The Billionaire Who Rejected Me
Chapter 1 — The Night He Broke My Heart
The first time Adrian Blackwood broke my heart, he did it in front of two hundred people.
The second time, he would beg me not to leave.
But I didn't know that yet.
That night, all I knew was that I was standing in the middle of Blackwood Hall, holding a small silver box in my trembling hands.
Inside it was the necklace I had spent three months saving for.
It wasn't expensive.
But I had bought it for him because Adrian once told me that his mother had given him a silver necklace when he was a child.
I thought giving him one would make him understand how I felt.
I was wrong.
“Adrian.”
He turned toward me.
The room became strangely quiet.
He stood at the center of the ballroom in a perfectly fitted black suit, surrounded by businessmen, celebrities and wealthy families.
Everyone knew him.
Adrian Blackwood.
Twenty-nine.
Billionaire.
Cold.
Untouchable.
And, unfortunately for me, the man I had secretly loved for three years.
I walked toward him.
My palms were sweating.
“Can I talk to you?”
His eyes moved briefly to the box in my hand.
Then he looked at me.
“What is it?”
I swallowed.
“I wanted to give you something.”
I opened the box.
A silver necklace rested inside.
Someone behind him laughed.
Another person whispered something.
Adrian didn't move.
I forced a smile.
“I know it's not much, but—”
“I don't want it.”
My smile disappeared.
“What?”
He looked directly into my eyes.
“I said I don't want it.”
The room suddenly felt freezing.
I lowered the box.
“Adrian…”
“And there's something else you should understand.”
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
“We were never going to happen.”
My heart stopped.
“What are you saying?”
“I don't love you.”
Those four words destroyed three years of hope.
I could hear people whispering around us.
My eyes burned.
“But you told me—”
“I was being polite.”
A few people laughed.
I felt my face burning.
Adrian stepped closer.
His voice became colder.
“Stop following me. Stop waiting for me. Stop imagining that one day I'll choose you.”
I stared at him.
The man I had defended.
The man I had waited for.
The man I had loved when everyone else called him heartless.
He had just made me feel like I was nothing.
I closed the necklace box.
“Okay.”
He looked surprised.
Maybe he expected me to cry.
Maybe he expected me to beg.
Instead, I smiled.
A broken smile.
“Don't worry, Adrian.”
I placed the box in his hand.
“You won't have to reject me twice.”
Then I walked away.
I didn't look back.
Not even when I heard him say my name.
Not even when the doors closed behind me.
That was the last night I loved Adrian Blackwood.
Or at least…
that's what I believed.
