The Woman Who Said No Emma had learned one thing about powerful men: never let their money make you forget your own worth. Unfortunately, the man standing in front of her seemed to have forgotten that lesson entirely. Alexander Blackwood stood in the middle of the crowded ballroom, looking as though the entire room had been designed for him. His black suit was perfectly fitted, his dark hair slightly messy in a way that somehow made him look even more attractive, and the expensive watch on his wrist probably cost more than Emma's entire apartment. He was the kind of man women stared at and men carefully avoided. He was also the most arrogant man Emma had ever met. "I don't think you understand who you're talking to," Alexander said, his voice calm but irritatingly confident. Emma folded her arms. "Oh, I understand perfectly." His eyebrow lifted. "You're Alexander Blackwood. Billionaire. Businessman. Spoiled." A few people nearby suddenly became very interested in their champagne glasses. Alexander stared at her. Emma continued, "And apparently, a man who thinks saying please means everyone has to obey him." For the first time that evening, Alexander looked genuinely speechless. "You should be careful," he finally said. "Is that a threat?" "No." "Good. Because I don't scare easily." She turned to walk away. "Emma." She stopped. Alexander's voice had changed. There was something darker in it now. "You just embarrassed me in front of everyone." Emma looked over her shoulder. "No, Alexander. You embarrassed yourself." Then she walked away. Alexander remained frozen, watching her disappear into the crowd. Nobody had ever spoken to him like that. Nobody had ever looked him in the eyes and told him no. And Alexander Blackwood was about to make Emma regret being the first.
