Tyra and her family travel to the Rudha pack in Russia. A strange encounter with the pack quickly turns into an arranged marriage. Tyra’s life is hanging in the balance of peace with the Rudha pack, keeping her alive only through courting. Preface!
Long ago the God of Lightning, Zeus, from Greek mythology had cursed Lycaon. Lycaon was known for disrespecting the Gods, cruel and evil. On one fateful day, Lycaon served a meal to Zeus with flesh of human as a test to the great god. Zeus being all powerful was disgusted by the act Lycaon had committed. In his fit of rage he destroyed Lycaon’s palace and turned him into a beast. Zeus cursed any descendent of Lycaon to be half human, half wolf, forever controlled by the full moon. Each month losing control of their own minds and turning into the beasts they truly are. Lost in a split mind of two different voices telling the body what to do. There was only one way to learn to control the animal side of the cursed. One way that others seemed to kill every cycle that they made their way to the earth. A wolf that didn’t have a wolf to turn into, but could shift into any being that it wanted. Changing into people of any shape or size with a single touch of their finger. They had control over the changing, they could help the wolves become tamed and live normal lives without the need of a full moon disrupting their cycle. No matter the power they possessed, wolves always found a way to murder the savior in cold blood. As time has gone on, the wolves have lost the understanding of how special these wolves were. They have lost their understanding of what the call of the mimic really was. Young children sat around on the forest floor gawking at me standing in front of them in silence. Blinking their eyes in fascination or boredom of the story that I had shared. I stuffed my hands behind my back looking around at all the other kids, feeling the heat rise in my cheek of embarrassment. “Geek!” A boy yelled from the crowd pointing a finger at me as the others began to laugh out. I narrowed my eyes at the boy that I knew as Tobias Volkov. I fisted my hands at my side as the flashing red filled me to the brim till steam rolled out of ears. The teacher waving her hands to calm the children laughing hysterically, shushing them repeated, but not doing much to stop the scene. I marched up to Tobias that was clutching his stomach as he laughed till he started crying. I curled my fist into the front of his blue shirt with a tight lip smirk on my face. Tobias stopped laughing along with the others as his eyes started to bug out of his head in fear. I lifted my other fist and without hesitation I punched him in the face while he tried to block my blow. I jumped on top of him repeating my action until someone pulled me from the top of him. “Tyra!” The teacher pulled on me while I kicked and flailed, Tobias scurrying back holding his bloodied face. “That serves you right, Tobias, go home. Tyra, we will speak with your parents about your actions today.” “Hump, he started it,” I crossed my arms over my chest with a pouting face of disapproval. Five years later, age thirteen. “Tyra!” Mrs. Raphline pulled me from the top of a girl with red wavy hair in a learning class. “You can’t attack people!” “She started it!” I punched at the air in anger that this girl was going to get away with picking on a disabled pup. Taking me to the office where my parents waited with a look of disappointment and anger that I hadn’t controlled myself. I slouched down hiding myself from the glares from my mother that never seemed to like me to begin with. My father begged the teachers to let me stay longer, explaining that I was still young and I would figure it out. Five years later, age eighteen. “Mr. And Mrs. Eriksen, I’m sorry to call you in today. Tyra has been kicked out from her class today for starting another fight in her class,” Mrs. Raphline folded her fingers on the mahogany desk in front of her. “We feel that it may be time that she is removed from our classes and taken back home.” Both of my parents stared at me as I slouched in my black chair, arms crossed, and the rolling of my eyes. My mother scoffed with the shake of her head, pushing from her chair not able to look at me any longer. I peeked through my brows at my father seeing his set jaw and deep glare of disappointment. Inside of his eyes I could also see worry for my well being, the misunderstanding of where they had gone wrong in my growth. My stomach knotting in hate to see my father so disappointed in me, his only heir. He stood from his chair not able to look at me any longer as he stormed out of the office to follow my mother. I closed my eyes with a loud sigh and barely glancing at Mrs. Raphline before grabbing my bag and running out of the door. My legs moved as quickly as I could go, racing after my father to apologize for something that wasn’t my fault. “Dad,” I quietly called running after him while the other kids glanced at me. “Dad,” I run up next to him to take his hand in an attempt to get him to listen to me. “Dad, you don’t understand, she-“ “I don’t care what she did, Tyra, I care about what you did,” he turned to me with his voice raised. “You hit another in the face, you have tarnished the Eriksen family name with your constant fighting! You have dishonored us,” his voice quiets as I shrink back at his harsh words. “We are going home and we will punish you according to your actions.” My father turned from me, straightening his black jacket out before continuing his walk to the boats. I looked down at the ground with the feeling of all eyes on me, the weight of the world pushing down on me. I glanced up to see all the kids around had been watching my public humiliation. I turned around to see Tobias standing with a group of his friends as they laughed to each other. I tugged on my jacket over my head, tightening it down so no one could see me. Stuffing my hands into my pockets and covering my nose with the zipper part of my jacket. I looked around as my steps got quicker until I broke out into a full sprint of embarrassment and shame. I never recovered from that day, forever haunted by my aggressive nature that seemed to boil inside until I couldn’t hold it any longer. Leaving here gave me the time and the space to learn of who and what I was. I wasn’t wolf, I was the mimic.
