Chapter 5: A Thorn in the Heart
"Phoebe, what's going on with you?" Eudora Cook was completely baffled.
Phoebe Hamlet suddenly snorted coldly, "Nothing. In short, don't call me anymore. And don't ever mention that you know me!"
"Did something happen to you? Tell me, I'll try to help!" Eudora Cook asked, full of concern.
Phoebe Hamlet immediately grew impatient, "I'm fine, don't get the wrong idea! Also, I won't be returning to the rental place, and I won't be working at that lousy company anymore. That's it, stop calling me, it's annoying. Goodbye!"
*Beep—*
After being told off by Phoebe Hamlet for no apparent reason, Eudora Cook finally remembered the content of the messages she had sent before leaving work today. She smacked her forehead in frustration; she had been so busy with work that she not only forgot things but also tried to warm up to Phoebe Hamlet, who clearly didn't want anything to do with her.
Eudora Cook gave a bitter smile. Was there anyone in this world more unlucky than her? Overnight, she lost her innocence and was cut off by her best friend.
Looking at the small, shabby rental room, Eudora Cook sniffed, feeling a sourness in her nose. No one would be with anyone forever, right?
On the other hand, when Phoebe Hamlet arrived at the Leng Family's mountain villa and saw the golden medals of honor hanging on the walls of the main hall, she could guess the hidden identity of the Young Master.
"Young Master is a soldier?" Phoebe Hamlet couldn't help but ask the butler, with a worried look.
Butler smiled, nodding and then shaking his head. He felt honored to serve as the butler for the Young Master.
However, Phoebe Hamlet looked at him with a frown. If she had known, she wouldn't have impersonated Eudora Cook!
Phoebe Hamlet felt a bit regretful, her eyes dimming.
Butler, seeing through her thoughts, added, "Don't worry, Young Madam. The Young Master will retire this year and enter the business world, taking over the Harrington Corporation from the Old Master!"
"Really?" Phoebe Hamlet's eyes lit up.
Butler gave a dry smile and nodded slightly, wondering to himself why the Young Master would take a liking to such a “practical” woman.
"Young Madam, are you truly willing to follow my Young Master? If you regret it now, it's not too late," Butler reminded her with a smile.
Phoebe Hamlet answered resolutely, "I am determined to stay with him for life!"
"Good! Since Young Madam has made up her mind to marry our Young Master, he said that if you have any requests, I will do my best to fulfill them."
Hearing Butler address her as "Young Madam" repeatedly, Phoebe Hamlet almost laughed out loud. This was exactly the luxurious life she had always dreamed of, but it was originally meant for Eudora Cook...
Thinking of this, Phoebe Hamlet's eyes darkened.
After dinner, Eudora Cook tidied up the kitchen and left the house with her bag. She hadn't had time to go to the supermarket during the day, and the fridge was empty. She planned to buy some fresh fruits from the nearby fruit market to fill it up.
Now that Phoebe Hamlet was gone, every day, she would be coming and going alone in this rental room. Although Eudora Cook felt a bit lonely, life was like this—no play lasts forever. She could still live a fulfilling life on her own.
At the fruit market, Eudora Cook picked out bananas, and apples, and carried the bags to the checkout counter. Just as she was about to pay, a long, slender hand had already handed a fifty-dollar bill to the cashier.
"Here's your change, twenty five dollars. Thank you, and please come again," the female cashier said with a smile, handing the change to the person who paid.
Eudora Cook, stunned, followed the hand and looked up.
"Wow, your boyfriend is so handsome!" the cashier said, smiling at Eudora Cook and then admiring the man beside her.
Indeed, the man was very handsome! His face, like a portrait painted by a court artist, was well-defined and flawless. Dressed in military uniform and boots, he had broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs. He was at least a head and a half taller than Eudora Cook.
"Who...?"
"Come with me!"
Before Eudora Cook could finish her sentence, the man reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her away from the fruit market.
"Who are you? Let me go!"
Eudora Cook, holding a bag of fruits in one hand, tried to free herself from the man's grip, but he kept pulling her forward, making it impossible for her to stop.
Just a day apart, he missed her terribly. Eudora Cook couldn't understand his feelings and even wondered if he was crazy. She didn't know him at all!
The man stopped and turned around, causing Eudora Cook to bump into his chest. As she lifted her head, he leaned down and kissed her.
He was domineering and forceful. His heart beat fiercely, and his breath was rapid, leaving Eudora Cook's mind blank.
This familiar scent...
It was just like the man from last night!
