Chapter 12
I’d just gotten home from work when my telephone started ringing. I almost let the call go to voice mail since I had to pee, but when I looked at the caller ID and saw my cousin Christopher’s name and number, I decided to take it. Christopher and I didn’t speak often, so I was surprised to receive a call from him. He and I hadn’t spoken since last Thanksgiving when he, his family, and his parents came to my mother’s house for dinner. As I picked up the receiver, I worried that someone in the family had fallen ill or died.
“Hello?” I asked hesitantly.
“Brian? It’s Christopher.”
“Hi. How are you?”
“Fine.”
I asked how his wife and kids were doing and he gave me an update. After a few minutes of family chit chat, he got to the real reason for his call.
