CHAPTER ONE

Razel was on her hospital bed when the door suddenly opened. The hot-womanizer attorney of town had come to visit her. She rolled her eyes. She doesn't care if she saw her or not. She hates her gut. "Should you say thank you?" Atty. Yu smiled. "Should you cover your face?" she rolled her eyes. Atty. Yu chuckled. "Still feisty." "Still a womanizer jerk." "Uh, excuse me, I am not a womanizer." "You're excused." Razel rolled her eyes again. "Cows can fly." Atty. Yu shook her head then sat on the chair next to Razel. "How are you feeling?" "I was feeling better earlier," she smiled, then looked at Atty. Yu with a sour face. "Then you came." "Why do you hate me that much?" "Because lawyers are liars." "I am not like that." Atty. Yu defended herself. "Not everyone is a liar." "Then why protect a criminal?" "Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, you know that." Atty. Yu sighed. "Then the court wasn't fair." "Why do you hate the justice system so badly?" "Maybe because you work for them." she smiled and rolled her eyes. "Leave." Atty. Yu didn't have a choice. She stood up then stole a glance at Razel. "I'll get going. Take care of yourself." Razel didn't say a word, not until she opened the door to leave. "Thank you for saving me. I appreciate it." That leaves Atty. Yu had a sweet smile on her face before she went to the parking lot and hopped in to her car to go to work. "Looks like you're in a good mood." Atty. Ramirez, Geneva Yu's friend. "What happened today?" "Nothing." she smiled, "You're one of the hello cold-blooded people at work, and now I am seeing you smile, and you answered me with nothing?" Atty. Erich Ramirez said. "Come one Gene, what happened? Who made you smile like an i***t?" "Shut up." Atty. Yu shook her head. "The files from the last trial that I handled, are they in my office now?" "Yes, I already reviewed it before putting it on your desk." Gene raised his brow. "You know what I feel when someone touches my things." "Sorry bro, but I'm your partner for that case. You can't do anything." Gene sighed. "Found unusual?" "Yep." "Spill it." "Senator Agoncillo was the head of the syndicate and the reason why we couldn't put him inside the prison was because he was protected by the government," Erich said. "Anything more than that? I already saw that information in the last trial." "And Senator Agoncillo had an illegitimate child." "Anything else?" "That is the heir of his illegal business and will also join their crew in politics." Gene got pissed at what Erich said. "That son of a b***h!" she hissed. "And I also got something." Erich said, but Gene saw that she was hesitant. "What is it?" "The Agoncillo's are the roots of prostitution in the town." Gene was stunned. "And they had already been doing this for years. They had a lot of victims according to the investigation." "Then why can't we put them behind bars?!" "Officers, other lawyers and judges are always shut by money, Gene. You know money can buy anything." "Disgrace!" "Calm down." "Don't disturb me. I'll be working on those documents until I find a clue on how I can put them behind bars." she clenched her fist. "You know how dangerous it is, Gene. You're putting your life at stake." "How about the innocent people that they ruined? That they took just for their freaking business? I can't live with that, Erich. I can't live a peaceful life knowing that I can do something to put even a little justice to them and I didn't." Erich sighed. "I understand. I'm just worried about our safety." "You already knew that when we took law, our one foot was already on the grave." I can't keep this going, justice will be served. Razel was out for a walk to the hospital. She's already going to be discharged today. Stefan and their friends are just fixing the papers, and they are pulling some string, so I can go out without any trace. They wouldn't want my family to find me. I also don't want that. I can't go back to that hell. Not anymore. "Why are you here?" Razel saw Atty. Yu is walking towards her when she's peacefully sitting on a bench on the garden of the hospital. "What are you doing here again?" "Visiting you." "You don't have to." "I am worried." Razel didn't respond. Atty. Yu sighed. "When I heard you scream, I got panicked. Good thing I didn't sleep in the office that night. I don't know what could've happened if I hadn't come on time." "Why are you blaming yourself now? I thought you were going to boast about yourself again," she laughed. "I was worried, Razel. I was worried about you." Razel saw the concern in her eyes. But from her perspective, this is just Atty. Yu's tactic to get her inside of her house, on her bed. "You can't tie me to your bed just because you saved me, Geneva." Razel stood up. "I'm not like those girls who are easily fluttered, or you can easily pull and hook up with them and when you're done you're going to leave them hanging." "I'm not that kind of person." her expression darkened. "Don't play with me." Razel tried to smile. "I'm not one of your toys, Atty. Yu. Leave my peaceful life alone." Atty. Geneva Yu was sitting on her swivel chair thinking about what Razel said to her. She's still wondering what she did to make her despise her that much, well, except because she's a lawyer that Razel hated the most. "What did lawyers do to you?" she's really confused and at the same time curious about why Razel hates them so much. Her phone then rang, and she immediately answered it when she saw that it was from her mom. "Hello, Ma. How are you?" she smiled. "I'm good. How about you?" her mother asked on the other line. "I'm doing fine. Just working on some serious case." "Geneva-" "Ma, I know what you are going to say." Atty. Yu sighed. "Ma, I love my work. I want to help innocent people and bring justice to them. Please don't make me choose between this path and the path you want me to walk, because you know that I would always choose this path. Protecting innocent people, and protecting their rights as equal." She heard her mother sigh. "I'm just worried about your safety. And you really like butting heads with big and dangerous people. You know I don't want you to go home inside a coffin." "I know, Ma," she said. She couldn't promise her that she wouldn't end up like that because she knew well what hell she took. "Just please believe in me and support me on the path I choose." "I could never understand and would never accept the path you choose, but you can always come home when you feel it." "Thank you, Ma." "Oh, by the way. How's your love life?" she heard the sudden change of mood of her mother. "Is there someone making your heart flutter already?" "None, Ma." "Oh come on, Geneva! You're almost in your 40s, and you haven't settled down yet!" "Ma, I'm busy at work." "How about you meet the heir of the Chan Family?" "No, Ma. I'm not interested in some guy please." "Fine. But if you haven't introduced someone at the end of this year, you don't have any choice but to settle down with someone that the family choose for you. You already know the agreement." "Yes, Ma" she sighed. "I have to go, Ma. I want to rest for a while." "Okay. Bye. Call me okay? Love you" "Okay, Ma. Love you too." When the call ended, Atty. Yu couldn't help but to massage her head. Her family wasn't aware of her s****l orientation, and she knew it would be difficult for her. What would be their reaction if they suddenly found out that I am a lesbian? That would be a mess.
