My Husband's Mistress Is Pregnant?
CHAPTER 1 : My Husband's Mistress Is Pregnant?
EVELYN
“Benedict, please. I understand. I promise I'll do better.”
My husband tightened his grip on my wrist and dragged me through the doors of the pleasure parlour.
My feet scraped the floor as he pushed me forward, the moment I stepped inside, the music grew louder, and the overpowering scent of perfume filled my nose. Women in revealing clothes danced around tables crowded with drunken men.
I tried to pull my hand free.
“Please, Benedict. We can talk about this at home.”
“Shut up.”
His voice was cold enough to make me fall silent.
He shoved me onto a velvet couch and turned toward the woman approaching him.
“Watch,” he ordered.
I stared at him, my heart sinking.
“Benedict—”
“I said watch, Evelyn.”
I raised my head slowly and watched as he welcomed her with open arms.
She pushed him back, pressed herself against him, and kissed his cheek.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I watched her place my husband's head on her chest.
“Whatever I did this time, I'm sorry!” I raised my voice above the music. “Please, we can talk about this at home.”
He rolled his eyes as she kissed his neck “Shut up before I hit you”
I swallowed hard as my chest rose quickly
"Why are you doing this to me?" I asked.
Benedict loosened his tie and glanced as more women in revealing silk clothes approached our table.
"Do you know how long I've waited for you to give me an heir?"
My throat tightened.
"I know. I'm trying. The healer said—"
"The healer said." He mimicked, stroking his jaw.
The woman beside him laughed softly as she touched his shoulder. Benedict didn't even look at me, his breathing became uneven as he moaned gently.
I lowered my eyes, wishing I could disappear into the chair.
"Look at me," he ordered.
I shook my head, holding the tears in desperately
“Look at me, Evelyn!” he shouted, drawing a few curious glances from nearby tables.
When I finally raised my face, he was watching me with a cold smile.
"Perhaps seeing what other women can give me will remind you of what you're failing to do."
My chest ached.
I had spent months following the healer's instructions, drinking bitter medicines and praying that one day I would carry his child.
And this was how he rewarded me.
He wanted me to sit there and watch him entertain other women. He wanted me to understand that, in his eyes, I was useless because I couldn't give him an heir.
“I wished Winifred were here”, I mouthed silently.
Winifred was my only friend. We had grown up together and been raised like sisters.
Some months ago I had told her about Benedict's recent attitude and how he treated me or sometimes made me watch him with other women.
But she didn't believe he would do such a thing to me, she had also advised me to see a healer for my infertility, specifically the one she helped me find, saying she trusted her and she wouldn't give me anything to hurt me
Reality crashed into me as Benedict kicked me lightly on my leg, forcing me to raise my head up.
The woman curled herself to him and whispered something in his ear, pointing to booths at the left.
I watched as his expression changed, then he smiled as he glanced at her, then waved her away.
"Don't stand there looking useless. Go and get us some beer."
For a moment, I thought he was speaking to someone else.
"Me?”
He gave me an impatient look. "Do you see anyone else standing here?"
I swallowed the words I wanted to say.
I was his wife. Not his servant. Yet there I was, being ordered around while he sat comfortably with other women.
Without another word he looked at me with disgust and followed the woman walking slowly behind her
For a second I watched them disappear into the dark empty room, then I pushed myself to my feet and turned toward the bar.
My legs felt unsteady and my heart pounded heavily in my chest . I hated this place. I hated the music, the laughter, and the women surrounding my husband. Most of all, I hated that I was still afraid of upsetting him.
“Hey, sweetheart. Where are you going with that big ass?"
A man sitting near the bar grinned at me as I passed by.
I pretended not to hear him and continued walking.
"Don't ignore me. I'm talking to you." He leaned in closer trying to touch me.
I turned, disgusted as the strong stench of alcohol flooded my nose "Then find someone who wants to listen."
His friend burst out laughing on his chair.
Ignoring them, I moved past them as quickly as my legs could move but before another man reached toward my backside.
I stepped away sharply.
"Don't touch me!" I screamed
"Easy, baby. We're only playing." He gave a croaked smile .
"I'm married.” I shot angrily
The men exchanged looks before bursting into laughter.
"Married?" one repeated. "Then what is your husband doing over there with all those women?"
My face burned.
"That's none of your business."
"Maybe not," he said, leaning back in his chair. "But you should know one of them is carrying his child."
I froze.
“What?”
The man chuckled. “You heard me. Your husband has a pregnant mistress, and you're still begging him to love you.”
I stared at him, unable to make sense of his words.
"You're lying." I forced out.
He shrugged.
"Go ask your husband, he's right there f*****g another one right now”
