Chapter one: The wedding day
Emma stood in front of the mirror, her eyes fixed on her reflection. Her wedding dress, a beautiful lace gown, hugged her curves perfectly. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and her makeup was subtle yet elegant. She looked like a perfect bride. But as she gazed deeper into her own eyes, Emma saw a flicker of uncertainty. Doubts had been creeping in for weeks, but she had pushed them aside, convincing herself that she was making the right decision. "Emma, it's time," her mother called from outside the door. Emma took a deep breath, smoothing out her dress. She opened the door to find her mother, father, and Rachel, her maid of honor, waiting for her. "You look stunning, sweetie," her mother said, tears welling up in her eyes. Emma forced a smile, feeling a lump form in her throat. "Thanks, Mom." As they made their way to the ceremony, Emma's heart raced with anticipation. She had always dreamed of this moment, but now that it was here, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. The ceremony venue was packed with friends and family, all chatting and laughing. Emma's eyes scanned the crowd, searching for Jack. He was already standing at the altar, looking handsome in his tailored tuxedo. Their eyes met, and he smiled, but Emma's heart didn't skip a beat. Instead, she felt a pang of anxiety. The ceremony began, and Emma's parents took their seats. Rachel handed Emma her bouquet, and Emma's hands trembled slightly as she took it. The minister started speaking, but Emma's mind began to wander. She thought about all the reasons she had agreed to marry Jack. He was charming, successful, and came from a good family. But as she looked at him now, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was making a mistake. Just as the minister asked Emma to repeat her vows, a commotion broke out at the back of the venue. Emma's eyes darted towards the noise, and her heart sank. Jack's face had turned white, and he looked like he had seen a ghost. He took a step back, his eyes fixed on something or someone behind Emma. Suddenly, Jack turned and walked away, leaving Emma standing alone at the altar. The room erupted into chaos, with gasps and whispers filling the air. Emma's eyes met Rachel's, and she saw a mixture of shock and concern. "What just happened?" Emma whispered, feeling like she was in a nightmare. Rachel shook her head. "I don't know, but I think we're about to find out." Emma's parents rushed to her side, trying to comfort her. But Emma just stood there, frozen in shock, as the reality of the situation sunk in. She had been left at the altar, and she had no idea why. As the guests began to murmur and speculate, Emma felt her world spinning out of control. She had thought she was ready for marriage, but now she was left wondering if she had ever really known Jack at all. The ceremony venue, once filled with joy and anticipation, was now a scene of chaos and confusion. Emma's heart was racing, and her mind was reeling. She had no idea what the future held, but she knew one thing for sure: her life would never be the same again. As Emma stood there, trying to process what had just happened, she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. The room began to spin, and she stumbled backwards, her bouquet falling to the floor. Rachel rushed to her side, catching her by the elbow. "Emma, are you okay?" Emma shook her head, feeling a cold sweat break out on her forehead. "I...I don't know." Suddenly, Emma's legs gave out beneath her, and she collapsed to the floor. The last thing she remembered was Rachel's voice, calling out for someone to fetch a doctor. When Emma came to, she was lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by the beeping of machines and the sterile smell of antiseptic. Rachel was sitting beside her, holding her hand. "Emma, can you hear me?" Rachel asked, her voice soft and gentle. Emma nodded, trying to sit up. But a wave of pain washed over her, and she fell back against the pillows. "What...what happened?" Emma asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Rachel's eyes filled with tears. "You fainted at the ceremony. The doctor says you're going to be okay, but you need to rest." Emma's eyes widened as the events of the day came flooding back. Jack had left her at the altar, and she had collapsed from shock. But as she lay there, trying to process everything that had happened, Emma realized that something was off. Her body felt...different. And then it hit her - she was late. Her period was
