For some weird reason, it was easier to summon light and fire in the dark. Within seconds, Kath had managed to set the trunk of her tree with blue flames that didn’t burn the tree itself. With an outstretched hand, she kept feeding the flames with her own energy. Her brow was coated with sweat like the rest of her but that did not matter. She was alive still and the wolves had inched away to give her flames a wide berth. Kath would have laughed with glee if this type of wielding of hers didn’t require all her strength and focus. As it was, she could feel herself waning, the flames were beginning to flicker, and it was only a matter of time before her fire of protection died and the wolves would come back again with a vengeance.  She had to move.
