zambia was difficult. I went from standing out in every place or room I walked into to, to being 8/10 black people in the room. I went from standing out in every place or room I walked into, to being 8/10 black people in the room. Bummer, am I right?
A day after I moved back, I went to hang out with my friend, Alina. We had been friends since we were about 6-7 years old. I was now 14 going on 15, I hadn’t seen her in years so I was proper ecstatic. There was an event that had skating and dance tournaments for youth all around Lusaka. We all gathered, ate, danced and skated. Well, I just ate and watched. I was so happy to be home.
Among them, was Jacob, 19 going on 20. I like to skip this part of the story because I hardly remember meeting him this day, but according to him, THIS was the day.
For Jacob’s sake, we met February 19th 2013.
After our first short meeting, I ran into him again in August. August 7th to be specific, It was Alina’s birthday. This time, I met him and our souls immediately were familiar with each other. It felt like I had known him for a hundred years. We shared a cheeky smile. We could both feel it, but we didn’t know what it was. Our connection seemed so easy, we both didn’t even bother exchanging numbers. It was if we knew we would meet again.
Only 3 weeks later, just like in the movies, we met again at a phone shop at the mall. I cannot make this up, both our phone chargers had stopped working and we went to the same shop in search of a cable. It was in that mall that we knew it had to be for a reason that we had met. We eventually exchanged numbers and as they say, the rest of it was reallu f*****g history.
