Chapter 1: Sold Like a Commodity
In 2023, in a quiet rural village in England where green fields stretched endlessly, Amelia’s life seemed destined to remain peaceful. But behind the beauty lay a harsh reality: poverty, despair, and the inescapable cycle of hardship. In a small, crumbling house on the edge of the village, Amelia’s parents, Henry and Margaret, made a decision she could never have imagined.
Henry was a middle-aged man whose dreams had long since failed him. Once a hardworking farmer, he had fallen into online gambling. At first, it was small bets that seemed harmless, but the thrill quickly turned into addiction. Each loss only fueled his desperation, as he promised his wife, "Just one more chance, and I’ll turn it all around." But those chances never came. Instead, the debts piled up, and with them, the threats from creditors.
Margaret, once a hopeful and optimistic woman, had grown bitter over the years. She worked tirelessly at a local factory, earning a meager wage, but it was nowhere near enough to cover Henry’s debts. The weight of financial pressure crushed her spirit. When Henry proposed the idea of selling their daughter to pay off the debt, Margaret initially resisted, but her resolve crumbled, and she silently agreed.
Amelia, 18 years old and fresh out of high school, was a bright and hopeful young woman. She dreamed of leaving her small village for the city, where she could attend university and build a better life. But those dreams shattered the moment she learned about her parents’ cruel plan.
"You’re our only way out!"
One afternoon, as Amelia returned home from her part-time job at a local café, she noticed something was wrong. Her parents were speaking with a strange man. He was dressed in a sleek black suit, his face cold and calculating.
“This is the girl,” Henry said, his voice rushed. “She’s obedient and hardworking. You won’t be disappointed.”
“Fifty thousand pounds,” the stranger replied, his voice deep and authoritative. “That’s my final offer. If you don’t agree, I’ll find someone else.”
Amelia froze in the doorway, unable to believe what she was hearing. She stormed into the room, her voice trembling:
“Dad… Mom… What is this?”
Margaret turned away, avoiding her daughter’s eyes, while Henry grabbed Amelia’s arm, pulling her aside.
“You need to understand, Amelia,” he said, his tone desperate but unapologetic. “Our family is on the brink. This is the only way to save us.”
“Save us? By selling me?” Amelia screamed, tears streaming down her face. “I’m not a commodity! How can you do this to me?”
The stranger interrupted, his voice cold:
“We don’t have time for this emotional nonsense. Young lady, if you don’t cooperate, the consequences won’t just fall on your family.”
Amelia felt the world crumble around her. Before she could react, the stranger made a phone call. Within minutes, a sleek black car pulled up outside the house. Two men stepped out, their expressions as cold as their employer’s.
“Take her,” the stranger commanded.
Amelia struggled, screaming, but her parents did nothing to stop them. Margaret averted her eyes, her hands trembling as she held the bag of money the man handed her.
“Amelia, I’m sorry…” Margaret whispered, but the apology meant nothing.
She was shoved into the car, her tear-streaked face pressed against the window. Her parents stood in the doorway, their faces devoid of emotion, as if she had never been a part of their family.
The car sped down the bumpy road, taking Amelia to a place she had never imagined. After an hour, they arrived in London, where the city’s bright lights and looming skyscrapers felt both dazzling and terrifying. The car stopped in front of a grand building, its windows glowing with golden light.
The Secret Auction
Amelia was led into a large room with rows of seats filled with people. They were dressed in luxurious clothing, their eyes scanning her like she was a prize to be won. The auctioneer stepped onto the stage, his voice booming through the microphone:
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special item today. This is Amelia, 18 years old, healthy, intelligent, and easily trainable. Starting bid: thirty thousand pounds!”
Amelia stood frozen on the stage, shame and fear washing over her. The voices began to call out from the crowd:
“Thirty-five thousand!”
“Forty thousand!”
“Fifty thousand!”
She felt like an object, her worth determined by numbers.
Finally, a middle-aged man with an air of authority stood and called out:
“One hundred thousand pounds!”
The room fell silent. The auctioneer banged his gavel, sealing the deal.
“Sold!”
Amelia was dragged off the stage, her body numb with despair. The man who had won the auction approached her, his gaze cold and assessing. He smiled faintly, a chilling expression.
“From now on, you belong to me.”
Though betrayed and sold like a commodity, Amelia vowed to herself that she would not let her life be dictated forever. One day, she would find a way to escape and reclaim her freedom.
