Revenge of the fallen

The attack

A strange sense of fear gave me chills when I saw Shoba looking at me totally expression-less. Screw you Paul.... I didn't expect him to make a mess of such a petty issue. Wait! It wasn't an issue at all, why is he so uptight? I was just kidding!! i***t!!!

"Your shift started five minutes back! I told you I am very particular when it comes to work. Please get ready and I have some guests we need to attend to!" Shoba gave me a piercing look before taking exit. Woah!! I overreacted. Maybe Paul is not so bad after all, he didn't actually create an issue.

I got ready to joined Shoba and Paul. By afternoon, Paul was my best buddy at work. He's funny and with him around, work was more fun though it was exhausting. We had burritos for lunch, Paul made them and it was amazingly delicious. During the lunch break, I got time to check on my phone and there were more than fifty messages  from Lilly.

All messages asking the same question, "How's work? Are you enjoying your first day? Are they nice people? Do you want me to come over?" Lilly cares a lot and she is very protective. "Am fine, see you after shift. XOXO" I replied.

The whole day went busy but Paul was just by my side keeping me entertained while we did all the chores. It was about closing time, Paul offered to walk me to my appartment as it was late. I don't want to be relying on someone else, if I am working here I will have to do late shifts for a month and expecting Paul to accompany me every night won't be nice. I politely declined his offer and he left. Shoba was busy arranging the tables when she asked me to change and leave.

Finally! The first day at work wasn't so bad after all. These people are amazing and Moonlight Coffee Shop is gonna be my home away from home. I was changing when the most intoxicating aroma distracted me. Roses! I love that smell, it was so refreshing and I could close my eyes and feel them! Like roses slipping over my body, the petals touching my skin like soft lips kissing each and every square inch of my body!

"Stop dreaming and get the hell out now!" Shoba was screaming on top of her voice and I was snapped out of my rosy fantasy. I came out and saw Shoba ready to close the cafe, she had that lovely smile again.

"See you tomorrow, Luna" Shoba said. "Capisce!" I gave her my best smile and walked away.

Wait! Why did I say "Capisce" and whom did she call Luna? I was about to start my overthinking process, when I saw someone standing on the subway. Usually, there are people on my street at this time, but strangely today the subway was empty. I saw a figure standing at the third exit of the subway. He was wearing a black hoodie. A man, with a cigar in his mouth, both hands inside his hoodie pockets! It felt like he was staring at me and attentively noticing each step I take, just like a wolf ready to hunt. I could sense that something wasn't right. So, I decided to take the first exit. Soon as I reached the main road, I felt like someone was following me. I stopped and looked behind, the roads were empty and there was a strange silence in the air. Suddenly I realised, how bad the idea of not accepting Paul's offer was. I was terrified, I so wish Paul was here, something is very creepy about this night. I turned back to walk again when suddenly something pounced on me. A dog, but this was a big one and had sharp teeth. It was trying to attack me so vigorously, it caught my arms. I felt like my arms were torn apart. I kicked it using all my strength. It felt like this was the end. I'll be torn to death by a vicious dog, I was extremely scared. I felt like my vision fading and body going limp. The dog tried to attack me again when I saw shadows of two huge dogs running towards me at a lightning speed, I desperately wanted to run away but couldn't even move my legs. I couldn't see clearly but it felt like the huge shadows attacking the dog. Though terrified, I had a very familiar sense of protection now. Everything went blank and all I could see was darkness.
