In the Wolverine Pack, strength is everything. For the Crown Prince Nicholas, life is a balance between being a fierce commander on the battlefield and a just, beloved leader to his subjects. He is the golden son, the perfect Alpha—except for the empty space beside him where a Luna should be.Natalie was never meant for the life of a shifter. Born without a wolf in a lineage that demanded one, she was a girl living in a world of monsters. To save her from a life of insignificance and pack judgment, her parents chose the ultimate sacrifice: they abandoned their heritage, fleeing into the night to raise Natalie as a human. For years, Natalie has lived a quiet, normal life, believing the world of fur and fang was a closed chapter of her past. But fate doesn't care about borders. Nicholas doesn't care that she can’t shift. He doesn't care that she’s "human." But his pack, his father, and the ancient laws of the Wolverine line might have a different opinion.Nicholas has found his mate, but to keep her, the perfect Prince may have to burn his kingdom to the ground.

The Weight of the Crown
Natalie’s POV The sound of the hunt always found me in my sleep. In the dream, the forest was a blur of silver moonlight and jagged shadows. My lungs burned, each breath a sharp intake of freezing air that tasted like damp earth and terror. I was six years old again, my small hand swallowed by my father’s trembling grip as he hauled me through the thick underbrush. Behind us, the sound echoed—the long, mourning cry of the Wolverine Pack. It wasn’t just a sound; it was a vibration that rattled my teeth and told me exactly how close the monsters were. They weren't just howling at the moon; they were calling for us. “Don't look back, Natalie,” my mother’s voice hissed, her eyes wide with a desperation I didn't yet understand. “Just keep running.” I gasped as a root caught my foot, the world tilting as I tumbled toward the dark soil. The howls grew louder, closer, more hungry— I bolted upright in bed, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs. Silence. I wasn’t in the forest. I was in my small, sun-drenched bedroom in the city. The only sounds were the distant hum of morning traffic and the rhythmic ticking of the clock on my nightstand. There were no wolves here. No Alphas. No shadows with glowing amber eyes. My phone buzzed on the nightstand. 5 Missed Calls: Amber. I groaned and picked up. "Natalie! Finally!" Amber’s voice was high-pitched over the sound of a sizzling grill. "Where are you? The streets are already being cordoned off. The Wolverine Prince is crossing the border this morning!" "I'm coming, Amber," I said, rubbing my eyes. "I didn't think humans cared this much about a diplomatic visit." "Are you kidding? We haven't had a Royal from the Wolverine Country in this city since the Alliance was renewed twenty years ago. And Nicholas? He’s not just a Prince. He’s a hero, Nat. People are lining up just to see his car." "He's just the leader of a different country," I lied, my voice trembling. "He's the future King of the North," she corrected. "Now hurry up! The Patty Shack is going to be underwater with orders by noon." I hung up and caught my reflection. I looked ordinary. There was nothing about me that suggested I was born across the border. I had chosen this life. I had chosen to be a human among humans. Today, Nicholas Wolverine was crossing into our territory for an official visit. He would stay in his armored car, meet our leaders, and return to his kingdom. He would never know that the girl flipping burgers three blocks away was a ghost from his own people. Fate was a choice. And today, I was choosing to be invisible. I scrambled through the shower, pulling on my jeans and a plain t-shirt. I ran through the kitchen, nearly skidding on the linoleum. "Natalie! Slow down!" my mother shouted, her voice trailing after me as I snatched an apple from the counter. Her eyes were wide, that familiar flash of 'Pack-paranoia' ever-present. "Be careful out there today. The borders are open..." "I'm late, Mom! Love you!" I called back, already out the door. I drove my beat-up car down the block, my hands gripping the steering wheel. I parked, shoved my hair into the dreaded Patty Shack cap, and adjusted the brim before sliding behind the counter. Amber beamed at me. "You made it just in time!" She didn't wait for a greeting. She signaled toward the chalkboard. "Specials, Nat. Go! The 'Alpha-stack' is already our best seller." As I scribbled the prices, Amber hovered nearby, her thumb flying across her phone screen. "Look at the Insta-lives, Nat. People have been camped out since six in the morning just to see the royal fleet." She shoved her phone in front of my face, showing me an official photo from the Wolverine Royal Website. "I wonder what he looks like now," Amber mused. "They say he’s grown into a beast on the battlefield. A handsome beast, but still..." I stared at the photo. My heart did a strange, painful flutter. He looks like home, a voice whispered in the back of my mind. I silenced it immediately. Nicholas’s POV The human world. It had been ages since I’d crossed the treaty line, and the transition always grated on my senses. Their houses were cramped, their streets smelled of exhaust, and the very air felt hollow, stripped of the raw magic that hummed through the forests of the North. I sat back in the leather interior of the royal limousine, adjusting the cuffs of my bespoke black three-piece suit. The silk tie felt like a velvet noose, but it was the uniform of diplomacy. To my left, Marcus, my Beta and oldest friend, flipped through a digital tablet. "You have a long day ahead of you, Nicholas," Marcus said, his voice tight. "The President is expecting us in an hour. This isn't a vacation. I don't think you'll have time for sightseeing." I leaned my head back against the seat, closing my eyes. "I’m not looking for a tour, Marcus." The weight of the crown felt heavier today. My father—the Alpha of the North—had been clear: our intelligence had picked up footage of dangerous rogue wolves crossing into the human sector. We needed the human satellite grid to capture their heat signatures before they caused a bloodbath. One wrong move, and the entire world balance is ruined.
