Chapter one: fired
Fired?!” I cried.
My eyes darted from left to right as i searched for answers while i read through the sack letter Bianca handed me.
“Everyone saw it coming except you, Natalie.” Said Bianca.
“And thankfully actions have repercussions.” she narrowed her eyes, muttering nothings while her fingers typed away furiously.
Her bun stretched so tight, the thinness of her scalp shone.
Bianca turned again from her seat.
“And i mean everyone, saw your downfall coming.”
“No, no, this can not be happening.” My voice began to tremble.
I held on to the hem of my shirt as i struggled to grasp for air.
“Excuse me madam.” Said a young man carrying boxes out of my office.
“You cant be moving my things out already!.” I whined once again, as i watched him bump my things into the wall.
My heart began to race.
I reached for the sack letter again without uttering another word, my mouth hung open.
Not only did the atmosphere feel hot, the note felt hot.
“Bianca…please.” I shut my eyes tight as my croaky voice trailed off.
Giving the paper a good squeeze. I pursed my lip.
“You can't sit back and do nothing?” I pleaded with her.
“Natalie,” Bianca chuckled. “Look around you,” she pointed.
“Cant you see you are no longer welcome here.”
My palms were tightly fisted and i felt everyones eyes piercing into my skin.
“Excuse me madame.” The young man repeated. Heavily burdened by my boxes he carried.
“Take them back.” I said softly. With a hint of authority.
The young man stood on his spot as he brows furrowed at my audacity.
Bianca took off her glasses and you could hear the sound of her heels echo across the room as she walked furiously to where i stood.
“Natalie, …” she paused.
“What exactly do you think you are doing.?” Asked Bianca.
“Give me one last chance Bianca.,” i said in between breaths.
As i drew nearer, i took in a deep breath.
“We used to be friends Bianca,
And With everything going on with me right now,” i said taking in another deep breath. .
“ my image, …” my voice lowered.
“The …the scandal” I swallowed.
I pursed my lip as i looked away. Fighting back the tears that threatened to spill.
My eyes glazed with despair.
“I can not afford to lose my job too.” I said pleadingly.
But she uttered no words in response. As she stared blankly.
“Bianca?” I called.
“Oh,…”
“Oh, I'm sorry what was that you were saying.” she asked, batting her lashes falsely.
“Bianca don't do this …” my voiced trailed off.
“Oh and that young man out there will see you out of the office.” She said as she swayed her hips back to her desk. She tucked her self in and picked up the telecom.
I gritted my teeth.
This little wench!
I Stared deep at the opened door to my office. my chair rotated in circular motions as the young man struggled to move other items.
With the few belongings i owned, i slightly wondered why it took him so long to pack.
Then, a book fell out of the table.
My journal.
It had the “ i love my life.” Print on it.
How ironic. I thought.
“Please be careful!” I said. The strain in my voice hinted a sign of approaching tears and God forbid i allowed Bianca see me cry.
“I need a collation of our top list and available clients over the past five years.” Have it forwarded to my email. ” Andersons baritone resounded as he stepped into the reception in a tailored million dollar fitted suit.
His arms bulged out of the the shirt he had on and was neatly tucked into the trousers.
the silky hair on his wrists faded out like a fine painting.
“Natalie?…” Anderson called. Tilting his head slightly.
My breath hitched.
I blinked multiple times as my palms grew sweaty immediately.
“I….” I opened my mouth to say something.
“I…um…..I….” I stuttered.
“Natalie…” he shook his head again slightly.
“What are you still doing here?” He asked. His green eyes staring directly into mine.
My eyes widened as i felt my heart drop to my stomach.
“Mr Anderson, i can fix this.”
“Look Natalie,” “ ill be back here in a few minutes. Make sure there are no traces of you when i get here again.” He double tapped the desk as he spoke.
“Oh and ill make sure of that Mr Anderson.” Said Bianca as she stood up from her chair and headed to the desk where the young man packed my things.
My fisted palms dug into my flesh as she walked past me.
“Ive got that. Thanks.” I said to her.
Taking the box from the desk, i turned to take my leave.
Tears blurred my vision as i walked past the hallway leading to the exit.
My emotions stirred even deeper with every step i took. i reached for my keys hurriedly but they weren't there.
Drops of tears had began to tickle gradually as i searched desperately for them.
“Hey!” “Nat!” hailed Asher who was out of breath from running to catch up with me.
I quickly wiped my tears with the back of my palm as he approached.
“ Natalie,…” he paused, breathing erratically.
“I couldn't let you leave without saying goodbye.” He said.
He stared at my eyes deeply, scanning through my swollen eyes and lips.
“Oh nat,” he said gloomily.
“I don't know how it happened Asher.” I said with my croaked voice.
“Shh.” He Whispered. Pressing my teary face into his chest.
“I should be the one crying, it would be so lonely here without you.”
I managed to escape a chuckle out of my lips.
“So what next.?” He asked.
I averted my eyes. And shook my head.
My knees grew weak and my hands immediately flung to cover my face as tears poured out uncontrollably.
“I don't know why Anderson hates me so much.” I purred.
“I tried all i could to please him , but nothing i ever do is good enough.”
“But maybe thats how rich spoiled kids are.” I said sniffing in.
I held on to Asher so tight, soaking his tee shirt with my tears.
something about the way he stroked my hair was so soothing and made everything okay.
But like an introduction, A cologne which filled the air before its faint footsteps approached.
I gulped.
Only one person had that signature cologne.
“Do you want to know why i hate you so much Natalie?” Andersons baritone voice filled the air.
“stiff and firm, like he always made me feel.
