Chapter 4

Janes pov "Wait, what? My Uncle?" I was officially confused, I knew he seemed familiar but how was that even possible? I am on the run from my psychotic father and I fall into my uncle's lap. How does something like that even happen? "I bet you're confused. There is a lot to explain; which I will do at the ranch. For right now you need to rest and finish healing." I looked at him suspiciously, "I promise I will tell you everything." He held up his right hand and put his left over his heart.  “I think we should trust him, just a little. He may be telling us the truth and could tell us about her.” Chastity did have a good point there, I can’t believe I am doing this. I sighed and looked into his blue eyes. "Fine, I still don't trust you!" I glared at him. "Just like your mother," he chuckled while shaking his head. "get some sleep Leo will be back here at eight A.M. sharp." he turned and headed back towards the door. I shouted at him, “Wait! Will you tell me about her?” I don’t know what made me do it, the words were out of my mouth before I could stop them. He turned around and looked at me, “I will tell you about her, after you rest up.”  "Why are you working in a human hospital?" He was now walking towards me. “Most humans can’t stand wolves or vampires. So how were you able to get a job here?”  “You are just full of questions tonight, aren’t you?” He said while looking at me in astonishment. "I own it. I am the one they call for strange cases; also half the staff here are rogues that I have taken in. A lot of the staff here doesn’t know about wolves working here. A lot of them are amazing doctors and nurses, some of the staff know and they embrace it. They feel that at some point people and wolves could live in peace.”  I nodded my head trying to take it what he said and think of my next question. "So you're an alpha of a pack? I mean you must be if you could afford to own a hospital." "Not really, everyone just looks up to me and most call me alpha. We could become a pack since I have nearly 200 rogues living on the ranch; and no, the elders have no clue." He quickly added in the last part. Well that’s shocking, they are normally really good about keeping tabs on any large number of rogues in any one spot. Now I have more questions than I have answers for. “How have you been able to keep on the down low for so long without alerting the elders?” He shook his head while chuckling, "Goodnight Jane, you need to rest." He walked out of the room. I could hear his footsteps slowly fade as he walked further away. "Right now I think we could actually trust him." Chastity said with a tone of surprise. "Don’t get your hopes up Chastity, I am still apprehensive. He says he is my uncle, I remember Sean told us that our mother does have a brother. I remember he said that he went off the grid when I was four, he did seem kind of familiar too though.." "Wasn't that after our grandfather died and our father took over? Yes I agree, he does feel familiar, his wolf was pulling to me." "That would be right around the right time, so yes. What do you mean pulling?” I asked her curiously.  "When a wolf meets family for the first time they tend to pull the wolf trying to form a link that the human side doesn’t notice.” she said nonchalantly.  “Oh, really? How many times has that happened?” I asked her, surprised.  “Jane, we need to rest up. Tomorrow could be a good day, or it could be a fight for survival." "You're right, we need to be prepared. We have no idea who he really is as of right now. Thank the Goddess for Sean training us himself.” I thought about Sean, Emily, and Jace. I missed them so much, this is the first time I have had a chance to process what was happening. “That is the good part about having an overprotective adoptive father.” she said and I giggled to myself as I turned over hitting the light button on the remote plunging the room into darkness. “We will see them again Jane, I know we will.”  “I hope so, I don’t know what I will do if something happens to them.” I grabbed the blanket and pulled it up over my head and allowed sleep to settle in. Sean's pov The last few days have been really hard, we fought for a while which was good as it enabled Jane to escape. However we let our guard down, we saw the wolves stopped coming and we started figuring out what the damage was. Then the witch showed up, I think her name was Simone? Or was it Scarlett? I don’t know but she came through and wiped us all off our feet without even breaking a sweat. After two days of interrogating and threatening my family and me she realized that I wasn’t going to say anything. She forced her way into my mind and managed to figure out where Jane was heading. I bet they had gotten there just as she did.  “You need to calm down, our head still hurts.” My wolf said groggily. I was shocked to hear Drake, “Where the hell have you been?” All I got back for a response was a huff. He is definitely not feeling his best, hopefully we can get a stronger scent of Janes soon. Maybe that will help him perk up a bit.  “Leave me be, I am angry and I hurt. I can’t believe she found out where she was heading.” He growled at me, I knew he was upset that she managed to break us but hopefully she was far enough ahead. “Quit sulking, Jane needs our help so let's get a move on.” I quickly mind linked Jace, he is a couple miles ahead of us. “Hey Jace, any luck picking up a strong scent?” "Sorta, I have her scent heading south." I hope they didn't catch up to her! "Dad, her scent continues up to the highway." Well that’s not always good, especially if she was being chased. Humans could see her, the majority of them know we exist now and a werewolf pellet can catch a good price to the right bidder. Especially her pure white coat.  I was in my wolf form slowly making my way towards Jace, I can’t believe she made it to the highway. There is a good chance she got out of here, I looked to my right and noticed a tree with an X in it, a rogue checkpoint. I rolled my eyes and kept moving. "Do you think she managed to hitchhike?" Jace paused for a minute, "wait dad, her scent is getting stronger!" I took off running the best I could, if she was near we needed to find her fast. "I'm on my way, be there in a few minutes." I followed Jaces scent, letting it guide me to his location. Drake has barely spoken to me since the interrogation, her invading our mind took a toll on both of us. I hate myself for her getting into my head and taking the one piece of information I swore would be taken to my grave. Drake is mad that we weren't strong enough to protect her and keep that one piece of information safe. He has always been protective over her. As I neared Jace I caught on to her scent getting stronger then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Her scent changed slightly, it now had a metallic scent to it, blood! I saw Jace and he ran towards me. "Dad she is not on this side we have to cross over, she could be on the other side injured." I nodded my head in agreement, "Keep low and your eyes open, humans in this area are known for taking wolves and selling their fur." We went on our bellies and climbed up the steep embankment with the tall grass. We made sure there were no cars and bolted across the double lane highway. Once we were across we could smell the blood even more. "She must be close." We took off running in the direction but when we got there she wasn't there. I looked up the embankment and noticed the tall grass had been flattened. it started out big then shrunk down until it hit where the pool of dried blood is. "I think she was hit by a car. We aren't that far south of the New Moon Territory. They must have gotten there before her and she fled this way." One of my men said.  "Dad, do you smell that?" That perked my wolf up a bit, another scent. One only I knew, she was found by Leo. I met him multiple times when I would go to give Marcus updates on his niece. He stopped seeing her when she turned four. "I do, I know where she is!" I smiled at the thought that she is safe and sound with her uncle. Marcus' pov I still can't believe my niece landed on our front door step! "I know, it's like fate just dropped her on our doorstep. Well I guess it's more like a hospital bed." My wolf, Dakota, said.  "I remember when her mom told us about her. It's the whole reason we went to medical school out here and then when we met our mate, this ranch was just perfect." I frowned at the memory that pushed us to our new location. Flash back 16 years ago "Marcus I need to talk to you now!" "Okay Sara I will be there in 10 minutes." "NO! We don't have time, you need to listen to me now!" her voice was hoarse and I assumed that was because she was sick, we all knew it. You could see it in her face, the dark circles, pale skin. I know she has had two miscarriages because she is so sick. "You have a niece. Her name is Jane, I left her at a pack in Ontario. She needs to be protected from Rick! She is his daughter! I learned what he did when I was pregnant and on the run. She needs to be protected, Marcus!" Whoa! I was not expecting that bombshell. "Whoa Sara! I think you need some rest!" I said to her softly. "DON'T TALK TO ME LIKE I AM CRAZY! Go to the Red Moon pack and ask the Alpha." Her voice was breaking in and out. This was the first time in over a year she had used her mind link, my head was starting to hurt from her attempted yelling. "Okay, okay Sara I will." I said through the link as I rubbed my ears. "He is coming back, I have to go!" "Wait Sara! What's going on! Who’s coming back." I got nothing in return. "Something isn't right." "I agree, Dakota, we need to find out what's going on." "You know the Red Moon pack isn't that far from a medical school. We could talk to Alpha Jon about leaving to visit it." He said and excitment rushed through me. "You know what? That is an absolutely brilliant idea!" I started walking to the pack house, I walked in and headed straight for the Alphas office. I knocked on the door and didn't have to wait long for a response. "Enter" I walked into the room. The room had photos of the alpha family, pack events of all kinds. There was even a photo of my sister in a white dress next to Rick on the day of her mating ceremony. Even then she looked sick and unhappy. I didn’t notice then that her mark looked black and like it was infected. "Ah Marcus! My best warrior! What can I do for you?" "I have been tossing around the idea of going to medical school. I would like to go to Ontario to look at a school up there. I need your permission to go as well as Permission to go to the Red Moon pack to talk about possible temporary housing or at least use of their woods since their territory is about ten minutes away from the campus." He looked at me like he knew something was up. Finally he dropped his shoulders and put his head in his hands. "I know what this is about, and your secret is safe with me." I felt my jaw drop in shock, "I'm not sure what you're talking about." Jon looked me dead in the eyes, "I know about Jane, I also know how she was conceived and why he did it. I also believe she needs to be kept away from him. It's why I haven't passed the alpha title to him yet. He is a power hungry selfish person who will never be a good Alpha. Just like his mother father." Now I was really confused. "What do you mean why she was conceived?" He took a deep breath. "There is a spell that If an alpha forcefully takes an omega during the full moon they will conceive the strongest alpha of all. That wolf will have abilities beyond what you could imagine. If that wolf is a female she will have ten times that of her male counterparts, one hundred times that of an average alpha." "So my Niece is going to be a badass!" I smiled at him trying to lighten the mood. "That's not it. There is another spell that can only be done on a female. It is a spell that would allow Rick to transfer all her power into himself. In doing so he would kill her." My heart just dropped into my stomach. "Why would he do that? He has a strong pack to back him. What does he need with these powers?" This didn’t make any sense, what is going on here? "I learned after he came back with your sister that he doesn't want one pack; he wants all the packs." He looked upset and broken, I could see how all of this affected him too.  “How can we change this?” I asked as he sat back down in his chair. “I don’t think it will ever be fixed.” He said sadly. End Flashback "Just wait until I tell Liz!" I said as a new wave of excitment filled my chest. "Liz is going to be ecstatic! She has been wanting to meet Jane for a long time!" Dakota added in. "Let’s go home to our beautiful mate!" I said. It wasn’t long before I pulled into the ranch, I got out of the car and instantly a scent caught my nose. A scent of an old friend, I turned around to see who was with him when I spotted Jace, “Well hello Sean, I am guessing you are looking for someone in particular.” His wolf head nodded. “Come on we will get you some food and a room to sleep in, tomorrow Leo is bringing Jane to stay here.” I turned and headed to the house as they followed me. “So she is okay?” He asked quickly, I could tell how tired and worn down he sounded. “Yeah, she is okay. She is resting at the hospital for now. I just want to make sure she is fully rested in a safe area before we bring her back here.” They both sighed in relief. “Thank the goddess she is safe!” Jace said quikcly. I could hear the relief in his voice. “Will you three get in here? I have enough food made for all of you.” I looked up to see my beautiful mate standing in the door way to our house with a grin on her face. “Okay my love, we are on our way.” I ran up to the house and she quickly turned and ran inside. I smiled and thought to myself, she wants me to chace her! I happily obliged and chased her all the way up to our room, the thought of food long gone.
