Chapter Eleven

A few weeks have passed since I started working at the Red Cauldron. Not really the most ideal job, definitely not one I would have applied for but I make good money. I walked around the floor and handed out drinks. My job was essentially a waitress for the customers and dancers. I walked back into the dressing room and to my locker to start my shift. Pulled out my outfit for the night, nothing to fancy just a green crop top with a leather harness, matching shorts and a thick choker to hide my neck. “Hey Blue, ready for the night?” “Hey Chloe, I’m getting there. What about you?” I asked the blonde who just walked through the door. Chloe had an air about her, she’s bubbly and absolutely gorgeous. She always holds herself like she came from a prestigious family and I always wondered how she ended up working here. She heads to her locker and pulls out, what looks like a two piece bathing suit and her six inch heels. I never understood how people could walk in those let alone dance. I look down at my plain converse shoes. “Girl if you just tried to dance or even dress down a little you would make a killing here.” She smiled at me. “It’s a club for shifters after all a little nudity never hurt.” Once she got dressed she headed out the door to start her shift. I adjusted my straps and followed behind her. The music was blaring and all the lights and bodies made the room hot and stuffy. I walked over to the bar to pick up drink orders and my note pad. “Table four, ten, and thirteen Blue. Don’t forget to smile.” Quinn told me from behind the bar. I picked up the heavy tray and started walking. The club was packed tonight, probably for a party. “Here’s your drinks guys.” I said with as much cheer as I could. They smiled and put a tip on the drink tray. ‘Awesome two dollars,’ I internally rolled my eyes. Maybe Chloe was right, dressing the part might help with my money disruption. After running from Ryder and bumping into Quinn and Darling, I’ve started making a new life for myself. Darling got me an affordable apartment not far from the club and a job that pays well to maintain living there. I can’t complain honestly. Some men tend to get handsy at the bar but Quinn is keen on shutting it down in a timely manner. I walk over to my tables one by one and either get new drink orders or to close out their tabs. “Hey guys, you ready for another round?” I ask in my customer service voice. One of the men eyed me up and down but I just kept smiling. “I’d like to go a round with you.” He started laughing. “How much you cost an hour?” He asked while his friends laughed. I kept my smile and my composure but I can feel the slime oozing off the guy from where I stand. “Do you need another minute to think about your drink order, sir.” “No. I asked you a f*****g question. How much do you cost.” I started to walk away but he grabbed the back of my leather harness and pulled me down. I’m now sitting on my hands and knees, eye level with the scum bags crotch. With his hand tightly wrapped in my harness he pulls me closer to him. “I’ll spot you a $50 to suck it.” Tears burning the back of my eyes and a lump caught in my throat, yelling for Quinn would just make me look weak. “I’m only gunna ask you once to let me go sir.” I said in an almost whisper. “Or what?” He chuckled. I can’t really do anything to him honestly. I shut Abby out so Ryder couldn’t find me, so I did the next best thing. I pulled the taser out of my shoe and shocked his inner thigh. The sound of the guys scream must have alerted Quinn because he was standing behind me in no time. “She f**king tased me! You c*nt!” He yelled. He brought his hand back and before I realized what happened all I felt was the sting of being back handed across my cheek. “That’s it get out!” Quinn yelled and picked the guy out of his seat. “Your banned from the club.” As I remain sitting on the floor in mostly pure shock. I start to feel eyes on me, when I look up, all the guys at the table where staring at me with pure hatred. Like I ruined their night. I stood up and walked back into the dressing room with my head down. Grabbed my jacket the. Walked out the back entrance to the smoking area. The newly fallen snow blankets the ground outside of the building. Thankfully the patio area for the staff is heated. I can see Christmas decorations lighting up the streets a few blocks away. I hug myself but not from the cold, the feeling of being a lone starts to eat at me. I have made a few friends working here these last few weeks but I start missing my old life with Matt and Casey. The tears I’ve been holding back silently slip down my face. The door swings open and I don’t even bother turning around. “Hey kiddo are you okay?” Quinn asked with concern in his voice. I nod my head not really willing to talk. “Maybe you should go home for the night. Don’t worry though I’ll leave you clocked in for the rest of your shift.” Quinn walked me back inside and waited for my to change out of my work clothes then walked me across the street to my apartment building. “You gunna be alright to go the rest of the way alone?” He asked. “Yeah I’ll be fine. Thank you Quinn.” I spoke softly but smiled non the less. As I made my way up the stairs and to my door, I noticed a box sitting next to it. It had my name neatly written on the top but no sender. I grabbed the box and took it inside with me. My apartment is still ver bare but I don’t mind, I’m trying to save up as much as I can. I take left overs home from the club and my lunch is free when I’m working. I pick up as many days as I’m allowed to for the over time. I sit the box down on my window seat then head into the kitchen to get a knife. I carefully open the box to find clothes, normal street clothes. I find a note amongst the fabric, Hope these fit ya kiddo, You have been working so hard You deserve something nice. From your adopted dad Quinn. P.s. Darling picked them out. I smile from his note. Over the time I have gotten to know Quinn he has been a fatherly figure in my life. I can always rely on him. I put the box and note down and head to the bathroom to shower. As soon as I feel clean I dry off and put on my night clothes. I snuggle up on my windowsill seat and read the same book I have been trying to get through for a month. My eyes begin to feel heavy and as I rest my head against the window something on the street catches my eye. Three motorcycles are parked at the club the riders are about the same build and still wearing their gear. My body tenses as I squint my eyes to get a better look. When the one in the middle turns and looks directly at my window. I scramble off of my seat and down on the floor. I wait there laying on my stomach counting the seconds. After a few moments I slowly peak out the window again the bikes are still parked but the riders are gone. “Okay calm down.” Telling my self to slow my racing heart. “They couldn’t have seen me.” I quickly walked over to my front door and locked it. Then went to my room and locked that door too. I sat on my bed with my knees to my chest. ‘Maybe I should call Quinn.’ He’ll know what to do and worse case I’ll sleep in Darlings office tonight. I walk back out of my room quietly and to the kitchen where my phone hangs on a wall. I dial the clubs number and wait for anyone to pick up, but it just keeps ringing. I hang up and redial. Nothing. I hear the engines of the bikes start and I practically crawl to the window to look. The men look like they are chatting before they head off, but the same guy in the middle looks back up at my window. He doesn’t do anything but stare, like he can sense I’m here looking back at him. I quickly turn every light in my apartment off and head back to my room turning that light off as well. If there is one thing I’ve learned about being in foster homes it’s you sleep in the least obvious place, so I walk into the spare room locking every door behind me as I go. Dragging my pillow and blanket with me. I open the sliding door to the closet and make myself a little nest. I curl up in the dark and I’m suddenly reminded of all the horrible times I had as a child. Feeling lost and alone I hug myself tightly letting the darkness consume me into sleep.
