Chapter Two

I grumbled when the light streamed through my window. Darkness was my friend, a friend chased away every morning by the intrusive rays of the sun. I rolled to the other side hoping to escape the light. To my dismay, a small sliver flowed through the space between my curtains. I threw the blanket aside as I knew the sun had won yet again. I went to the window, I yelled curses at the sun, I wanted it to know my anger about its disruption to my sleep. I finished cursing just as a servant I had seen many times strode across from the servant’s hall. She was about five foot six, and her legs were long, with the perfect amount of definition. Her hips and ass had just enough curve to make any male look twice. Her hourglass figure would be fit for a runway. Her strawberry blonde hair, plump lips, and high cheekbones finished off her appearance. She could be described as a classic beauty. I watched her make her way across as the servant, Mary Ellen, scolded her for something. As they disappeared inside the building, I made a mental note. I would talk to this servant. I had set out my suit before bed last night. I pulled my black pants up. I pulled my button-down shirt over my broad shoulders. As I fixed my cuff, I put on my favorite pair of sapphire cuff links. My tie was perfect as I checked myself in the mirror. I thought about foregoing the jacket today but, I knew it would make me annoyed. I had meetings for most of the morning, followed by a takeover of a foundering company that afternoon. My life was of my own creation. I had agreed to run the company when my father passed away. My mother had passed a year before. I was his only child. It had been my duty to follow in his footsteps from the beginning. My mother would tell me I was the heir to the family fortune. I hadn’t understood it would be a blessing and a curse. The women wanted me, they tried everything to win me. I had fun with some but none of them meant a thing to me. I wanted someone to love me, someone to love me. These women I would meet at events would never be anything more than a fling. You can’t trust a single one. As soon as someone with more money came along, they were gone. My mother and father met at a gala when they were young, and they would joke about it from time to time. My mother would say she was the one to approach him, my father would swear it was the opposite. They had a love like no other. Many women had tried to come between them, but my father was loyal, only having eyes for my mother. I was born from their love. I was told I was the only thing they truly loved. I didn’t really believe that I knew they loved each other. I chuckled at the memories. I put my jacket on, buttoning the buttons, I opened the door to my room. “Ah, Good morning, sir. I trust you slept well?” Evans asked. Evans has been my butler since I was born. He knew me better than I knew myself. “Yes, thank you, Evans. Has the limo arrived?” I knew the answer. “No, sir. It will be arriving at eight-thirty a.m. sharp.” I entered the dining hall. I took my place at the head of the table. My newspaper was placed to my right, my phone on the left. Of course, the table was set appropriately. I picked up the newspaper, and as expected, my picture took up the entire front page. “Sabian Cadell, Still Single.” I flipped to the business section, “Cadell Industries buys out failing business.” I chuckled. Don’t they ever get bored? I put the paper down. Picking up my phone, I dialed my lawyer. It goes to voice mail. Doesn’t anyone get up early anymore? I glanced at my watch, six a.m. It would be two hours before my breakfast would be served. I stood up and head into my office. I turned on my computer and waited while it loaded. I felt restless. I have been feeling that way for a while now. I looked out across the fields, it is truly beautiful here. I sat back in my chair admiring the view from my office. “Sir, would you like me to have your breakfast ready?” Evans stood in the doorway. “No, I will wait. Thank you.” I liked to keep my schedule the same. It made less room for errors. I turned off my computer. I walked out, shutting the door behind me. I went back to the dining hall. I sat down, once again picking up the paper. I read through a couple of articles. I put the paper back on the table as I drummed my fingers against the mahogany. I picked up my phone, dialing the number I had been given. “Hello, Mr. Cadell, what can I do for you?” the sexy voice on the phone asked. “I need to schedule a date for tonight.” I knew I could have any girl I wanted, but then there was a chance of feelings. I didn’t want that. “Well, I have Venus, April, and Vanessa available for tonight.” I thought for a minute. “I will go with April tonight.” “Ok, Sir. Would you like her to be at your office or your estate?” “My estate please, nine p.m. sharp.” “Yes, Mr. Cadell.” I ended the call before I slammed my hand down on the table. “Evans!” “Yes, sir?” he asked, stepping into the room. “I will be having a guest tonight. I will need a cab at eleven p.m. Sharp.” “Yes sir. I will see to it.” He bowed his head as he turned to leave. I went back to the dining room, and picked up my newspaper again; I read through the rest of the sections. Boring. I stepped out, heading towards the kitchen. I heard people talking. “I know, we have to keep her away from him. He will break her,” a woman’s voice said. “Yeah, but we only have so much space. If he really starts to notice her, we may need to send her away. We could say she ran,” a male answered. “I don’t know why anyone cares if he notices her or if he breaks her. Maybe she needs to be broke.” A different female voice said. “Christa, how could you! She has been through so much already.” Who are they talking about? They were walking this way, surely they would see me. I looked around; I grabbed the nob of the closest door. Stepping inside, I realized it was a storage closet. Squeezing my six-foot-five frame inside, I closed the door just as I heard their footsteps. As they walked by, I tried to peek through the c***k in the door. I could see an older woman, a younger woman, and a young man. They were servants here. I had seen them working around the estate. “Well, all I know is I will do my part to keep her away from him. He does not deserve her.” “I would be willing to marry her. That way, she would be a married woman. Surely he would respect that,” the young man said. “If you think that would work, then maybe we should try to convince her, but she probably will say no,” the younger woman said. I listened as their footsteps got further away. I couldn’t hear anymore. I stepped out of my hiding spot. Who were they talking about? It didn’t really matter, I sat back down at the head of the table. A few minutes later, my breakfast was delivered. When I finished, I grabbed my phone and my jacket as I headed out the door. I stepped into my limo. The conversation I overheard kept playing over in my mind. Who was this person they needed to keep away from someone? Who cares, their lives did not affect mine. I sat in silence for the rest of the ride. When we pulled up in front of my building, I could see the security guards readying themselves for my arrival; I am the boss after all. I bought out my first company at the tender age of Seventeen. My empire grew through the years. I was given the title of “World’s Youngest Billionaire,” when I was named the official heir to my father’s business. I hadn’t wanted any of it; I wanted to keep my business. My father had made a deal with me. He would pay for the corporate headquarters to be moved back to my home if I agreed to take my rightful place as the heir to his business too. I had agreed with the condition that he not only pay for the corporate move, but I would be able to continue with my business when I did take over his. It was a tough compromise, but it was one I would not budge on. Of course, this meant I had more duties than your average business tycoon. I had the duties for my family business, but I had the duties to my private cooperation as well. I worked seven days a week for a long time. When I found people I could trust, I handed over some of the responsibilities for my cooperation to them. Of course, I had them sign iron-clad contracts. I walked into the elevator, pushing the button for the 34th floor. I watched as the doors closed. When I finally arrived at my floor, my secretary Alisha greeted me. “Good morning, sir, is there anything I can get you?” Her perfume wafted up making my nose tingle. Her cleavage stuck out more than normal, and her miniskirt barely covered her butt. I wrinkled my nose. “No, thank you. Is my coffee on my desk?” I had to have a cup when I first arrived. “Yes, sir. Also, do you have a message from Miss April? She said she is looking forward to seeing you tonight.” She looked skeptical. Alisha had been trying to screw me since I hired her two years ago. I found it amusing. She was careful with her work and always made sure everything was exactly as I preferred it. I only kept her because she worked hard to keep me comfortable. If it wasn’t for that, I would have fired her. “Thank you.” I walked into my office without another word. I sat down at my desk and started going through the files for the meetings this morning. The first is with my advisors, the next is with my lawyers. There has been talk of a merger between the two businesses I own. It would mean a huge future for both. Then, finally, we have the merchants who need signatures on the updated contracts. I sat back in my chair, folding my hands, I planned the details of the contracts. Once those meetings were over, I would have lunch, then it would be time to sign my buyout contracts. I had been after this company for a long time. My advisors arrived on time. They had charts and projected numbers; the company was doing better financially than it had in the past eight years. We worked on new bylaws and had time to squeeze in the revocation of a bylaw I didn’t like. When my advisors left, my lawyers came in. We discussed the possible merger. It did not come as a surprise; the two companies could easily become one. The merchants came in behind the lawyers. I looked through the contracts, making sure the agreed-upon clauses had been added. Once I was satisfied, I signed my name. Next, the company I wanted.
