She waited eight days before she called Patricia.
Eight days of teaching and grading and charter expansion meetings and the specific disciplined quiet of someone who has decided to let things move at the right speed rather than the fastest one. She went to school. She had dinner with Nathan. She video-called Aunt Rita on a Thursday evening and listened to forty minutes about the community garden situation in Rita's Dallas neighborhood and it was exactly the right conversation because it had nothing to do with any of this.
