A Backfired Revenge

It was raining cats and dogs, i kept running as fast as i could. Sirens of police cars and people shouting behind me made it look like a nightmare. The scenario reminded me of all the action movies that i had watched till that doomsday. Jumping over the fences and crawling under the bushes, i finally made it to the highway and got in my friend's car. It all started with a nondescript monday morning as i walked down the street to reach my office. The palm trees swayed in the fresh breeze of summer. "Good morning mate" said my colleague. My phone rang before i could answer my colleague's greetings and it was John calling. Before moving on, john was my ex friend who had borrowed 500 bucks from me 2 years ago which he could not return. John was a short tempered spoiled brat who did not care for others even in the hardest of times. "Why is he calling me now" i asked myself. I attained his call as i was amid a financial crisis and needed my money back. "Come to my rooftop at night, if you need your money back" john said and hung up. I doubted his behaviour but it seemed the only way i could have retained my money. I was back from the office and it was about to be dark outside. I had to make a decision, a tough one. Eventually, i decided to give it a try and perhaps talk him out of this problem. Just in case, i had asked my other friend to wait for me at the highway as i knew john would most probably try something out of the box or might try to hurt me to satisfy his ego. The weather began to change dramatically, dark grey clouds rolled in from the west and it started to rain heavily. Meanwhile, i reached the rooftop of his apartment and saw him standing with his back to me. He wore a long black leather jacket and a watch cap, his sharp eyebrows had haunted me from the early days. "Umm... hi" i said nervously. "Welcome my friend, welcome to the ring of fire" he replied sarcastically. I knew staright away he was up to something, before i could say anything he pulled out a pistol and pointed the deadly muzzle towards me. My heart was pounding against my rib cage, i got confused and jumped on him unexpectedly. Regardless of my actions, he fired the bullet and it brushed my shoulder. We got involved into a fist fight, neighbours came out on their rooftops upon hearing the gunshot and stood there as if they were the audience enjoying the fight. "I ain't giving you a single penny, clown" john shouted angrily. I pushed him against the rooftop's boundary and punched him in the face several times. He was all flared up and i could not endure his furious face expressions so i pushed him with all my strength which made him flip over and fall off the rooftop. I heard a thud after a pause of estimately 3 seconds. I knew he won't survive that and correspondingly i decided to make a run. The neighbours had called the cops on me for obvious reasons. "Are you good?" My friend asked me anxiously. "Just drive and take me away from this city" i replied while panting. Police sirens faded away as we got to the outskirts of the city. I calmed down and told my friend all that went on back there and all he could do was to nod in disgust.
