I examine the Alpha, still with his mouth open. I can swear that he is the stranger from the forest and even so, there is a detail that stands out. His eyes are no longer green like mine, but yellow like any Alphas. But how was that possible? "It was you!" Finally, my exclamation takes everyone by surprise. Everyone except the stranger from the forest looks at me with a smirk. Hell, but how slow I have been! Hadn't Jamison revealed to me that the stranger he had encountered was an Alpha? That explained how an unknown Wolf could be prowling in the Forest, in our lands, without any problem. If he had run that legal scam, then it would make sense that he could come and go as he pleased and Alpha Rogers couldn't do anything about it. Speaking of the devil, the Alpha is looking at me like he wants to skin me alive ... which I don't doubt he wants to and would probably try if there weren't so many people present and my blood didn't ruin his expensive carpet. "Do you know him?" He asks with barely contained anger. I can imagine what he must be thinking, that I have betrayed him, that I have planned it. But despite meeting this Wolf earlier today, I still have no idea who he is or why he would ask for me. "I met Lia a few hours ago when he was patrolling my property." The stranger replied with more than a hint of arrogance. It was clear that he loved the fact that he could rub in her face that this was no longer his land. "Is that why you asked for me?" I ask incredulously, pulling back. The Alpha was about to speak and I interrupted him so he gave me a lethal look, but at this moment my disobedience matters little to me; I'm too confused and disoriented to care about protocol. I just want answers, I want to understand what is happening. I look at him from head to toe. He's not a hairless, decrepit fat man, he must barely be in his early twenties. It is clear that he could have anyone he wanted and surely most of the girls in this institute would throw themselves at his feet ... so why ask for me? He fixed me again on his yellow eyes, how could they have changed color when I was sure that in the forest they had been green like mine? Was I going crazy? "I have my reasons." He answered cryptically, shrugging. "That's not important and I don't have time to discuss trifles." Look at Alpha Rogers. "I trust you have done what I asked?" He smiles soothingly, but I have seen that fake smile many times, in his political speeches, when he promises employees that a salary increase is coming and even his son when he tells him that trust him. He is hiding something from her. "Don't worry, I've taken care of everything" The other Wolf, ignorant of the falsehood, nods pleased. "Wait"  I say looking between the two, unsure of what I want to say but feel that my time is running out and that I'm not ready yet to go and find out what is in store for me. "Why would you ask for a Delta? You could have anyone" "LIA!" The Alpha's scream echoed through the office walls and I flinched at such a din. He had never seen him so furious and if it seemed like he wanted to skin me before, now he seems ready to crucify me and hang me on the wall for all to see. But despite his warning, it seems the damage has already been done. "Delta?" Asked the young Alpha, looking at him with cold eyes Uh oh. Now it starts to make sense. He had asked me why this stranger would take a Delta, a simple servant when he could easily have anyone he wanted. But it made a lot more sense if Rogers had never told her that what he was giving her was a Delta girl, the lowest of the castes. Sure, this stranger may have asked for the best of his women, a high-bred Beta like Candace, someone to add to his harem or whatever he has to show off to others (But why would he ask for a female even? ? Sure he does the same with all the packs, you damn bastard), but ... why would Rogers sacrifice one of his women to this con man when he could give him an insignificant servant instead? A Delta that no one would miss and that could easily be replaced? The Alpha tried to fix things. Raising both hands in a conciliatory gesture, he said "Look, this is not what it seems" "I'm not interested in empty words from him." The Alpha spat out with poison. "I heard what I needed." With two long strides of his long legs, he crossed the room and came to where I was, taking my hands and pulling me to his side. I let out a little cry of pain, both because of the surprise that he grabbed me so suddenly, and because his strong hands, taking mine, had squeezed my palms in pain from the fall I had suffered today in the garden. The Alpha let go of me as if he had hurt himself and with a delicacy that he had not believed possible, he takes my hands again and examines my severed palms. "Who did this to you?" He asks me and his intense eyes lock into mine, causing me to look away. Throughout my life, I have learned that I should never look an Alpha in the eye but that is not the only thing that leads me to avoid his eyes. There is something in his gaze, so deeply intense that it alters me. It is as if he knew me as if just by looking at me he could know something about me that even I did not know myself and that awakened a thousand confused emotions within me. "No one," I say in a low voice, scared and embarrassed at the same time. He makes a sound of disbelief deep in his throat, but it's the truth, or at least most of it. I did fall when Jamison knocked me to the floor during our getaway with Jason, but it's not like he did it on purpose so I'd rather avoid mentioning it. Something tells me that if he did, things would get very ugly. "Oh Lia," says Jamison and I look at him with big eyes, praying that he doesn't say anything. "That was when I stopped you, why didn't you say you were hurt?" The young Alpha doesn't say anything for a moment, but I can feel the air cool around us and his hands stay fixed on mine. I feel the terror rise in me like never before and I lift my face to see it, its yellow eyes fixed and watching Jamison. His face is unreadable but I can't help feeling his anger as if it were my own. "Did you do this to him?" The Alpha asks quietly. His voice is too calm and the hairs on my body stand on end at the threatening note in it. "Yes," Jamison replies, paying no attention to the way the room has quieted down, "I had orders to stop her and ..." The forest stranger drew a gun from his side faster than I could blink and the room became deafening with the roar of two shots. By the time I turned my head to Jamison, he was slumped on the ground.
