ESTELLE?

°XAVIER° I wasn't sure about visiting a human hospital, but for Leo's sake, I decided to go. To my surprise, I saw a familiar person walking ahead of me. Maybe it's not who I think of, I took it off lightly and went to meet the Dean of the hospital, I decided to meet the doctor he mentioned. On my way to meet that doctor, someone bumped into me, before I could react, she was about to fall while made me to pull her back into my arms. She raised her head to look at me, it's her, I wasn't mistaken, looking at her face, I still can't help but to feel surprised, unintentionally I spelled her name, "Isabella!" It was the first time I had called her name in these five years, she whispered my name, "Xavier" the name from her voice made me to realise it's not a dream but real, I met her for real, a meeting like this I never anticipated, but why do I feel strange when she is closer to me? It never happened before, then what changed now? Immediately, she pushed me away and tried to run, I can say that she is clearly shocked to see me, but why running away as if I'm chasing her? Why can't she wait to hear me? At the same time a woman called out, "Doctor Veronica." Veronica? Why is she calling Isabella as Veronica? Isabella turned around, forcing a smile, the lady looked at me introducing her, "Mr. Rodriguez, this is Doctor Veronica. Please come with me." I followed her, and the lady addressed Isabella, "Doctor Veronica, this is Mr. Rodriguez, the friend of our Dean, he specifically wanted you to handle this appointment." "Umm, I have checkup rounds to do, how about Doctor Clara taking this appointment instead of me?" Isabella laughed nervously, clearly trying to decline, if she isn't that interested why bother of requesting or forcing her, "it's okay, we can meet another doctor." The lady politely smiled at me, "she is our one of the best doctor Mr. Rodriguez, that's why our Dean wanted you to meet her" and she looked at Isabella insisting, "Sorry, Doctor Veronica for not informing you earlier, your rounds this evening were reassigned to Doctor Clara, so this appointment is especially for you only." Isabella smiled painfully as if she is getting forced, "Ah, I see" the lady nodded and looked at me, "she is the doctor assigned for you, please go with her," and she left, that's it? What kind of hospitality is this? I stood there with Audrey, my beta, and Leo, Isabella avoided eye contact with me, but said as if she was speaking with air, "Please follow me," I knew it is awkward, but who on earth she is trying to mistreat? She walked quickly, almost as if she were running a marathon, we hadn't seen each other in five years, and this was how she reacted, as if she witnessed a parasite? I looked at Audrey, "How did she become a doctor?" Audrey replied as usual, "It's been five years since I saw her, just like you, my Lord, I'm curious too" with a sigh I followed her along with Audrey and Leo. Isabella opened the door and led us into her cabin, gesturing for us to sit as she took her seat, finally, she raised her head, still hesitating to look at me, I was about to speak, "Isa," but she cut me off straightly, "Veronica, it's Veronica." "Veronica," I nodded agreeing with her, she responded taking the file, "Yeah, what's your problem?" "What?" I asked, being furious, how dare she talk to me like that? Just because I was being polite, did she think she could say anything? Does she think I'm here for her or what? "Do you even know what you're asking?" She sighed with an annoyed expression, "That's what I ask any patient who comes to me, I'm a doctor, I need to know the problem to diagnose the situation," I smiled awkwardly, realizing I had misunderstood and reacted little extremely, when I looked at Audrey, who gave me the same look as if he is questioning me. "My son," I pointed to Leo, "he's the one who needs treatment, not me." Isabella looked at him calmly and smiled, wait she smiled at him while glared at me, interesting, "Hello dear, I'm Veronica, what's your name?" He lowered his head calmly, I explained, "Leonardo, but he can't speak." "Since when?" she asked curiously, it's painful to talk but I need to, "he has never spoken since he was born." She gave him a sympathetic look and called him gently, "Leo, how about you come over here?" I signaled to Leo, and he walked over to her, when she tried to touch him, just like always he flinched, but she just smiled, lifted him and got him seated in the chair in front of her. She checked his neck closely, "He has allergic rashes, didn't you apply anything? The rash seems to be increasing." "He’s been scratching since morning," Audrey remarked looking at Isabella, "is it because of that only?" Isabella thought for a while before asking, "What did he eat this morning?" "He loves peaches, that's what he eats every morning," I told her looking for a response whereas she sighed at my words, "He's allergic to peaches." What? How could she come to that conclusion when I'm his biological father and I've never noticed this? That's the only thing Leo loves after all, if he is allergic, why would he eat that? She looked at Leo, applying the ointment gently on his neck, "Do you feel itchy whenever you eat peaches?" He nodded looking at her while blinking his eyes, did he ever show this kind of face to me? And here we go she looked at me accusingly, "It's because he's allergic, and none of you noticed it." Audrey and I exchanged confused glances, well we can't argue, she is the doctor, Isabella continued further, "I'll prescribe some medicine and ointment, he'll be fine, just don't give him peaches until he's little older and his resistance improves." "We're not here for that," I said trying to mention the real reason, she looked at me intently, and not wasting the time I got straight to the point, "He is too weak compared to his peers, often falls sick, has nosebleeds, and passes out at least twice a day, I've had him checked by many, but his condition hasn't improved, it only worsened." She checked his body, weight, nails, and eyes, and asked him to open his mouth trying to check, what was she doing? Did she even understand what I was saying? "How old is he?" Isabella asked, maintaing her professionalism. "Four," I responded looking at Leo who has been staring at Isabella. "Malnourished," she took a breath before speaking, looking concerned, "I'm sure his blood levels are low too, probably a vitamin deficiency. Most importantly, he's underweight, that's why he's not developing like other kids his age, the growth in him is very less compared to others." "Malnourished?" I repeated in surprise not understanding what she was trying to talk about. She pressed a button, summoning a nurse, "Take a blood sample from this little boy, I need the results immediately," she instructed with a smile. The nurse returned with a syringe, causing Leo to jump and shake his head in fear. Isabella took him onto her lap, "Don't worry dear, it'll be fine, it's just a tiny prick, like an ant bite," she reassured him, watching her console him reminded me how much she loved children. After the nurse took his blood sample and left, Isabella handed Leo a chocolate while ruffling his hair, "You're such a brave boy, here, have this." "I never expected to see you here as a doctor, dear," Audrey spoke to Isabella, and unlike the way she treated me, she was polite with him, "I never expected it either, good to see you brother." The nurse returned with the test results within a few minutes. After examining them, Isabella handed them to me, "Just as I thought, it's the early stage of anemia, for now, I can prescribe some medicine, but it will depend on how well he takes medicine and follows a nutritious diet." She wrote down some prescriptions and a diet plan, then handed the note to me, "for now, this should be enough, bring him back for a check-up in a week, then we can discuss about speech therapy." Standing up from her chair, she ruffled Leo's hair again, "Let's meet in a week Leo, I want to see you healthy when we meet next time," she said, not even glancing at me. Turning to Audrey rather than me, she said, "Take good care of him." Just then, a little girl came rushing in towards Isabella, "Mommy!" Nearly tripping her leg, Isabella caught her at the right moment, "Estelle!" She called out the name jolting me back to memories of the past. I remembered a conversation between my mother and Isabella, "Bella, you know Xavvy loves the name Estelle a lot, he always wanted a sister, he even picked a name Estelle for her, but unfortunately, I didn't have a daughter, so how about you name your daughter Estelle for me?" "Sure, Mother," Isabella had promised her with a smile. And back to the present now, here she was, calling this child, "Estelle?"
