CHAPTER 1: LOVER’S BETRAYAL
Camila Looking at the brown envelope containing my medical condition report for the tenth time, I couldn't help but sigh heavily as my shoulders fell. It was clear that I had been born with this disease, as I had relied on medication every day of my life just to survive. However, it appears that my constant use of drugs will soon cease, and I will be reuniting with my parents in heaven in three years. Despite my reluctance, I do not wish to die. My shoulders fell and tears fell from my eyes. I began to sob as I clenched my hands against my chest. It is truly painful to realize that my time on earth is limited. It is heartbreaking to know that I have not accomplished even half of my dreams before my inevitable death. Why me? Why couldn't it have been someone else? I muttered to myself, frustration building and I ripped the envelope to shreds and scattered them on the floor, stomping on them in tears. Exhausted, I slouched in my chair, resting my head on the table and eventually drifting off to sleep. Suddenly, I felt a soft tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see Kara, my colleague, standing in front of me with her usual smile. "Happy three-year anniversary, Mila!" She exclaimed, shaking my shoulder. "Thank you," I replied with a smile as she walked away to serve the rest of the customers. Confusion crossed my face as I tried to process what she had said. Then, in a flash, it hit me - today was my three-year anniversary with Leo, my boyfriend. I couldn't believe that the day I had been planning for months had slipped my mind so easily. Instantly, Leo’s image flashed through my mind as I could see his eyes sparkle like diamonds in the sunlight, radiating a joy that cannot be contained. His smile, once a gentle curve, now blooms into a bright, beaming grin that lights up the world around me. His every gesture, every movement, made me fell harder for him. Leo truly embodies the essence of a prince charming, as depicted in numerous books and movies. His love for me is indescribable, and he consistently demonstrated it in various ways. I considered myself extremely lucky and will not allow any medical reports to overshadow the significance of my anniversary, a day that brings me immense joy just thinking about it. I was immediately drawn to my phone when it vibrated, and I answered right away when I saw it was my best friend Sia calling. "Happy anniversary, girlfriend," Sia giggled at the other end. "And don't forget, you promised to introduce me to your ghost boyfriend today," I teased, laughing uncontrollably. She couldn't help but join me in laughing, "Yes, crocky head, I never forgot," she said with a mist of laughter, and I could tell she rolled her eyes. "So, tell me, how are you?" she asked. I let out a heavy sigh. "I know I'm supposed to be one of the happiest people on earth, but the doctor's report I received today was so disheartening. I have just three years to live because of my heart disease," I said, tears streaming down my face again. I quickly wiped them away. "I don't know if I should tell Leo about it," I confided in her, knowing she was my best friend. She let out a soft sigh at the other end of the line. "I would advise you not to tell him, because no man would want to be with a woman whose days are numbered," she said. I instantly saw the logic in her words. I have seen similar situations in novels and movies where the lover left the girl because she had cancer. But I had faith that Leo was different, that he would accept me because he loved me. "And Leo is no exception," she added, shattering my last glimmer of hope. "Just hold on, don't tell him, and don't ruin this beautiful relationship you both share." She advised. “Okay.” I mumbled, agreeing with what she said. “Don't worry. Your boo and I have a surprise for you when you get back home tonight," she said quickly, bursting into laughter. "Wait, what? Sia..." I started to say before she abruptly ended the call, not allowing me to finish. However, I heard a familiar voice in her background, sounding a lot like Leo. It wasn't surprising, since they had been spending a lot of time together lately, with him helping Sia with her programming. Without hesitation, I gathered my things and prepared to head home. I wanted to surprise my man as well, so that when he arrived, we could both make the anniversary memorable. I left the café and hailed a cab, which took me directly to Merry Land, where I purchased a beautiful wristwatch and a matching couple's necklace. The total cost of the gifts was $500, which was quite a lot from my life savings, but I didn't mind because they were worth it. The cab driver who had been waiting for me drove me home, and I was looking forward to preparing dinner for the celebration. I was filled with excitement, and my glowing appearance couldn't hide it. The cab driver noticed and asked why I was so happy, and I shared my reason with him. He wished me well. He eventually stopped in front of my gate, I settled the fare, and he drove away, waving goodbye. Holding my carefully wrapped gift, I started walking elegantly towards my apartment. The loud music coming from my apartment grabbed my attention, making me wonder if Leo had returned. However, I was surprised that the music was so loud, and he usually doesn't disturb the neighbors. As I approached and tried to open the door, I realized it was locked, which had never happened before. Knock! Knock! "Babe, I'm back. Can you open the door?" I called out to him, knowing he probably couldn't hear me over the loud music. I took my spare key from my handbag and unlocked the door, stepping inside. I was taken aback when I saw the state of my house- it looked like someone had ransacked it. Champagne bottles and glasses were scattered on the floor, along with expensive men's clothing and belongings. There was even an unwrapped gift and a half-eaten cake on the floor. I was shocked and confused, trying to figure out what had happened in my absence. My eyes landed on the couch, and I was jaws-dropped to see a woman's blue underwear that didn't belong to me. Glancing over to the opposite end of the couch, I was shocked to see a red dress that clearly wasn't mine. "Unbelievable! He's cheating on me," I muttered bitterly. I quickly ran into my bedroom and tried to open the door, only to find that it was locked from the inside, just like the main door. "This i***t, really planned this," I muttered to myself, as my breath fastened; trying to prepare myself for the worst. I hurried back to my living room, grabbed my spare key, and unlocked the door before pushing it open. There he was, slowly thrusting his small d**k into her p***y, in sync with the music playing in my bedroom. "Yes, daddy, just like that," the b***h moaned as he hit the right spots. That voice sounded familiar. I could recognize the owner even if it came from an ash. Sia! A deceitful liar and a traitor. Tears welled up and streamed uncontrollably, as I covered my mouth not to make a sound. I sobbed, my weak heart broke into tiny pieces at such a disgusting sight as I watched my best friend and lover engaged in passionate s*x, as they were both covered in sweat. The two traitors were so absorbed in their s*x-making that they didn't notice me. "This must be the amazing gift she mentioned on the phone," I thought, feeling heartbroken.
