Lilith’s Background
Lilith was born into a middle class family who loved her more than anything. Her mother, Suzanne, wanted nothing more than to have a child of her own. She and her husband, John, could never have their own child because Suzanne was infertile. They had lived in Boonville since they were children and had decided it was the perfect place to raise their daughter. They went through an adoption agency from a local, larger city.
They found a woman who’s story touched their hearts. She was running from a domestic violence situation and was afraid to bring her child into the whole mess. She was healthy, and wanted a better life for her child and was willing to give it up for adoption. Suzanne and John didn’t know what the baby’s gender would be until it was born but they were perfectly fine with that as long as they got their baby.
When they realized it was going to be a girl, they were more than happy. Mothers have the chance to take their children back and change their minds for up to a month after the birth and adoption of the child, but Lilith’s mother never changed her mind. Suzanne and John were so anxious during those first few weeks with their daughter that they almost lost their minds. They were afraid that any second, someone was going to show up on their doorstep and take their baby away - but no one did.
Lilith remembers nothing of the adoption, because she was only one day old. She always wondered why her mother never came back for her and why her father wasn’t involved. Was there something wrong with her so bad that her parents didn’t want anything to do with her? That couldn’t be the case because her adoptive parents loved her more than anything. She struggled with those thoughts her whole life. She was afraid to ask too much about her biological parents because she was afraid it would hurt her adoptive parents’ feelings somehow, although they were always very open and understanding about the subject. She just went throughout life wondering the same questions about her biological family.
She had a wonderful life, as a child and as a teenager. She was hard on her parents in the fact that she demanded a lot and she gave them a bit of trouble, but they supported her throughout everything. From all the presents on birthdays and holidays, and all the praises she got for her grades and athletic achievements, she was happy.
